  • Big Change After Running Gravely Mowers for 11 Years! Why it's HIS turf uses Gravely mowers, zero turns and stand behinds: Part 1. So those of you that know I have been running gravely mowers since day one. So this is actually my very first mower. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it. And even if I tried. Well, I have tried my dad won't let me so he co-sign with me We wouldn't partners on this back when I was 18 years old, we bought this mower and guys it has been awesome for my company. So that was back in these days. Okay y'all want to see what days, those were.
That was back in the lawn for tuition day So way back when, and it was a lot of fun. And so as the company grew things expanded, we got us ourselves into a pro turn 148 that we've been upgraded put a 52-inch deck on I later upgraded and bought a second one for my other crew. We actually this past year we just sold that 148, and we're looking to buy us another pro turn 152, or possibly even z x 52. We don't know yet. But that is something we're going to be demoing this year to figure out if we like it or not. So, I am excited about that. I've owned over nine gravely mowers. And don't get me wrong. They've all been great mowers, but they weren't all great for my company. I would like to share with you why. So the first mower that I can really think about that was like a bad purchase on my part was there 200 series. It was a 60 inch and had the big dump from the seat bagger on it... Complete with huge blower out to the side, and guys I thought okay, you know I'm a supervisor and I'm going to be able to dump grass without getting up and be so efficient. I'm not going to be losing those seconds on the trailer doing that. And I think I was a little foolish because the smaller was here just like driving a tank through their yard. And so as I'm driving this tank their yard I'm matting the grass that I'm just beating it down and beat it down, and I was like okay, maybe my yards are a little too small for this because we had really started capitalizing on that quarter acre size a lot. You know $45 to cut that type of thing. And so, I made that purchase and it wasn't the best purchase for me. And so I started thinking well what can I do to make this cut better I started looking at walk behinds because standards really weren't a thing at that time. So I said, Okay, I'm going to buy a walk behind. I'm going to get the sulky, I'm going to get the little side bagger the metal cage bagger, and I'm going to come from a different direction of a stand the grass up, then so we went in there with rakes we'd stand the grass up we turned around, we made it with this little mower going the other way and guys the mistake I made with that lower was that it was belt driven and not hydraulic. So, with the belt driven mower, what happened was is on hills I would start to slip so 36 inches you don't have a wide base you don't have enough weight back there. And so you're not really getting good traction anyways. And then once you put it 200 plus woke up 200 plus 200 plus pound man on the back of that. It did not like hills at all so I used that mower for around 200 hours, and proceeded to sell it.

Great information. I was wondering why you would choose a smaller mower for efficiency .I have ran the 460 pro-turn for 8yrs. Hustler for 4yrs. The gravely hydro's have been the sailing point for me.Way less problems with hydro-gear. Though I had to to change one hydro unit because no one sold a $10.00 bearing nor would hydro gear give out a part number for the bearing to me or my dealer.😡 So it ended up costing me $1200.00 and now I have a nice HYDRO-GEAR DISPLAY in my shop !! But I do like the way Gravely continues to upgrade there mowers and fix issues. One thing that I have never understood is how you make money with PUSH MOWERs in our business. I have seen really small lots in the Florida keys use push mowers but they make up there money with property maintenance and trimming. Thanks for sharing .

The 36" will primarily be replacing my 21 inch exmark push mowers. But I'm about weight on lawns and manicuring and that's why I like my exmark navigators. Then for long term durability I run th 52" for open lawns. 60" mowers are too big for our lawns because most are 6000-18000 sq ft. I have a few larger properties and my 60 is great for that.

I was curious what you thought of the Pro-QXT. I may get one for myself as a future homeowner because I see it like a Troy Bilt Flex, but better quality. Depending on my future grass amount, it'll be my main mower and then some. The one thing I want to see it have is a chipper shredder to take care of lawn cleanups.

I'm replacing a Husqvarna 46" riding mower with a ZT this year. I'm torn between Gravely and Bad Boy. Both are trying to sell me up on repairable hydro transmissions, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra $800 to $1000 to be able to repair rebuild something that might not be going bad on me anyway. There's a lot of extra expense in changing filters and hydrolic fluids, that I would not even have to deal with on a sealed system. Plus, I don't plan on mowing over three or four acres a week. Thought about getting the rebuild-able though and just not changing the fluid at regular intervals, say maybe once every two hundred hours. That way it would be heavier duty, and kind of like running sealed anyway, plus it would be bigger tires. What do you think about that idea? Gravely has a better warranty, than Bad Boy. I'm looking at the Bad Boy my magnum vs the ZT Avenger. Both have Kohler 7000 725cc engines. But I believe the Gravely has the Kawasaki FR691V. A ZTXL 52" vs the Bad Boy in 54" Which do you feel is the better engine? Thanks! < GP in ARKANSAS

it's HIS turf I have a2008 44 inch extra durability and love it , I got 3600 hours on it and put a new motor last year
I bought the same 2016 and I have a 240 hours on it because it never run and it take Gravely 2 or 3 weeks to get back to the dealer that sold it to me .
I got so frustrated with them that I have bought 2 new toro since and love the toro .
And the service I get .
As an old farmer we were brought up on Gravely . They now are a disgrace , Ariens has ruined the Gravely name

Hi Blake. I'm so glad I found you, Gravely experienced professional. I have Gravely 1334 Pro walk behind lawnmower. It was working sooo good, no problem. I did maintenance every year. I'm using only ethanol free gasoline too. Suddenly, this year my mover start to loose RPM after 5 min of working. I disengaged blades and put in idle and it's stabilized. I started working again and it happened the same - just wanted to die. I checked fuel cup, spark plug - everything is good. What the heck is happening? Can you give me some suggestions? Dealer wanted around $200 just to bring it in and check.

I love them exmark navigators. Did you buy all 3 with 42 or 48" ghs decks? Which engines are on all 3 navigators? I previously owned a Walker mb20/48ghs unit back in 2010. Like it but those sorry drive belts on them are way too narrow and pop easily. I weigh 355 lbs. So I sold that mower in 2012.

I have never run a navigator so not sure how they compare but I have had very good luck with mine. They are definitely a finish mower, same as your navigator but the cut quality is amazing. My customers are always commenting on how good the cut is. I’m in eastern Washington and most all of our nicer lawns expect us to bag. Right now we lay down a tarp, then at end of day we twist up one end of tarp and attach tow strap, then attach other end to Walker and drive forward. It will pull some loads of grass off quickly. But I still wish I had a better way.

First let me say i run 2 gravely mowers. For most part, i like them. I bought a new one last year, in 2 hours already had carb issues. In 4 hours the fuel filter melted to crankcase. The dealer tried claiming it didnt get that hot. So i showed him. I contacted gravely because of this could present a lethal issue. I got an apology from them. Thats it. When i was at the dealership a few days ago just to pick up blades for an old exmark metro i have i told dealer about a spindle issue i had. He contacted exmark. The replaced spindle for free. Keep in mind my metro is over 10 years old, they still stood behind it. My NEW gravely now eats wheel motor belts, i have remedied the fuel filter, carb issues, and breaks a recalled tensioner spring that they never contacted owners about. So now im selling my gravely equipment going to exmark. . When gravely wont back their products while under warranty, and take the time to fix faults before it hits shops, they become a liability
