So far through episode 5, a GM gollowing the guide shouldve handed out 20ish. Troy has given 1.
We stopped using hero points years ago and i've never looked back. Everything is so much more tense knowing everyone doesn't have get out of jail free cards.
Not to mention all the absolutely *great* situations that have resulted from inoportune 1s that never would have happened otherwise.
I honestly expected Troy to say, "Yeah Joe, I feel like we spent more time on your first characters backstory than his actual lifespan." 😂

Sydney is getting the shakedown on her fighter from all the squishies trying to peer pressure her into tanking for them. I have heard squishies do this hundreds of times. Don't listen to them - this group has a solid pattern of letting the tank die.
I felt so bad for her. It sucks when you have a perfect vision for a character and then people come at you and go "Uh...yeah that's great, but [Insert mountain of metagaming]". In my personal opinion stuff like this is why the GM has to balance *to* the party. Nobody wants to be railroaded so hard because the rules of the game make it so doing anything else will lead to character death. It's something that absolutely plagues tabletop gaming.
fighters in pf2e aren't even really the best tanks, they're more just huge damage dealers
@@Krayne95as a forever GM. We have enough on our plate. If the party is agreeing to play a pre-written campaign, play what you want, but don’t expect me to do mental gymnastics week after week to make sure the campaign keeps your character alive.
You can still parry and pump feats into that if you want it to be even better with two weapons or a two-handed fighter tank.
The best defense is a good offense!

Hey if this gets to sydney early enough, double slice is great. Use a nice one-handed weapon and a gauntlet. Then take the dueling parry at level 2. This acts as raise a shield but no block. So you do get some of the defensive qualities but not as much tanking and you keep double slice. Or if catfolk get a claw attack use that instead of the gauntlet if the rules work that way.
Or you can save a feat, keep Shield Block available, and do a Shield Bash for one hit of Double Slice. You can also buy a Shield Boss/Spikes and etch runes into them or copy the runes with Doubling Rings.
You can also just double slice with a one-handed weapon and a shield. But yes, Double Slice is fantastic. The gold standard of MAP-efficiency activities.
For those not familiar with 2e, there are MAP-efficiency activties (Double Slice - same actions as 2 Strikes, but you get no MAP penalty) and action compressor activities (Flurry of Blows - 1 action for 2 strikes, but MAP applies normally). Very rarely you also get both (Magus Spellstrike gives you 3 actions worth of things for 2 actions *and* you get it at no MAP).
Seakeith changing his name to Landkeith is one of my favorite GCP memories. Always makes me chuckle when it pops up in my brain.
Since you are using Foundry, you can create a Loot Actor and make it owned by all palyers to keep track of treasure

Can you elaborate on this? Are you just giving all the loot to a single extra actor for storage?
@@Krahnin yes i made a extra actor of the Loot type and made all the players owners of that actor. That way they all see what items the party has and how much gold they own and then they can distribute them as they see fit
Even better, in the most recent version of the system there exists a "party sheet" by default which includes a shared stash and many other neat things like an overview of skills
I completely agree with Joe’s take on Lawful Neutral being the scariest. I played a minor noble who was lawful neutral in a campaign because in my mind he had no real care for good or evil, just what kept him rich and powerful, so he cared deeply about societal rules because those rules were the framework for why he was powerful. A person unconcerned with morals using the system to keep themselves powerful seems to be the template for most real evil in the world.
Dual wielding fighter : there are many Feats to make that concept more tanky, that add AC, riposte after parrying, etc.
- Twin Parry, Twin Riposte, Twinned Defense.
I liked Sydney's vision for a dual wielder, hope she doesn't get persuaded away from it by the others.

We give our treasure tracker an extra hero point at the start of the game. and I get one for keeping track of initiative type things

the personal alignment talk was one of the absolute most real moments on the network. really feeling beyond surface level on their actual thoughts about one another. super cool.
Beginning to think of a character years in advance is such a hard thing to ignore. You get all these ideas and want to use them now but you still have a current game to get through! But yeah, session 0 really is like peak excitement for a game.

