Very helpful. I been changed primary filter left and right but thought I'd need to find the second filter or clean the tank. You mentioned single filter on RV and collapsed line. Judging from the black chunks in the used filter I just need to figure out witch line and hope it hasn't destroyed the lift pump yet.
Good video. Pretty sure my pump head has an internal leak because I am not getting any fuel out and only a very minute amount is coming through the FCA into the return.
Hi Stephen, thanks so much for the info. I am getting air in my HPFP. If I bleed supply line at HPFP. Engine will start instantly and run for about 30 second and then die. Will find air again in supply. Any suggestions?
I have a ISL9 cummins getting fuel into my oil starts fine but I also have a code for regen to frequent like if I have a injector over fueling but doesn't stalls I pulled the valve cover looking to hopefully find cracked solenoid no luck there what's the best and most accurate way for troubleshooting fuel in oil for ISL9 cummins thanks
How long should the high pressure side of an 8.3 ISC CAPs system hold pressure on shut-down? Mine drops to 0 psi within a minute. No white smoke, no fuel leaking on the injector return line. Having starting issues. Thanks! Edit: at 17:14 you a describing the psi decay test where you are using the scan tool to force the psi control actuator to allow 25000 psi into the injectors and also to the psi relief valve. My question, on a normal shut-down, this same area should hold pressure right? The fuel control actuator should be closed? And so if my injectors are not leaking, it would be either a fuel control actuator issue or the pressure relief valve? Need some help. Thanks!
Its been a long time since I've worked on them. Im honestly not sure if the fca is normally open or closed. I think it opens a few seconds after the ignition is turned off in order to bleed the pressure from the fuel rail. I can tell you that an easy test is to remove the return line off of the presuure relief valve, start the engine, and then watch to see if you have any fuel dripping out of the prv. If you do then its faulty. Iv replaced a lot more prv's for pressure loss then I have injectors or fca's. Hope this helps.
@@StephenCoxfixit I can't find a prv on my system (01 Cummins 8.3 ISC CAPs) There is a fuel pressure regulator assembly that maybe would act as a prv? Thanks for the info though, I believe the bleed down im seeing is normal on this model.
turns out the bleed down issue I saw was normal for my set up. No PRV that I could find on my system. Ended up being one of the two engine speed sensors smh. But your video really helped me isolate that it wasn't my fuel system, so I am very thankful for that. Video coming up lol Thanks again
Hey Stephen great video. I'm working on a ISL and can't seem to figure out the fuel problem. I've replaced about every part I can think of except the HPFP and the LPFP. The lift pump doesn't seem so prime the fuel, only when it wants to. Lol I've replaced the lift pump, the check valve in the ecm cooling plate, all the plastic lines that go from the lift pump to the lpfp, I've replaced the fuel rail relief valve. Even replaced both filter housings. Do you think something inside the lpfp or hpfp could be causing it to loose prime suction? Thanks
I know this is a old video but what would cause the electric fuel pump to guit pumping I've replaced it 4 times in last year replaced fuel line already
Hello. I bought a Motor Home with an 8.9 Cummins with only 5000 miles on it. Does not want to fire up. I changed filters but nothing. We made sure we were getting fuel to lines but got to pressure valve and no fuel after pressure valve. What do you think it could be. I’m going to run codes and see what it says.
Thanks for the very informative video. A question on an average what is the life span for all these fuel pumps especially the lift pump that brings in fuel the first 30 seconds. Thanks
Any tips for replacing the electric lift pump on a 2008 ISL? I am replacing one on a fire truck that wont start. I have the ecm loose but can find any room to remove it with the main wire harness in the way. What all needs to come off? Thanks!
I have a isl 8.9 on a 2002 357. When I first crank it in the morning it immediately shuts off or start sputtering and blowing white smoke but after 30 seconds will run normal. It’s giving me the fault code 493- fuel pump calibration trim circuit error. Any idea what it could be or any tips on how to go about checking it?
Not true i have an RV and i have 2 filters. The wwy it was explaimed to me is the fuel water seperator is on the suction side and fuel filter is on pressure side
Stephen great video..can u help us my brother has a ISL 8.9 liters on a 2004 dump truck and has no power it doesn't go over 50 mph empty, already change the primer pump, filter was dirty and a lot of water, clean fuel tank but still the same issue lack of power it takes a long time to get up to speed..what do u think it is the problem here any ideas will be truly appreciated...keep up to he videos thanks
i wanna know why my 2004.5 dodge ram cummins 5.9 the 30 second key power up has no power there is power on one side of the 4 wires but the other two where i need it to turn on my pump it has no power looking for any kind of help thanks
Have a 8.3 cummins in a 2000 fleetwood discovery motorhome and motor will crank but doesn't act like it's getting fuel. How would I prime it to try to get it to turn over or where would I start for diagnosing issue? Has sat for about 3 months without being started
Getting ready to install a fass titanium signature pump. I get 16psi out of the secondary fuel filter, just before the CAPS, I thought that was correct psi but your video says 70psi. Is there a place for me to find more info on this? I have an 8.3 ISC. I'm thinking that with all the different rv layouts, your drawing might not apply to all. I have a primary filter between the lift pump and tank, followed by the secondary filter. The lift pump runs for about 1 minute, just on startup. It looks nothing like the image in your video though. I don't know what I'm doing, and need to get this thing going Thanks for any help or advice

If I have 140 psi pressure on the fuel filter what is the problem thank you
If i loose pressure within seconds after turning off the motor would that be the pressure relief valve ?

Thanks for the video. Can a Jam nut come loose and cause a small fuel leak? also can it be tighten up? Thanks Roger
Good information I have a 8.9 in a rv getting a 451 and 452 code could the pressure relief valve cause it?

I got a code on isc for “injector metering rail 1 pressure- data valid but below” code 559. What is the most likely cause of that?
I have a isl engine won't start with the insiste it display spn 157 FMI 18 the fuel filters was changed what can i do more?
PS...I am working on a 2007 PX-8.
I have no fuel in my rail at all any suggestions???
what does the accumulator?

This video is for common rail engines. 16psi is correct for yours.
