Today was the first time I've ever made that comparison and I just happened to read your comment, and I hardly ever read comments. Please, please get out of my head.
AEW is dying right in front of our eyes.
E drones like you have been saying this for 5 years. Keep dreaming.
I would have started the show at the normal time in the arena and tried to gat the show to come on with a match in progress, with the “go home” for the finish set for that. They go live, “ladies and gentleman thank you for joining us here, AEW Collision, live, we have a match in progress here…” ref gets the tip, lets the wrestlers know, they hit the finish, commentary shows a couple highlights and they introduce Swerve, all of this in the first 5 minutes. Die hard fans would already be watching a stream, NBA fans would be seeing live action first and might have been enticed to stick around a bit longer. They still do the full normal length show after and the fans in attendance get a little more for their money.
Considering the circumstances of the rating, I see this as a huge failure on TK's part in form of Capitalisation. It's clear to me that TK's priorities are completely backward and he fails to listen, take the right action, and be consistent to prevent making the same mistake. To save AEW, TK must step down as Booker, Promoter and Head of Ceeative. He absolutely MUST side down OR move aside from those roles.
So good ratings are bad news for the E drones? Keep dreaming.

Well, when WCW was dying their ticket sales, TV ratings and PPV buy rates steadily declined as fans sent a clear message that they didn't like what was being presented. But no one at WCW listened.

SmackDown last Friday was down to 2.1M, like last week. They drew 2.5M last year. Soon, they will be below 2M like RAW. WWE ratings continue to drop but these dirt sheets trying to kiss up to Triple H never report it.

I haven't watched a full show of AEW in months. I'm back to just watching the clips online like I did for WWE for years. I still watch just clips for the WWE still today as well. Rarely can I suffer through a full show of either company.
They should have started with the best thing they had on the card to attract viewers. When Smackdown followed the NFL a few years ago during the holidays they started with a cage match with Roman and Kevin Owens. The ratings drop after that was big, but they got millions of eyes on their main guy and got people interested enough to stick around for a segment or two.
Pro tip: AND YOU DIEHARD MARKS WONT LIKE IT. if you have nearly a million extra viewers for a few minutes - send out JERICHO or EDGE or BOTH… and have them do something dramatic and spectacular. They beat down somebody, they get beaten down.. whatever . Why? They’re the only people non-wrestling viewers might know. They carry credibility with them… a causal or non-fan can instantly say: “oh.. that guy! Hey he’s on here? Oh what’s going on here?” If it’s good enough you’ll keep a few of them and he them engaged.

Numbers - or more precisely, the lack of them - very rarely lie.
The rating would have crashed either way, but Swerve's promo was not good. I like the guy, but he was sent out there to ramble about Tony Khan and the Bucks before he ever got to himself. And the whole 'I'm a loving father doing it for my kids' doesn't fit his character at all.
He has heel with Nana being his mouthpiece written all over him. He's presented as a mogul they should run with it. Nana is a natural on the mic. Swerve looks like a boss. Combine those strengths

The first quarter was high because folks just didn’t change the channel - it wasn’t due to interest in AEW.

Imagine knowing you were guaranteed to have an extra 500,000 people watching your wrestling program and you and your bookers send out Action Andretti and Top Flight to impress this half a million potential customers. Unbe-credible.
Starting with a promo at all was a mistake too. I thought the whole focus on the product was good in-ring wrestling. Why not start the show with the bell ringing for Swerve vs Claudio? Then you have the announcers advertise Edge for the main event to catch the attention of any lapsed wrestling fans
I mean they’re at least exciting. Not a draw but might keep some viewers on the channel.

I watched Collision Saturday morning, I liked it. Sadly after an hour and a half in, I had to help with my kid so I haven’t had a chance to watch the Swerve/Claudio match.
Dynamite's audio last week was beyond horrible - we were still waiting to hear a song come onto the loudspeaker, like it did during the pandemic lockdown.
I'm pretty sure I could hear Dave saying "Bryaaan" a few times.
They lost over a million viewers by the end. Crazy.
RAW lost over a million viewers from the RAW after WrestleMania to this week.

The craziest thing to me whenever I see these videos about ratings is that that many people still pay for cable. I know maybe 3 people in my entire life that still use cable.

Rampage IMO is a complete waste. It starts cold usually every week and features what essentially feel like dark matches/dark match main events they record for their Dynamite tapings.
If Collision is meant to be the second show, then what identity does Rampage have other than being the Heat/Velocity for AEW?
Rampage should just be a recap show, that's it.
3 hours of wrestling is a slog. 3 hours of terrible wrestling is a skip. Remember when Dynamite was suppose to be a sports based wrestling alternative? Remember when Rampage was a match dominant quick show to showcase newer talent? Remember when Collision was the serious show? TK produces 5 hours of annoying and embarassing programming that sometimes has some really solid matches and promos when the talent arent getting hurt.
3 hours of AEW TV on a Saturday night. Pass. 😂

All of the main stories are long term booking, from Swerve winning the title, Christian Cage coming back to attack him, Mercedes vs Willow vs Statlander, Best Friends breaking up, Bucks acting like Manchild Phil lied about how they act, Toni Storm and Mariah May, Deonna vs Thunder Rosa, etc. They won't watch. The WWE really had their own draft on the same day as the NFL's draft day 2... and got slaughtered by it. Did they really think that was a good idea? Still less embarrassing then the drop off for Collision after the NBA lead-in. They literally lost 1 million viewers over the course of 2 hours. At least Tony was smart enough to put Jericho on later so the NBA holdovers weren't going to be laughing at him again.