Shields just straight up reduce damage when you use the reaction. That can be HUGE for survival.
Currently I am in the low 300s in my Giantslayer listen and I have a couple of thoughts, just thought I'd throw them here. At this point in the podcast I look forward more to the pre-game banter than the actual play, it can be pretty hilarious (I suppose it helps I'm from the same generation as most of the group). Maybe it is because it is an in-person recording sesh that it flows so well, but I love it. Secondly, and this may get poopoo'd by some people, but I really believe that monster and other enemy skills, abilities, spells, etc. don't have to mirror what the PCs have access to, and that in some cases they should be tweaked and flavored up to avoid the metagame and keep players on their toes.
Re: exacting strike. It has the press trait, meaning you cannot use it on your first attack on your turn. It only has any value if you're making three (or more) attacks in a turn.
The first part of your statement, about not being able to use a Press ability as the first action, is true. After that you couldn't be more incorrect, here's the second sentence of the Press traits description for proof: "An action with the press trait can be used only if you are currently affected by a multiple attack penalty." You get the Multiple Attack Penalty as soon as you make an attack(and some other actions), you do NOT have to make three attacks on your turn to make press actions valuable!

There's an option to defend as a dual weapon fighter, Twin Parry. It gives a +1 or 2 to AC depending if you're wielding a parry weapon but you don't get the shield block with it.
Or use double slice with a shield and a normal one handed weapon. You can in fact hit people with a shield too.
To follow up Joe's monolog on INT characters: the ranger has an INT build that I've always wanted to play but I'm a forever Gm so...yeah. 😢

Carrying a shield with a Shield Spike or Shield Boss can be a way to keep Double Slice while having the ability to raise a shield.
It grinds my gears so much that on Nexus when you add ability score bonuses for ancestry at least, Intelligence and Wisdom have switched place from the typical order.
V excited for this campaign! I’ve been looking for a good Pf2e campaign and loved the Masks of Nyarlathotep on this channel!

58:42 Matthew my good sir, I do not have to IMAGINE one, I made one a few years ago for 5e. He was VERY un-Orc-like, more calm, didn't care for violence, and he was a druid! Unfortunately I didn't get to play him much because that group kept having issues with scheduling.
I made a half-orc illusion wizard much like that, and played him through age of ashes, we got to level 9 before falling through in that group. I miss him and that party a lot but I had a great time playing him.

Palladium had a great alignment system with pretty clear deviation between them. Though it was more of just personality than alignment. I usually picked a neutral one like unscrupulous. Though in real life I follow way to many rules while wanting to rebel against it. But I don't steal mugs from bars as an example.
That was fun. Looking forward to seeing if they survive this en-monochromizing.

Why does everyone forget Kate's Star Trek RPG roleplaying voice?! So funny! I loved that.
My party had two champions, no clerics. That still gives a fair amount of healing -- Joe didn't *have* to go cleric. Others can also heal. But hopefully he loves the character he has crafted.
I’m running abomination vaults, and the party “healer” is the barbarian with medic archetype.
When I was a kid we had something we called Character Generation Night. And I hated it. Usually because there was a good chance we'd never actually play the game before some new shiny came along. Glass Cannon has made it bearable to relive 😆
I like that some of GCN's games have character creation and a few minutes of play in the same session. I may try it the next time I start a new game

I have a 5e game I play in, where at the end of session we nominate players for good roleplaying or cool moments. And they get Inspiration. If you already have Inspiration you can give it to another player. But you can only have one; after you spend you it you can get it again.

Double slice should work just fine with a shield. Just put a boss or spike on the shield and it counts as a weapon.

Exacting strike is hard to make work with other things. because you already have to have a Multiple Attack Penalty active to use it (Press). So it implies that while you're already at a -5, you can attack, and then your third attack will either be at a -5 or -10 depending on if you hit. its not that good really. All the best moves early on are two actions anyway and at that point exacting strike has no benefit for being your third action.
Yes, exacting strike is an activity that gets a lot better when you have reliable access to quickened.
@datonkallandor8687 Ohhhhh that makes more sense. Currently my fighter has power attack. Once I become a sword master I'll retrain to double slice. Double slice with sword and shield boss and when the shield breaks I'll switch to an agile sword

I think Sydney should stick with her Double Slicer and hope that a Ring of Protection turns up at some point (either as loot or at a store for her to buy).

@@falcon989 For the most part, hard numerical boosts from items and passive feats are gone. Mostly baked into class/level progression and specific actions like Raise a Shield, Parry, etc. This is why shields are powerful, not to mention reducing damage with Shield Block.
