Long requested, we finally got to it- great Floyd song off The Division Bell, and great to hear Marco lead singing hear- plus a phenomenal guitar solo from Emppu!
Emppu is one of the world's most under-rated and under-appreciated guitarist around. he isn't flashy, he is just perfect in everything he plays. Such an awesome tone
So very, very true!! He does EXACTLY what is needed, at the expense of his ego, and possibly his reputation. Nothing is more admirable in my mind. Nightwish is dependent upon him doing exactly what he does, but when he finally lets loose, HOLY CRAP! He ranks among the greatest of all time in my book, but since nobody is reading my book, it doesn't matter! Glad others see his incredible talent and value.
It was in 2005. It was at the End of an Era show. It was the last show for Tarja. They let her go after this show. She was back stage changing outfits. Nightwish always had a song in their shows that allow the singers to change clothes. The US cities and dates are not out yet. When they are someone from the army will let you know. lol Tuomas is a fan of Pink Floyd. He did this as a tribute to them. They all did an amazing job. You are right about Empuu. This song let him shine. If you listen to any of their earlier songs he has more guitar solos. About Marko, yes most of what you have seen Floor is the main voice. But the concerts at Tampere and Wembley that had songs from Endless Forms Most Beautiful and some older songs, he sings more. They got to know more about Floor more, so they started to use him more harmonizing with her and a couple of songs where he is the lead. Her voice is so powerful that he does not have to hold back as much. I personally think they made this song their own and I like it better musically than Pink Floyd's version. Thank you so much for doing this video. I think it is amazing........... :-) Take care you two and thank you again for continuing the journey. I love watching you two!
Searched CZcams for Ann and landed here. Just wanted to say thanks for all you did for the Nightwish Family/Army. Only knew you through your comments but your positivity and patience to educate to listeners set the tone for many to follow. Those lucky few who knew you were indeed lucky. Thank you and may you rest in peace.
Very, Very few covers of Pink Floyd do them justice, this one is actually in my book better than the original. Which is hard to say considering PF is my favorite band of all time.
Marko sings this good, but I prefer the orihinal way to sing it (and I'm Finnish, bound to be biased for a Finnish singer). But I like the instruments better the Nightwish way. Has somehow more depth, when the heavy guitar, bass and drums make it more robust.
Thank's Guys! First😊Marko totally nailing this cover! This is one of the best. It's tribute from Tuomas to His heroes Pink Floyd! Totally own, but Flawless 💝. Emppu shining too!😊
I love Pink Floyd and watched people cover their songs. But this is by far the best cover ever and for Nightwish to do it just takes the cake. Three things to watch out for in this cover song. Tuomas and his composition. Awesome Marco and his brilliant Vocals and thirdly, Emmpu shines through with his guitar solo. Here you see that each member of the band is extremely talented. Thanks for the wonderful reaction. Expecting more NIGHTWISH reactions to follow. Cheers
You echo what I have felt for a long time now : Empuu could easily become established as a standout ,dominating guitarist, you know, the headliner; but he does his part, content to be within the music, and I admire the hell out of that, and of him. Cheers, Empuu !
It's quite unreal to bring justice to Pink Floyd's original. The sure were one of the legends. This always brings me joy. Not copying, making it their own. Many may have not heard the origional, but I still feel it's hard to find reaction people who knows the origional to say other than "It's hard to make Pink Floyd cover justice, but this is one of those that do".
As an old longtime Pink Floyd fan and also longtime Nightwish fan, this is just all you can ask for, just amazing. Emppu is a great guitarist, he really is world class, he just want to do his job on stage, he doesn't want to be in the centre, he hates interviews and he doesn't say much. Emppu and Tuomas are the only two members now from the original Nightwish in the band, but that doesn't say Nightwish is better than ever.
Emppu is underrated guitarist really. He is a professional and plays, what is composed. But then again, he has his side project's where he can play more freely. Nevertheless, he is very skilled guitarist.
Great reaction! Nightwish is such an interesting collection of talented musicians. Through every iteration, they have pushed on and made tremendous music! Long live Nightwish! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻👀🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
This isn't just a cover of a great Pink Floyd song. It is a structurally changed, improved, a great Nightwished reimagined classic. I had not heard this before and I couldn't believe my ears. This is greatness from all the members of the group.
