    CTX 3030 with the 17" coil is still my go-to beach detector. I own all of the above mentioned detectors + more (Deus 2, Legend, Manticore, Equinox 800, CZ21, Sovereign GT, TDI, Minelab PI (modded F1a4), Infinium, Vanquish 540, Garrett Axiom (Sold) and the CTX). Nothing comes close to the target ID accuracy of the CTX (Deus 2 is only thing that is close), and the CTX Depth beats everything else that isn't a PI. I think the CTX's biggest flaw, is including auto sensitivity, which everyone uses as a crutch... turn it to manual sensitivity and crank it to just under where the falsing drives you crazy, it hits stupid deep targets. For the record, I've found 19 gold so far this year, 15 with the CTX, 3 with the Deus 2, and 1 with the Manticore.
    Target ID accuracy is a huge deal that people seem to gloss over. If you knew how many "Iron" targets that you hear with the NOX/Manticore, that are actually gold, and you keep walking because the machine lied to you, your jaw would drop. Dig some of those -1 to -3 "Iron" targets with the NOX, you will be surprised (and frustrated) at how many of them are not Iron.

      I would argue that there is no such thing as target ID accuracy. It sure helps inference, but check out the segment at 4:29 of this video: czcams.com/video/x912T3w1ZUI/video.html

      @@MetalDetectingNYC It's not as much about what the number is on the conductivity scale, it's the ferrous vs non-ferrous accuracy that is lacking in most of the current flavor of the month detectors. Next time you go to the beach with any metal detector, open up those lower "Iron" numbers, such as -1 to -3 on the NOX, or on the Manticore, targets that are reading as iron (top or bottom of screen) on the 2D screen but have a low target ID number. You will be surprised how many are actually good targets. I do this with every machine, and the CTX is the only one that didn't falter on these target, with the Deus 2 a close second.

    I have the Equinox 600 and the Legend. Both work well in the beach water. I’ve learned to take great care of the Nox., since I’ve drowned mine once, broke the ears on the 11 inch coil twice and broken the arm cuff twice, on which it now has a Detect Ed arm cuff on it. (Best investment I’ve made on the detector.) It’s still going strong, but it will be replaced by the Nox 700, when it fails completely. It’s been good to me though. I found a $10,000 white gold Neal Lane Diamond ring with it, a few months ago along with many other goodies throughout the years I’ve had it. Great video Merrill. Happy Digz. _/ 👍

    Regarding Vanquish, two things. You can submerge the coil, just not the control box. And there is a 3rd-part rechargeable battery pack for the Vanquish series so you just plug it in like a Nox. I use the Vanquish 440 and my Nox 600 interchangeably and don't ever notice that the Vanquish is slower. That's just me, though....I'm old so probably don't notice small differences.

    Today was my first real go at detecting, only third day running a detector ever, and I found a 1887 Seated Liberty Dime in amazing shape. I am addicted to hunting now!
    Weather permitting I will be hunting the yard again tomorrow. The detector is a Garrette ACE 300, nowhere near as good as the stuff you uses but I am having fun for sure.

    I had probably one of the worst days of my life detecting at the beach with my nox 900.. I think a lot of it has to do with the beach being sanded in heavily. Have you ever gone on a beach hunt and got completely skunked? I came home with 26 Cents in clad LOL probably my most unproductive 3-hour Beach hunt since I've started. I have been looking into getting the Nokta Legend as my next machine for my beach hunting Arsenal. I have been doing a lot of due diligence watching CZcams between watching your videos I have also been watching the gentleman from Virginia the gig master. He has a few of the top detectors in his Arsenal but he seems to use the legend more often I see a lot of people using it lately here at the beach where I live, and they can't say enough good things about it. You definitely cannot beat the price for the features that it has.

    • @MetalDetectingNYC
      @MetalDetectingNYC  Před rokem +1

      Gigmaster is the G.O.A.T. to me. But I am curious (I don't know the answer to this); could he get a salary from Nokta. He owns the Deus 2 and the Equinox but he has gone exclusive with the Legend. Personally, I think you got the good stuff with the 900. The Legend is the best value but in my opinion it is NOT an upgrade over the Equinox 900. Look at the last livestream I did. I got skunked! It happens to me a lot. It happens to ANYBODY a lot. Its beach conditions and the amount of detectorists on a given beach divided by drops.

