Learn how to write about more than one interpretation for the top grades.
Take opposing views about the role of the Friar in bringing peace to Verona, but upsetting the social order.
About Romeo and Juliet's love representing the passion of the individual, or the error of challenging social conventions.
Relate their marriage to the potential tragedy of Shakespeare's marriage to Ann Hathaway.
Or alternatively, understand the play as a celebration of his own marriage in contrast to social conventions of Verona and Shakespeare's audience.
Find alternative perspectives on the Nurse, so that she is both hero and villain.
See how a contemporary audience might well have seen Capulet as a model father.

Another piece of context to go with Tybalt's death coming after the marriage could be that Shakespeare lost a son around the time he was writing Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare could be indicating how marriage leads to disaster - had he not married Anne Hathaway, he would not have had a son and this tragic loss of young, promising life would not have occurred, similar to how if Romeo had not married Juliet, he would not be feeling this compassion towards Tybalt, and could have prevented the deaths of two young men.

i have my English Literature mock in a couple days...
How did it go
Nice video
Just an idea about the part where you discuss what parents are supposed to take out of the play, whether to give their
children more or less freedom, maybe neither was Shakespears intention - is there a reading where it's talking to the
parents, comparing their feuds and petty battles to something irrational, with the threat of their children dying if they continue the behavior?
You could try that as a reading, but it would contradict Brooke’s source poem, so it would take a lot of effort!
can you do a key themes walkthrough like you did with jekyll and hyde - it would be mega useful
I have!
Any quotes to support these explanations???
hello , thanks for making such an in depth video about romeo and juliette. im not a student, but when i was a child i thought romeo and juliette were rather selfish or silly, considering how the couldve gone around the circumstances, or ive often heard that tjey shouldve just waited a bit longer etc.
as an adult now, i really feel bad for thm, and i really hope more adults can reflect on the story, especially anyone who has kids. its unfortunate that their childrens love and unity had to wb sacrificed for society. wether fate ot not, its sad their fanilies and society really pushed them to the point they got to.
Did you delete the video on fate?
How many paragraphs would you need for a Romeo and Juliet question and do all paragraphs need to include language and structure devices or can you talk about themes?
8 paragraphs, themes
Sorry but if I understand what you were saying at 27:05 is that if I make a silly mistake, an examiner can mark me down because he/she is in their feelings. Whether it be frustrated that the mistake has been made several times or maybe for example in The Merchant of Venice I bluntly say that Portia is racist when I could say that she discriminating and the person is offended I COULD GET A LOWER MARK??? After all my hard work?? Some random person who doesn't know me can be in their feelings and mark me down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Juliet also goes against religion when she says "he will make the face of heaven so fine" attacking God's ability and power as heaven isn't fine without romeos face it also potrays how she didn't care about religion at all and used it as an excuse knowing religion was practiced to extreme lenghts to allow her to make her own choice - depicting juliets sly nature
how does the last point show Juliet as sly?im confused
Hi sir, I am revising R&J at the moment and I wanted to ask if I should re read it (as I haven’t read it since June/July 2022) or if I should just watch your videos?
I feel a bit more confident knowing the storyline and throwing in a few of my own quotes that I’ve picked up into an essay.
(I am a Grade 8 student right now and want to get 9)
You can get by on good videos with quotes. Take notes. Practice writing essays
Hehe "you have what it takes to succeed"
Thank you
Good luck for tomorrow’s exams guys ❤️
what scene does Juliet say she fears hell?
This video is great 👍 and no dislikes wooooo 😆
Thank you!
And for my question can i compare the relationship between Juliet and lady capulet and Juliet and the nurse?
yes
Excellent video, thanks for the help. So when it says there’s no need for subject terminology, does that mean it’s a possibility to achieve full marks without using any techniques, such as a simile or metaphor? Thanks
Don't avoid them if they're there!

Definitely. A little and often

is that an example of foreshadowing or not really??
not really...foreshadowing is when a hint is given for a future event. e.g. when mercutio says "a plague on both your houses" thats foreshadowing cause a plague stops romeo from getting the letter
Not me to using 8 hours before my mocks
exam tomorrow anyone?
Why are they examiners if they let their emotions get in the way of people's successes? Should that be allowed???
Everyone is like that, not just examiners!
Sorry this video is extremely helpful but it is too long even in 2x speed
Is it though? How long is an English lesson at 1X speed?
3rd dislike lol
Huh, why?
