    I used a Note 5 until December 2023. That's 8 years of use. What stops me from getting a used Note 20 Ultra and use it until it's 8 years old? A phone isn't worthless just because you are a few Android versions behind. I love the design of the Note 20 more than it's successors and I'll probably get one soon.

      Yep, it's all about pushing the newest product to make even more money. The note 20 ultra is an awesome phone. It's not much different then the new s24 phones. Plus it's one of the best displays you can find on a phone. I'd rather pay $350 for a phone then pay $1,500.

    Still using my Note 20 Ultra 5g Verizon variant and thankfully I managed to root it thanks to the community on xda😊. Beast of a phone with Magisk and LSposed installed and grabbing a plethora of endless modules to make the experience even easier and better. I wouldn't trade this phone for nothing. Did I mention it has an SD card slot? I needs me SD card slot. Cheers 🍻
    Edit: The vast majority of non tech enthusiasts and non tech savy peoples wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Android 10, Android 11, Android 12, Android 13 and the upcoming Android 14. Let alone the UI versions. People's needs are to be able to make phone calls, texting, whatsapp and CZcams and take pictures and record videos. That sums up the population in a nutshell.
    Edit: My Note 8 Verizon variant rooted and modded as well held up spectacularly until I got my Note 20 Ultra in 2021 😊🎉

      What's rooting for?

    • @ElMalito187
      @ElMalito187 Před 3 měsíci +4

      @@SleepyDogg Rooting is the process by which users of Android devices can attain privileged control (known as root access) over various subsystems of the device, usually smartphones. Because Android is based on a modified version of the Linux kernel, rooting an Android device gives similar access to administrative (superuser) permissions as on Linux or any other Unix-like operating system such as FreeBSD or macOS.
      Rooting is often performed to overcome limitations that carriers and hardware manufacturers put on some devices. Thus, rooting gives the ability (or permission) to alter or replace system applications and settings, run specialized applications ("apps") that require administrator-level permissions, or perform other operations that are otherwise inaccessible to a normal Android user. On some devices, rooting can also facilitate the complete removal and replacement of the device's operating system, usually with a more recent release of its current operating system.
      Root access is sometimes compared to jailbreaking devices running the Apple iOS operating system. However, these are different concepts: Jailbreaking is the bypass of several types of Apple prohibitions for the end user, including modifying the operating system (enforced by a "locked bootloader"), installing non-officially approved (not available on the App Store) applications via sideloading, and granting the user elevated administration-level privileges (rooting). Many vendors such as HTC, Sony, OnePlus, Asus, Xiaomi, and Google explicitly provide the ability to unlock devices, and even replace the operating system entirely.[1][2][3][4] Similarly, the ability to sideload applications is typically permissible on Android devices without root permissions. Thus, it is primarily the third aspect of iOS jailbreaking (giving users administrative privileges) that most directly correlates to Android rooting.
      Rooting is distinct from SIM unlocking and bootloader unlocking. The former allows removing the SIM card lock on a phone, while the latter allows rewriting the phone's boot partition (for example, to install or replace the operating system).

    • @SleepyDogg
      @SleepyDogg Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@ElMalito187 is that what you use it for? I'm still not convinced to do it because I feel like I can do most those things without root.

    • @ElMalito187
      @ElMalito187 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @SleepyDogg "To each is their own". Certains functions of the Samsung ecosystem will be rendered unusable. However their are ways around it and making it work however on my end of the spectrum I'm doing absolutely just fine with the Google ecosystem of things. Plus you need to be on a certain version of firmware to get Root up and running. Samsung has made it quite difficult to root Samsung phones year after year because just as Apple, they want a closed system, i.e. control of services, free and paid. Samsung has taken notes from the XDA community and so has Google. By slowly adding certain features that was only possible with rootes devices. These two major companies are fully aware of modding community and the amount of dedicated work they've brought to the table.
      Edit: The modding community took note of the difficulty of getting rooted so in hindsight the developers are now working inside the locked sandbox of Samsung and making rooted apps and features work without rooting your phone. Pretty neat to say the least.

    Updates just ended this year for this phone. I use Note 20 ultra as my back up phone. And yes, camera quality is still phenomenal, but of course not as great as my S23 ultra due to that added AI processing feature it has through a recent Onu UI update. Overall, Note20 ultra still packs a punch and I never experienced lagging or that green line on the screen that I heard others have experienced. I upgraded my Note 9 (current backup) to the N20U in 2023. I paid around $425 new on eBay. I really like it but it's not perfect. Battery is just okay. Not terrible but I wish it was bigger. Trying to run location apps like Instacart Shopper will drain the power sooo fast. That's probably true for most phones though. I wish it had 120hz @ 1440p. I keep it in 1080p just for the high refresh rate. It doesn't look bad though I will say. I noticed others here said they have camera focus issues and that's definitely something I noticed on my own using it to take photos. It can be really irritating when it happens but 95% of the time it's a non-issue. No green line problems on mine. I love the big screen.
    Does anyone have a recommendation for well-fitting screen protectors? (I hate curved displays now for that reason) I still have the thin plastic protector it came installed with attached and it's pretty scratched up now even with gentle use.