    • @landsharktreasure
      @landsharktreasure Před rokem +1

      @MetalDetectingNYC oh absolutely! I was kind of wondering that myself about him possibly being sponsored by them. I love the gigmasters vids! I absolutely love my 900! There is no doubt about it. It's fantastic at finding rings in the wet sand. I would definitely have to concur with your analogy of Excaliber II. There are die-hard fans of that machine that absolutely will not give it up for any new technology out there today. Sean, from Detect Florida, was using an excaliber II exclusively until he got sponsored and now uses the Manticore exclusively in his videos. My interest in the legend is more less geared to having a backup machine in case God forbid, anything goes wrong with my 900. 🙂

      I’m good friends with Gig and can confirm he uses the Nokta because it’s has not been shown to leak , he stopped using the D2 because of the wire issues and coil charging issues . I did a side by side test in the wet sand at the surf break ( so it was really wet sand ) with a 2 gram 14kt ring my 600 vs the XTP and it hit it better at ten inches deep and it runs just as quiet at the Nox in the water , you have to run the sens at 16 where as in a nox you probably run 20 in water but I think it’s just a difference of the machines increments .

Yesterday on a group dig I was on maximum depth settings but could tell from the finds that the ML were getting older stuff. Older equals deeper on that pasture! The ML maybe were an inch or two deeper! In the UK that is the difference between getting modern or old artefacts on undisturbed pasture! On the beach I prefer the D2. On plowed land any detector will work but the Deus’s work very well! So depth is only important on unplowed land!

  • @jeanponce2017
    @jeanponce2017 Před rokem +1

    Merrill not to be funny or sound like a wise guy but that pulse inductor you used was just a waist of your time. My Surf Pro PI is 20 years old and with a 950 coil I would run it up against every one. Multi Frequency may have made these VFL's stable enough to hunt salt with black sand but they can't touch the pulse inductors. It will pull up earrings and parts of chains that those VLF's won't hit unless it's on the surface. What is forgotten is that a pulse induction doesn't need to be ground balances and it doesn't have to trac from sand to gravel to black sand or go in and out of the water during the same swing. It there's not too much iron in the area I will just dig it because it won't miss those little rings in the surf line or under black sand or what ever the situation is. The PI you used if I remember right had way to big of a coil. That detector was designed to locate deep nuggets on land in Australia or around quartz fields.
    If it's heavy iron then I would have to give it to Minelab only because I haven't run a Deus II yet to know or learn it. Same with the Legend although a live hunter in England is crushing the salt water with a Legend. I'm hoping on the Deus II truthfully but the antenna deal is my only pet peeve about the Deus II.
    I have the Fisher CZ-21 and it's a damn good salt water detector. But it weighs a ton so I hip mount it but the ID is done by turning a knob not a screen so it's out dated and still didn't out shoot the PI.
    But bottom line you can find rings with many detectors. Then as you mentioned in the end the Excalibur is still a deadly current competitor with the CZ-21 or pulse inductors for those who dive being their built like a tank and can take extreme pressure from depth and it isn't gonna leak like too many other Minelabs did.
    When you mention detectors using 20 year old technology I can tell you these current machines all use that same technology but set it up with a different platform and they just make it user friendly so someone can't tweek the setting and can't hit a 5 inch quarter lol. Today's detectors are detector for dummy's 101 lol. I don't really mean that specifically for everybody but 20 years ago isn't that long ago when you think about detectors operated since the '30's and got good in the '50's. IMO today's machines should give us a sonogram picture of what's under the coil being they had all this infor for decades. Bottom line it's still power in a coil inducing an electromagnetic field then it reads it's phase response with a few things hear and there? I want to see a 3 D capable visual screen in real time with all metal targets high lighted color. I'd pay $5 grand for a detector to do that displaying 12 inches wide under the ground. They can look in my body and see bone chips in real time or watch blood cells flow through veins. Now to me that's new detecting technology for a modern metal detector

