Yeah...but people are hurting out here. Wages are not keeping up with inflation. The average family can not afford the average priced home. The price of everything had increased drastically. Hell, I spent $20 at McDonald's on just me and my wife. And it wasn't even their most expensive menu items. It's not great. $75k a year barely keeps a family of three afloat.
I think we need a healthy mix. By healthy, I think 80-20 of facts vs stories. As much as facts don't care about your feelings, the emotional pulse of a nation is still vital, and a country that's terrified of crime while crime rates go down is still something we need to consider
the other problem is that statistics, despite being designed to provide objective information, are often very easy to distort to suit the needs of the person quoting them. So it often seems like conveying a point through a vignette is more "honest" than quoting a statistic in a vacuum.
