Friend begged me to watch Jokic last season so I watched my first game in a decade to humor him. OMG we spent two hours on the phone afterwards and my husband who hates basketball sat there in amazement listening. Lol. He is now a fan and my whole family was glued to the tv during the playoffs.

Jokic, Giannis and Luka are the main reason I've started watching the NBA again. The only thing they care is playing basketball and they're so much more down to earth than most of the American superstars with their gigantic egos.

    • @AVAXII
      @AVAXII Před 6 měsíci +5

Me too. I stopped watching it in 2000s when teams were getting robbed so Kobe and Shaq could get rings. Watched a final series now and then, and tried watching it again 7-8 years ago but hated no defense basketball, guys kicking defenders in the nuts and getting 3 free throws for it, flopping, someone getting 50 pts every other night, superstars forming superteams ( that fail 99% of the time) every season, best players in the league not wanting to compete but joining team that already won 2 titles, average players that can only go one way, or can only play defense getting max deals, load management...then Luka came and made a fool out of Booker, then Giannis won it the right way and called ring chasers out, and then finally Joker started dominating. Racists almost ruined last season for me, but Joker didn't let them. He destroyed everything and everyone in his way, swept LeMight Retire and got a chip. NBA is fun again.

Incredible player, incredible guy. Couldn’t care less about his stats or anybody else’s.
Totally team oriented. Just wants to win. Reminds of early Celtic guys. Auerbach had the same philosophy as
the Joker. So did Russell, and the rest of those guys.
The Joker is so humble, and so honest. The American media aren’t used to this. They’re looking for drama. That’s not him. He downplays his own skills, which are enormous. He may not be an Olympic athlete, but he’s easily one of the best all around players in NBA history.
There aren’t any point guards in the league who can see the floor and make the passes this guy does every night!

Also from an European perspective: no matter how many points Lebron, Jabbar, Wilt and all the others before made (or will make) in their careers, MJ is the GOAT and made NBA international because of the beautiful way he played the game, for instance the way he would change his shooting position or shooting technique in the air depending on how the opponent reacted, of course thanks to his insane hang time, his stats only added to it. Lebron and the others are just much less spectacular and the softening in NBA's defense rules and increase of three-point-shots just made it easier to score a lot.

Denver is only 1 mio people, greater Denver 2 mio and the entire state is 6 mio. So the local media is small; one major newspaper, two small national sports outlets and two growing local outlets. So regular season post-game pressers are like 6 accredited journalists, all dedicated to Nuggets coverage, all of whom are well known to the players and coaches. These playoffs it’s a huge room with national and international journalists. That explains why it is awkward.

I don’t think he means it like that. I think he’s talking about how people just obsess over individual stats when it’s a team game.
In American sports they always focus on individual players’ stats and if a team does well it’s only because of that individual and likewise if a team does bad it’s because of that one player “choking”. People talk about the best players like “how many rings does he have?” even though they didn’t win them alone.
In European sports (even basketball in Europe too) the focus is much more on coaching, style of play etc and it’s never about individual players. They get their recognition still but they aren’t seen as the sole reason for winning/losing and having the best player is not the most important thing either, it’s about having the best team and best coaching.
Individual stats mean nothing in Europe if you aren’t playing winning team basketball.

Stats in general could mean a lot for some plans and tactical preparations, training. But for the average fan stats are meaningless. These days every match somebody broke some record. They are inventing and searching for any number that can make a record. People should be watching games more. Focusing on the flow of the ball. Those individual stats are not important. Americans are making the list who is where in zillion categories. Why would i care if somebody is having 3.2 steals per game and what would mean for his legacy if he pushes it to 3.5 steals per game ?

      @@unwokeneuropean3590 Alright then, fair point.
But I also think the stats don't have much to do with the sports themselves, it's only the promoters/media that present these. It's simply their business model, to push out some content and make a show, so they can sell it, and intersperse it with ads that they also get money for. That the media companies are American also has little to do with it, other media companies can do it, too.
Anyway, stats are simply show business, nothing wrong about that. The players job is still always the same, regardless of the media/stats and the country that they are in.

@@_munkykok_ we have a different business politics. Obviously it helps that the biggest sport is soccer where fans are very tribal. They will always cheer for their team no matter which players are there in the roster. The focus is on teams, not on the super individuals even if there are guys who are larger than life (Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo). Trust me, its much nicer to enjoy the matches without the excel spreadsheets with 10000 numbers. In soccer you can be the worse team by all statistical evaluations, even during the match itself, and still win by a lucky goal.

Serbian reporter asked if there is a possibility of game four being a surprise, if so will Miami surprise Denver or vice versa. Also, he asked how it feels being so close to winning it all.
Jokić answered that, basically at this point there are no surprises. Two teams can't really surprise the opponent. When it comes to 'how it feels being a step away', he said that it would be a first time in franchise history so it is very special.

There are other things that can be done to help your team win - Russell understood it and so does Jokic.
