    Cooling towers are devices used to transfer heat or cool water for reuse. The basic operation is fairly simple. Hot water is pumped in from an outside source and sprayed into the tower. The hot water flows over what is called the fill. This spreads the water over a larger surface to allow for more. Cool air flows over the fill which transfers more heat through evaporation. The heat exits the tower, and the now cooler water gathers in the basin. This cooler water is then pumped back into the system to be used again.

    The term sensible is defined incorrectly. Sensible heat refers to the heat loss or gain between two temperatures, but the absolute moisture content stays constant. (Janis & Tao, Mechanical and Electrical Systems in Buildings 5th Edition, Pearson 2014) Also, the part after on evaporation is a bit confused.

      I don't understand which component is evaporated, is it the hot water (How hot water is evaporated through contact with cold air ?), or it's the moisture in the air ?
      Could you please explain it to me ?

  • @ackotele-radiochannel7408

    All these are would be large wind turbine engines that cool the water down and take the heat out. These are also what they use to generate wind flow for ski diving trainers but inside a tunnel.

    Where does the water come from for this process? I think it just said “outside source” but what “outside source” is usually used? Just curious.

    • @Zendreax
      @Zendreax Před 5 lety

      It can be a variety of different sources.
      Most plants use nearby bodies of water. There's a reason why so many chemical plants are located along a river, because of access to water. Water is taken into a channel or canal that goes through the plant and then filtered and treated before it is introduced to the cooling tower basin.

      @charlesgault3777 Před 4 lety

      It could be steam from a power plant. Most power plants burn coal, oil, or nuclear fuel to turn water into steam, which is used to make electricity.

    Totally irrelevant and perhaps disingenuous use of wind turbine imagery. Cooling towers are about discarding energy while wind turbines are about generating it.