Thanks guys, great reaction as always! Check out Nightwish - Crimson Tides. It's a movie score cover from way back, Marco wasn't in the band yet and the guys look like kids. Emppu and Jukka really shine in this one!
Whoo-hoo! THANK YOU!!!.... Yes, from "Division Bell"..... Emppu Em-ulates Gilmour so well!!!....Jukka skinning those drums!!!........ A different Dave Gilmour - playing "Pink and Velvet" with Berlin.... reprise of "Comfortably Numb"?... Marko does not have to hold back when singing with Floor... Tuomas' love of the music shines in this video! 2004/5 - Last show with Tarja. Have a look at the CZcams video "Denver Debacle (should be Denver Miracle!) between Annette and Floor.
You reacted to a lot of great Nightwish songs so far and I watched them all, really great stuff, guys! The one I really miss though, is one of my favorites: Ghost River.
Thanks for the great reaction guys! Emppu is very underrated guitarist by non-professionals, but as you said, he follows Tuomas's compositions and since the songs are so well planned out and composed, there is not often a need for a guitar solo-orgy that will make the song better, so he often doesn't get to show off as much. But when required to, he can really pull it off Marko was actually a very old school (since early 80s!) metal lead vocalist veteran before joining Nightwish. His voice got permanently and severely damage in a throat surgery in 1995, and he lost the ability to speak and sing. It took him a long while before he was able to reach a level close to his normal. Only later did he realize how extensive the damage really had been. However, he still has permanent nerve damage in his vocal cords and they don't work normally, and he shouldn't be able to sing at all!, but he has re-learned how to sing with his new faulty-equipment at this amazing level, which makes his singing even more spectacular! Check out his stuff from before 1995 to see how he used to sound at his vocal prime before the damage
It has been a tradition for Nightwish to start their tour after a new album release to head west. So propably they come to USA after South America. Make sure to go see them😊👍
In 2005 Nightwish played in Stockholm at a venue that fit around 3500 people. In 2015 they did a special show at the same arena. Unfortunately I wasnt at any of those but they do play at smaller venues as well. :)
This was 2005 "The End of an Era". The last live show with Tarja. Empuu killed it without going to far outside of the Gilmour feel> Beautiful job. Great reaction video once again! Full name "Erno Matti Juhani "Emppu" Vuorinen". It looks like Finnish for Ernest Matthew John Vuorinen.
WOW ! And that is for you guys ! I love watching you ! I think you two are great together. I absolutely LOVE the fact that you have become Nightwish fans. My son goes to see them evry time they come to the USA, and he is taking me in 2020 when they come ...keep on rocking, guys !!! Oh, and I have not found yet if you have ever listened to Within Temptation from the Netherlands...they are Europe's version of Evanescence. " beneath The Rose, from their Black Symphony album will be a great one to start with !!! ( please ?????????????) lol ! Thanks !
They just finished recording the new album, it's in mixing now and will be out beginning next year, after that they go on tour. No dates except for a few in South America and one in Netherlands announced yet.
its not remotely near mixing heh. I only think vocals just got done, and they gotta do miscellaneous effects and then go to London to have Pip Williams + London Symphony orchestra do the orchestral/choir parts based on Tuomas guidelines. THEN it is ready for mixing etc.
@@TerranigmaQuintet Yeah, think Floor just finished the vocals this week. But the Decades Live DVD should be out in a couple months. So we have that to look forward to. :D
@@TerranigmaQuintet Marko did also his part, he wrote it somewhere (Facebook?). And Floor did her part (she wrote that in Facebook). Rest, I don´t know.
Nightwish used to be considerably broodier than they are today. :D But this one's specific broodiness is really explained by the context: last show with Tarja, so the atmosphere was charged, to say the least.
"Ghost River" Live At Wacken 2013 is a nice, riffy, heavy song that has great duets between Marco and Floor. I'd recommend that one. "Ever Dream" from the same concert is also fantastic, as well as "Storytime" from Wacken 2013.
