My personal opinion, it is not due to the norm of corporate to be good in comms but it is the need , coz most of the orgs are service providers and even the orgs which are product specific need to collaborate with people sitting in US , UK, AUS etc etc . Hence it is a need not just a norm and putting this culture is useful than necessary

I am not getting a job with even decent communication.
It's not communication but lack of jobs in the market plus too much competition which is a problem.
There are many with decent communication skills & not getting the first interview call just because they don't have some "put something here" degree or are above "X" age.
It may seem like a rant but it's bitter truth. There is a dearth of jobs in the market & labor exploitation by making people work more than 9 hours and paying low.
