Another great episode loved the fun with Billy and Irma and Elsie looks fab.
the first Corrie episode to be affected by ITV Colour Strike of 1970
Jason D'Arcy it wasn’t actually, the previous episode was actually transmitted in black and white when it aired initially, even though it was recorded in colour.
On the dvd box set there is a 1969 episode that is half black and white and half colour.
It's weird going from colour back to black and white, it must have been very annoying for the few elite viewers who owned/rented a colour telly!
@@MissTLI1980 Was that the coach crash aftermath, where they all ended up in hospital?
@@alexanderjones9572 It was I think.
Love these. Never seen them . Thank you .
That's Shane Rimmer playing an American. He's Canadian, from Toronto. Doing a good job sounding like a Yank! I remember he came back in the 80's as a Canadian, chasing after Audrey. Shane Rimmer is another Canadian who voiced a character from The Thunderbirds. He passed away last year.
No malice meant. But as a Yankee I immediately heard he wasn’t an American.
From the early days of British TV, it was not uncommon to use Canadian actors for American roles - Donald Sutherland got a lot of TV work here in the 60s before he got into movies. Kier Dullea, another Canadian, was the US space pilot in 2001: A Space Odessey.
A more homogenised British society were easier to fool back then, a ballpark North American accent was enough to get access all areas!!
@@Kevin849 It worked both ways in those days. All Americans sounded the same over here, all Britons sounded like Duck Van Dyke over there.
“‘E tried to visit me once, and I-shall we say- discouraged ‘im.”
“Well, so I should hope. You’re old enough to be ‘is flipping’ mother.”
😂😂😂
That was a good line.
Elsie is so pretty at this time...….
She was in her prime.
I agree - Pat Phoenix was going on 47 here and never looked better. I think she was in her prime in her early - mid 50s.
Great clothes too. Really classy and stylish.
What ever happened to sonny Jim?
@@danrobinson572 He came back 40 years later, got strangled and shoved in a box full of knickers.
On Christmas Day, thank you very much. Absolutely ruined my 15th mince pie of the day, watching that
On this day I was 10...... How the years fly by eh?
We didn't have a color television until 1974.
Lucky some never got one til 1980 like the ogdens

Whilst Irma loved her parents, it's obvious she thought they were simple minded and didn't show them much respect in the way she talked to them and treated them.
In fairness, Hilda and Stan were both common and clueless hence why the rest of the Street looked at them as a bit of a joke.......
As part of the storyline Irma and their son were taken into care and were physically abused when they were young . Hence irma's cynycism now .
@@muk8804 - Irma was horrified when her parents first moved to the street as the lack of respect was even more apparent at the time.
The affection for her parents grew over the years but Irma never really respected them (no doubt in part to the way she and her siblings were raised) because she was only too aware of her parents shortcomings......
Love Betty Driver.
Oh dear tossing then turning half the night no wonder Elsie is fuming
Dirty pots and dirty socks. Very true Ena. I live with 2 men.😆
Turning left out of the shop instead of right to go up the street.
Always bugs me.
❤ thank you for the hours you put in to give us these gems in really entertainment by real actors n actress Emliy is such a nosey cow
Irma was funny!
4:27 the staircase that leads to the Rovers upstairs is on the opposite side to where it ended up!
The whole pub is insane. In the front of the pub, the toilets lead into Albert Tatlock's kitchen. There's one bay window divided in two. One half is the bar, the other half is the snug. But beyond that is the function room, which would occupy the space where the road runs down the side. In the back, the hall, living room, kitchen and a outhouse also extend over the same distance.
Annie Walker was really a timelord and the Rovers was her TARDIS.
Glad to see the stepson of hell leave!
Love you coronation street ♥ 1 fan micheál
9:34 langton i said. I often talk to myself.
Minnie: Me too!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Its great without cardboard cutout Ken Barlow in it...
You can say that again
Wonder why Joe Donnelli isn’t in the army anymore. Dismissed? Fast forward to Christmas...
It's worse than that mate⚰️
Just imagine a black time traveller. Went to that era. Moved in. Had 2022 furniture TV(if it works) washing machine. He'll be the talk of the street. Before the police take him away 🤣🤣🤣🤣

What ever happened to sonny Jim??
Elsie should've married Len. All the others are rubbish.
why did Ken go to America ?
To teach in NY.
Alan the character is as vile as Alan the actor was.
Why is the actor vile
@@corriearcade60 I can only go by what I've read - that he was an arrogant egomaniac and an alcoholic who made poor Pat's life a misery when they were together.
9:25 nice little Jack Thackray song reference there from Ray ... one of my favourite songs!
4:38 the staircase to the Rovers bedrooms is on the opposite side to where it ended up!