True that they weren't in Charleston, but they were pretty close. In 2018 (Decades World Tour), they played The Tabernacle in Atlanta GA, The Fillmore in Charlotte NC, The NorVa in Norfolk VA, and Minglewood Hall in Memphis TN among many other US and Canadian venues. They will be back for the new tour in early to mid 2020. Tour dates and venues are currently being planned and booked now, most probably by Jukka, the drummer you see in this video, who now works behind the scenes in band management, having bequeathed his drummer's crown to Kai Hahto.
This is most likely the best cover, or actually a tribute to PF. Especially Marco, who shines on vocals & Emppu likewise on guitar. P.S. You might wanna listen to this demo version of The Poet and the Pendulum with all the vocals done by Marco: Nightwish - The Poet and the Pendulum - demo version (Marco) + lyrics czcams.com/video/2oECYCV5-5w/video.html
This is from the End of an Era concert in 2005 with Tarja. I've seen Nightwish on their world tour in 2015 and 2018 here in the US. Hopefully they will be announcing the date for their upcoming US tour in 2020.
Thanks, this is always good to listen. They really do justice to original song. Next year tour dates are not yet published, only 4 in South america (May) and one in Nederland (November). Marko did his solo album and has been touring in Finland until end of this month. Feb he will have Middle Europa tour. So, before he come back to Finland... I guess that Nightwish might do North America tour either March or April or both months. Depends how long tour they have this time.
Well as a fan of Pink Floyd, Tuomas wanted this tribute to be exceptional..job accomplished, and Marco he made it even more brooding and darker than the original (IMHO). The band as a whole and individually did a fantastic job here, Emppu was especially excellent with his work with the guitar. Marco has a set of pipes that would drown out most singers if he let loose, however, now that he has Floor as a duet partner, no worries he couldn't drown her out if he had an entire choir helping him (LOL). Great reaction, as far as dates none yet but South America in May, 2020 so may do a few North America in April but the summer will be all the festivals all over Europe and then a return to the North American scene after that. Fret not gentlemen you want to bet someone in the army will let you know as soon as the dates are published? (LOL)!!!
Love this! Prefer it to the original. Marco's vocals are gold and the band is so tight. This is from the End of an Era concert in 2005 and immediately after Tarja was fired. For me this song was the reassurance to the fans that Nightwish is more than capable of carrying on without Tarja. As a side note David Gilmor's wife, poet Polly Samson, co-wrote the lyrics. Thanks for reacting on this one!
If you want to check out something even more older stuff, there is this dvd 'From Wishes To Eternity' (2000) recorded at club enviroment in Tampere. They were already big then in Finland, but not you know, BIG :D Maybe 'Pharaoh Sails To Orion' or 'Wishmaster' from that gig? :)
You already know Tuomas is the songwriter of nightwish but did you know that he has another band so different of Nightwish the first one called "Auri" and it's with his wife Johanna Kurkela & Troy Donockley (Nightwish) .. songs like: " Underthing Solstice" and "Desert Flower" are amazing... and the second one is that he has his own songs that is inspired by the life of scrooge (ductales) ..you should listen to : Tuomas Holopainen: " A lifetime of Adventure" and " the last sled".. it's a hole other world .. ;-)
You're one of the few reactors I've seen that has actually heard the original. Glad you guys finally got to this one. Also, If you guys want to check out some of their really old stuff before Marko was even in the band, I'm pretty sure their first DVD, From Wishes to Eternity, is on CZcams. You'll easily see why the record label fired the original bassist. He looks like he's bored as fuck on stage the whole time. Otherwise, it's a great show.
They have been to the states but their shows are usually in way smaller venues then they play in Europe. Even a small venue would be great though. I do hope they come back.
They are going on a world tour next year so I'm pretty sure they go to US as well, maybe do 6-12 shows there. Although US is one of the few countries in the world where they are not well known.
