    He is such a nice guy. He is proof that the military style type of training, and screaming at the gymnasts, belittling them when they dont do so well, isnt the only type of coaching that gets great results.

    What a increditable coach ! He actually not a coach but a mentor for his students. He loves them, not only teaching gymnastics skills but the truth of life. He truly loves gymnastics which brought him so much ultimately. Good luck on his team !

    We met him at my daughters gymnastics competition. He was so kind. He took the time to connect with my daughter and he made sure to be positive and encouraging.
    My daughter has been working extra hard consistently in the gym ever since. She doesn't say it but I know it's because of Chow. Just being with him fed the fire in her. I am thankful.

      Back in the 90's, when I was competing as an elite gymnast, Bela Karolyi and Dominique Moceanu came to the gym that I trained at to have a training session for her because the competition they were in town for was just a few miles away. Myself, and a few other gymnasts got to train with them, and I can remember Bela coaching me, and I thought that was a dream come true. When they were about to leave for the day, he gave me a hug and said " I love to take you back home with me to my gym!", and then everyone started laughing and cutting up after that. The next day, at practice, I trained harder than I ever had in my life, bc just his being there and noticing me, really woke something in me up. Your daughter could be having the same type of experience since Chow spoke with her. I dont know why but, it makes all the difference when something like that happens

      Yup but too bad the US didn’t offer it to him so China paid him what he deserved and went there… I don’t blame him but wish the USA would have offered him something

      @@zoechow1470 it’s interesting to see all the Chinese women’s gymnasts compete in Tokyo with smiles, laughing and taking selfies on breaks-all while winning medals. I think it’s Chow’s influence who was adamant to his Chinese bosses that he be allowed to incorporate fun into the training and to let the girls be teens and maintain a “happy” atmosphere with as much stress minimized as possible

    Many don't understand why Gabby left Chow pre Rio. Chow wanted her to focus 100% on her gymnastics and Rio. He wanted 100% from her in the gym and he didn't want the outside sponsors, reality tv shows, etc getting in the way and Gabby wasn't willing to give all that up (can't say as I blame her she was young, and, she admitted recently in an interview, she was a bit cocky and could have worked harder)
    I WOULD LOVE TO SEE LIANG CHOW AS THE NEXT WOMEN'S TEAM COORDINATOR!! I do not think Valerie needed to or was forced to step down from one incident 14 years ago, (he was not her coach) but CHOW would be amazing!!

      I believe by the time you wrote this comment he had already been appointed Chinese team head coach, looking ahead for Tokyo 2020. I think he was definitely the best candidate for the job, far better than Liukin and his coaching philosophy is just the opposite to that of the Karolyis. USA had a golden oportunity but China's bid for their boy was higher. He said his family didn't move along with him though, so Team USA might have another chance in a couple years.

      @neversaygoodluck Před 5 lety +8

      There have been multiple girls in the past few years who have come forward about him, about how he was verbally abusive. There have even been gymnast who have been victimized by him like Kaitlyn Ohashi, who say that he's changed in the past few years, but the reality is he's still part of that old guard that prioritizes gold medals and that's why he shouldn't be NTC.

    • @neversaygoodluck
      @neversaygoodluck Před 5 lety +5

      I honestly don't think Chow or any of the coaches who have taken new jobs in new countries like Mihai are sad in the end. Their new jobs are NTC in their respective countries, and that's it. You take on the job here, you are NTC, but you also have to saddle so much garbage on your back that probably isn't in your job description.

    I actually have a job interview for Gymnastic Coach today. So I came looking for inspiration and see a bit more what it's like to be one.
    I am a qualified trainer, just not experienced yet - but that can come, and it will with the right attitude.
    That said, watching this video is most inspirational, and I love what Mr. Chow said at the end; Medals are secondary, it's achieving your own goals that's more worth it. Thanks for sharing this!
