  • Dr. Ellsworth Wareham has been working as a surgeon for many years. He went vegan many decades ago and since then, having retired at 95 years of age (!) he now resides in a blue zone - Loma Linda.
Aside from having adopted a whole food plant based vegan diet many years ago, Dr. Wareham mentions keeping a positive, optimistic attitude as one of the secrets for longevity.
This has originally aired on CGTN America TV in 2015.

I agree that younger people can also have a lot of wisdom. Ironically though, a lot of people don't live his lifestyle, and it is good for them to hear. I have to say, that when I hear that someone is 100 yrs or more, my ears do perk up.

I am a quadriplegic 61 years old. In March I found a black spot on my foot. I went to my doctor at Loma Linda and they sent me immediately to the ER because I had gangrene.
They did an oxygen ultrasound on my foot, it rated 2 out of 100.
And they couldn’t find a pulse.
While I was laying in the ER I decided to finally go vegan. Not 100%. But probably 97%. The 3% I get is from chicken stock, Parmesan cheese, and occasional piece of fish and once in a while I get a bean and potato burrito from Alberto‘s.
For years leading up to this I’ve been praying to God for his help and slowly I’ve changed my diet. In the years before I eliminated milk and butter. Then I got rid of fast food processed foods and cut way back on meat. Stopped eating cured meat. No bacon no ham no sausage.
And even with this I got gangrene.
So I went vegan and in six months I went from no pulse in my foot to finding a pulse! I went from an oxygen level of two in my foot to29. In six months.

Some omnivores believe what they eat is also beneficial to their health, but many omnivores don't care or don't have a reason to care, and will eat anything in any quantity, resulting in poor health and an early grave.

ανεμοδαρμένο γατί I agree we are part of the food chain, it’s just that the way we are killing animals isn’t humane anymore. It’s just a really mass produced murder house that animals are born in and never really get to live. It’s sad. A lot of the animal is put to waist as well, because meat producers don’t really need much of the animal except for the edible parts. Animals were once respected when killed and people were so grateful for them, but have now they have turned into our slaves and thought of as property. There needs to be a test where people are put on a raw diet for a few months and then given white meat some once a week, some 2 and some every day and do the tests then, until then i will eat organic chicken and fish at least once a week and eggs may be one day a week too but i don't eat sugar, gluten, dairy and oils.

Wareham ate fish regularly. The myth of "the vegan who lived to age 104" seems to be widespread though. VegNews, Plant Based News, Forks Over Knives, Encyclopedia of Seventh-Day Adventists, and lots of others claim he was vegan, even a long-term vegan, and don't mention fish at all.
    Ellsworth Wareham
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellsworth_Wareham#Diet
    - claimed "vegan" who died at age 104
    - actually not vegan or even vegetarian, ate fish
    - also became an animal-foods-limiter in middle age
    - from the book The Blue Zones Solution: Eating and Living Like the World's Healthiest People, told Dan Buettner: "...at middle age, I decided to become a vegan. With the exception of an occasional piece of fish, all I eat are plants."
    - obviously ate a whole-foods low-sugar diet, dessert for example would be dates and nuts
    - "He avoided refined sugar and rarely ate out at restaurants unless he was ordering salmon."
    - obviously a confused person: "In a 2009 interview, Wareham described himself as a vegetarian." "In 2011, Wareham stated that he had been a vegan for 30 or 40 years but he did not remember the precise date." "In 2015, Wareham attributed his longevity to a vegan lifestyle."
    - Bible kookery: "He stated that this diet was similar to what God prescribed for the Garden of Eden."

@Tamagotchi A balanced vegetarian diet provides all the required nutrients that the body needs, just read what the scientific literature reveals, and it demonstrate vegetarians live healthier and longer, so the original vegetarian diet given in Eden still the best. Hera is what different academics of nutritions state:

It is the position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that appropriately planned vegetarian, including vegan, diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. These diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, adolescence, older adulthood and for athletes. Plant-based diets are more environmentally sustainable than diets rich in animal products because they use fewer natural resources and are associated with much less environmental damage.

Genetics.... My genetics are fucked from cross breeding 100's of thousands of years ago. People have lived over a hundred for thousands of years with all sorts of diets, fish, meat, fruit and grains. Some people are allergic to water.. It's a lottery so if you think you're going to live to 100 and more on any diet your very naive. My family's life expectancy is 70-90yrs. My friends is 90-110. Some are 60--70. Eat the diet your body best thrives on. Besides a vegans main goal is not eating animals and not to worry about longevity so I find this video pointless. Eat the diet.
It sucks that we have killed billions of people through time for freedom and yet here we are trying to control people on what to eat and what not to eat. People literally kill each other over which diet is best.
We need a world war 3 and fast to put this world back in check. We've all gotten a bit to comfortable taking our current generation for granted. Everyone is getting bored and the fight for survival is no longer there. People are less kind because there is no long a reason too. There isn't much to fear so it does leaves people disobedient. The problem is this new way of life has come to fast and through evolution it takes too long to adjust. I fear for future generations for what they will be going through.