Yes. High Hopes is from Division Bell. Nightwish does an amazing take on Pink Floyd, IMHO.... ...and I'm a BIG, long time Floyd fan back to the early 70's. My second concert was Pink Floyd, April 1975 at Nassau Coliseum in NY. $8.50 for 8th row floor. After hundreds of concerts, that one remains top 5 for me. The first concert I saw Nightwish with Floor is also top 5 for me. This was from the "End of an Era Tour" (2005 I believe) which was Tarja's last hurrah with the band before she was dismissed. I haven't seen any US dates so far but they have been to Charlotte, NC a couple of times. I also caught them in NJ once before I moved south. Subscribe to their website for new dates when they are added...
Good observation on the guitarist. I’m sure he can shred as good as any other in rock, but most of their songs don’t really require solos to make them stand out. When you’ve got vocalists like Tarja in the past and Floor now, they take the majority of the attention, making the guitar solos to be more subdued be just enough to fit the song.
I believe this was from the End of an Era concert so it was long ago. Floor started with the band in 2012 and Seattle was her first concert, so they were doing a US tour then. I was in Orlando when they were there but missed the show which still annoys me because we had previous plans. When they tour the US and South America they don't have the same production as the Europe concerts as they cant ship or use some of the pyros and other gear. Laws and huge shipping costs prevent it. There are a few videos floating around of them in the US if you want to see their smaller stages. I hope they come back next year on their next tour. I am not against traveling to see them. I think their website actually has dates for the next concert maybe just follow the site til its filled.
I love the Micheal Jordan and Scottie Pippen analogy!!! You should do something from their "From Wishes to Eternity" concert if you want to see them when they were less popular...
I love this cover so much! Tuomas is a Pink Floyd fan.. If I was Tuomas I would only be a fan of myself. And Marco...I want to marry that guy so he could sing for me like that every night. 😁💕
Maybe you could react to Nightwish' previous singer Anettes current project The Dark Element material, or Floors "solo" project Northward. I think both are excellent. Happy for Anette finding a good match for her career after NW and for Floor showing she can really do everything.
SUB! Great reaction once again, keep up the good work guys! Here is something you should check, I think you would like this. "Northern Kings - We Don't Need Another Hero"... Northern Kings is a cover project where several Finnish metal singers are performing (including Marco Hietala from Nightwish and Tony Kakko from Sonata Arctica)

As a fifty year Floyd fan, I must say, most covers suck. But Nightwish did a commendable job. I still prefer the Floyd version though. The song lacks something without Gilmour’s guitar.

Here are some suggestions if you'd like to see more of Emppu's guitarworks: Wishmaster (End of an era live): czcams.com/video/eJTlH521E6w/video.html Over the hills and far away (Gary Moore's cover End of an era live): czcams.com/video/f2iFXCUFKfg/video.html Beauty of the beast: czcams.com/video/eJEJ6kcyss4/video.html (this progressive track got less attention than the other ones like Ghost love score, The poet, etc but is very well composed with proper buildup and interesting guitarworks) Have a good one guys!
I just typed a long comment about your comment about not being able to see Nightwish as a small band or in a small venue... and then my phone ate it. Curses! So I'll be back later with a comment about that.
Random question, but was Stan at the Charleston Southern University football game yesterday? I saw someone who looked *JUST* like him, and I almost went over to ask if he had a CZcams channel...
Guys, if someone asks you to react Nighwish's "Sleeping Sun", react the ORIGINAL one. It never gets reacted to, and there's good quality videos of it. The original was sung classical style 1999. In 2005 another contemporary arrangement was made, which imho wasn't too good. But as most Tarja's era reactions are unfortunately into the 2005 End of an Era concert songs, and Anette and Floor sang the contemporary versions later too, that's what we always get. Live at Summer Breeze festival 2002 (live) czcams.com/video/KDbE8dWY4n0/video.html 1999 music video czcams.com/video/UGfKMV5AbMI/video.html
The music video would be cool, if you do music videos. There's couple of "must" music videos from Nightwish, the other is Nemo, the other is the original Sleeping Sun IMHO.

(LOL)!!!
Floyd and Nightwish are definitely on the same level of talent and creativity.
They are 2 of my 3 favorite bands. The 3rd being Jinjer
Stan got it right. Emppu does not have two U´s. But thanks anyway.
Oh the guy from the left is a nightwish fan, good to know. A lot of quality bring from this band. I love it.
