  • Maruni is a Nepalese folk dance of the Magar community which is popular in Nepal, Darjeeling, Assam, Sikkim, Bhutan and Myanmar. It is mainly danced as part of Dashain and Tihar (Deepawali) festival.
Adorned with colourful dress and rich ornaments, performers dance to commemorate "the victory of good over evil", accompanied by traditional Nepali Naumati Baja orchestra. The songs that accompany this dance have a wide variety of themes, from mythology to everyday life.