    I've recommended the Vanquish to a couple people as a starter / beach detector. Merrill keep your ears open for reports of the Manticore leaking. I've come across a couple stories of flooded Manticores. A story or two isn't enough to say it's actually a problem, but if it's a trend ... yikes. Yes, I'm a fan of the Apex on the beach, but of course you are bang on in your assessment of it. :)

      The Minelab Manticore is much more than a 2D display. There are so many more features that improve your search for treasure. If you know a person who is truly knowledgeable about the Manticore take the time to talk to him or her. The key word is knowledgeable. Happy Hunting my friend👍

    • @MetalDetectingNYC
      @MetalDetectingNYC  Před rokem

      @@metaldetectingbrooklyn9896 I respectfully disagree. The audio options are a step up from the Equinox. More power works great in areas where there is EMI. The higher sensitivity levels are tough to stabilize after 26. There is marginally more depth and more separation. The ferrous target ID's are great in addition to the non ferrous scale. It is better than the Equinox on bottle caps. Target trace is as reliable as the XY screen on the Deus 2 (not reliable). Aside from program, recovery speed, sensitivity, ground balance and how you notch (I don't) there is no magic combination that makes a world of difference beyond the regular programs. The bottom line is you have to swing over it. Please elaborate on the "many more features" i'm missing here. All in all it is a more capable detector than the equinox series, but I don't see 1000 dollars more value than an Equinox 600.

    Those new 3d printed remote control boxes (left or right handed) they are selling now solve the upper portion of the D2 wire breaking problem. The remote will probably never slip off either due to the design of this box. Detectingdoodads makes the ultimate COIL charger for the D2 with a meter that ensures it is connected properly. YES XP needs to make a better WAVE Guide (the wire that allows underwater use). The WAVE GUIDE should be shorter, more-durable, black colored, able to run inside the shaft easily, and should attach better to the coil/remote control. Hopefully XP is researching a way to do away with the WAVE GUIDE. This could be theoretically done using modern material science albeit at a cost to the consumer (but for a $1,500 machine it should not have this problem)! At least you can update the firmware now with an Apple Computer! Great review!

    Merrill,
    I wanted to add some information regarding the Equinox 800. I bought mine when they first came out. I used it for 5 years and was out of warranty. Recently I was water hunting and it flooded. I contacted Ian at Minelab North America and he gave me a RMA # to send it in. Two weeks later the unit was replaced for $349.00 with a brand new one, with a 3 year warranty. I could have bought any machine but the Nox 800 is still # 1 imo! I would have bought the Nox 900 or manicore if they had the 50 tones. I like the extra features these machines have but I am hearing CZcamsrs grumbling about missing the 800 and it's fabulous tones. I find too much gold to want to change from the 800. Please update your information to reflect that Minelab is standing behind the Nox 800 and don't be afraid to dunk it in the water. They did right by me.

    I would say that the Bounty Hunter Tracker 4 is great on the Sandy Ocean Beach. I also have dug with it in the wet. I know it is not a Multi detector like the ones you have in the list. But I would never knock the TK4. I am really liking the 700 on the beach. hits deep. Man I like how you break down things for people to understand. I bought many detectors cause it said Beach on the box. Totally miss leading. So Now I swing the Minelab detectors. Can not go Wrong. Yes - running a single freq metal detector on the beach was always a compromise-most had to turn down sensitive and add some noise suppression - which resulted in minimal depth. So to my surprise the Xterra Pro is showing lots of Depth and minimal noise even in surf. I wonder if the beach mode which says it is running 8 kHz is in fact mixing two frequencies so working as a multi frequency aka CZ21 which uses 5 kHz and 15 kHz both frequencies are built into the Xterra Pro - thoughts and maybe some nyc beach side by side comparisons?

    I asked Bard AI and it came through. Here's the response.
    The best metal detector for saltwater beaches is a pulse induction (PI) detector. PI detectors are not affected by the minerals in saltwater, which makes them ideal for detecting targets in this environment. Some of the best PI detectors for saltwater beaches include: Simplex, Legend AT Max, Deus II and 800

    • @stinkasscat
      @stinkasscat Před rokem

      800 is not a PI detector, but you are correct that they are the best for salt water. The legend treasure hunters of Florida treasure coast all used PI machines. Gary Drayton did also and I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing. 👍 You're spot on my friend with PIs