    • @tamwilfred
      @tamwilfred Před 3 měsíci

      @@sburton015 Thanks, I already knew that. I did some research to double check. That's why I just mentioned the S21 Ultra only and not the S22 or S23. I can only assume Samsung was testing the waters to see if there was a demand for a higher speced Ultra phone with the s21. I think at that time some of the Chinese brands might be selling 16GB Ram version of phones an Samsung might want to compete. Since most consumers probably buy the base model they probably didn't bother having a 16GB version for the s22 U and s23 U. That seems to be the general ethos of Samsung: throw a bunch of design choices and features and see what sells or what is in demand. The Note 10 plus and Note 20 started with 12GB of RAM. From my use case, even while pushing my Note 20 Ultra, I didn't come close to maxing out the 12GB of RAM. You could say a lot of people as well. I think a few years after it would make sense to bring out the 12GB version for the base model since as tech evolves, there is a higher demand for resources like RAM in 2024. Also, that 12GB of RAM is future proofing the S24 Ultra since it will receive software updates for seven years now.

      @vikashmayrhoo5639 that's not the cards fault. I have an note 20 ulltra too the snapdragon version. Never encountered any issue. I don't think they stopped it for that reason. I think they stopped it so they can charge a premium for a stroage upgrade. SD memory cards for 4K video storage should have at least a V30 rating/marking, meaning they have the minimum continuous write speed of 30MBs required for 4K. SD cards with Video Speed Class ratings are specifically meant to capture and store video resolutions in 4K or 8K.. I don't think the person above owns a note. By the way they're talking. Ex. Snapgragon 8 chips arent efficient though. They run hot and consume alot of battery. I will keep the note 20 ultra for a few years until they figure out how to make it run as efficient. Note 20 ultra has 865+ which is an overclocked 865 btw

    • @CodyDaCoyote

      Samsung comes out with new phones too often. You barely get used to a phone and then before you know it they are begging you to upgrade. The flagships outlast their updates these days but ole Sammy is like "nah bro we can't worry about that old thing we pumping these out every 6 months!"🤦

    Yes, but other than that, what is the major reasons that stuck in android 12/13 is a bad idea.. Since.. We know, outdated android support comes to Kitkat after Pie release, which is 5-6 years, i guess. Im not confronting, but im just curious, what is another downside of not havinv software update, is it okay if i still buy this, and maybe use it until 2026/ 2027...?

    • @IThinkNowListenUp
      @IThinkNowListenUp Před 5 měsíci +1

      Slower shouldn't be concern.... From redundancy and ease of transferring backups from phone to phone- Expandable storage is needed. Can you imagine DSLRs manufacturers forcing pro level users to use onboard storage and charging for different storage levels? They don't and they provide 2 slots in some cases for pro use case. There are plenty of use cases where your phone can be catastrophically damaged with no way to recover photos for onboard (water or main board damage) memory where the files haven't yet synced to cloud given poor cell service or being too large to sync yet. The lack of expandable storage is a large point of failure for losing your data

    • @CodyDaCoyote

It's a good thing that it is not getting more software updates. Camera is stiill good! I hate the fact that. That phone is looking locked to 60hz at 1080p I honestly thought an update would of done the 120hz at 1440p cause the oppofind X2 pro dose it 1440p 120hz my OnePlus 7t pro McLaren edition 2019 90hz at 1440p. And I really wanna get a note 20 ultra but second hand they want 800 bucks I've even seen some over 1k an a s22 ultra is like 800 bucks second hand I've seen the od note 20 ultra for about 600 bucks. Like I think 500 bucks. My s9 in mint condition with everything except the earbuds. Cost 195 including shipping not one scratch but just not smooth an glitches out an it was my favourite phone I was like omg it's fast. Got my OnePlus 7t pro McLaren edition an it's like shit only one year above an way way better yet since then phones haven't really leaped so much kinda same with gaming consoles. An that's what sucks like the cameras have gotten better. Now iPhone it took them awhile to hit 120hz but their 15 and 15plus don't have 120hz an it's a disappointment. Cause Samsung with their s20 an above have 120hz the s20 was their last small phone to have 1440p as well. Their s21-s23-plus have 1080p screens now theirs still more detail or tho the screen aint as high resolution as the iPhone it still gives better colours an more detail an as much as I think eww even your s6 edge had a better display. It's not horrible I miss the fact of the curv displays on their small ones they could make a s24 ultra mini with the cameras an curv display with the box shape of their note series/s22-23 ultras. But at like 6.1inc wouldn't bother people if it was 108mp camera on it if it was small but with the new chipset their 5 cameras or whatever it would be amazing to see that
