I’m an immigrant from Africa. I came to the US in 2005 by passing my SATs and TOEFL and getting a full scholarship at Purdue university. I had to go thru 3 grueling interviews at the U.S. embassy in Africa just to get my F1 visa to come here. While here, I was under strict rules on what I could or couldn’t do or else face deportation. A mere DUI or taking a job off campus meant instant deportation. After I graduated, I had to apply for OPT and sought jobs from hundreds of hospitals until I was hired as a home health nurse and then my green card was processed. Watching these people just walk across the border and get into this country while I spent tens of thousands and multiple processes just to get here and stay here is so aggravating
It's America not heaven. You don't need to earn you're way here. You took a tough path but immigration laws also allow people to just simply file for relatives without doing all that. My point is...many different ways to get the US. Not because you had to prove yourself means that everyone else should have to. That's not how USCIS even works. Im sure you can now file for a relative back home even if the happen to be uneducated and broke. Getting to America is not, has never been and probably will never be pure meritocracy