You already know Tuomas is the songwriter of nightwish but did you know that he has another band so different of Nightwish the first one called "Auri" and it's with his wife Johanna Kurkela & Troy Donockley (Nightwish) .. songs like: " Underthing Solstice" and "Desert Flower" are amazing... and the second one is that he has his own songs that is inspired by the life of scrooge (ductales) ..you should listen to : Tuomas Holopainen: " A lifetime of Adventure" and " the last sled".. it's a hole other world .. ;-)
Fabulous! You guys make NW army proud! NW i dont know but Epica is going to toir in US
WOW !
They will come to the US. I have seen them twice in Buffalo and Niagara Falls. They love touring the US. Do not miss that show!!!!
Thank you!
Thank you guys! Please do more Bloodywood too! Endurant, Jee Veerey and Machi Bhasad!
Love from India!
react to tides - tarot (live) and enjoy Marco´s voice
The crazy guy who leaves Pink Floyd was the bassist Roger Waters ;-)
Another good reaction from you guys.... as always. When ya get the chance try Alter Bridge - Blackbird ( LIVE from Wembley )
Wow
They have been to the states but their shows are usually in way smaller venues then they play in Europe. Even a small venue would be great though. I do hope they come back.
They are going on a world tour next year so I'm pretty sure they go to US as well, maybe do 6-12 shows there. Although US is one of the few countries in the world where they are not well known.
you say Tuomas almost perfectly.
If you want to hear more of Marko’s voice check out his other band Tarot.
As far as i know there were on US tour in April 2018. So i think it will take some time until they visit the States again.
I love the Micheal Jordan and Scottie Pippen analogy!!! You should do something from their "From Wishes to Eternity" concert if you want to see them when they were less popular...
Emppu once said that a great song always starts with a sick guitar solo and that is why Nightwish still doesn't have great songs 😂
Roger Waters is the name you were looking for, who left the band. I wouldn't call him crazy. LOL. I saw Roger Waters tour twice and it was awesome!
Thanks! I thought he had some well documented mental health stuff? But perhaps that was apocryphal.
@@TheBandSShow I believe you're thinking of Syd Barrett, one of the founders of the band, who had to leave, many suspect due to schizophrenia.
more from this Concert damn it!!!!...... Slaying the Dreamer with Tarja!!!!....... damn it :P
Good reaction. Try the islander live at Tempere.
DUDES! Please react to Nightwish - Dead Boy's Poem - Live Buenos Aires 2018 - Decades Tour
Nightwish- Kiss While Your Lips are Red live at Tempere

This is from End of an Era, 2005. It was the last concert Tarja did with the band.
👍
@@hannadegerlund3227 Wow!!!
Are you aware that Marco also has made a cover of Queen's "We Are The Championians"?
As a fifty year Floyd fan, I must say, most covers suck. But Nightwish did a commendable job. I still prefer the Floyd version though. The song lacks something without Gilmour’s guitar.
This is not a cover. In this version, Nightwish make it to her own song.
Thanks for the great reaction and analysis guys! Here are some suggestions if you'd like to see more of Emppu's guitarworks:
Wishmaster (End of an era live): czcams.com/video/eJTlH521E6w/video.html
Over the hills and far away (Gary Moore's cover End of an era live): czcams.com/video/f2iFXCUFKfg/video.html
Beauty of the beast: czcams.com/video/eJEJ6kcyss4/video.html (this progressive track got less attention than the other ones like Ghost love score, The poet, etc but is very well composed with proper buildup and interesting guitarworks)
Have a good one guys!
You like Marco singing..Chek out The Islander...Tempera.
Hey, that would be cool when you'll go to the next Nightwish Tour, if you do a post-show reaction. Just sayin' 😉
Well said u lovelies! ♥️😜👍
ROGER WATERS ....AMUSED TO DEATH SOUNDTRACK...ANYTHING FROM IT WILL AMAZE YOU
I'd recommend 7 Days To The Wolves. Some of the best harmonics from Floor and Marco.
Live at Summer Breeze festival 2002 (live) czcams.com/video/KDbE8dWY4n0/video.html
1999 music video czcams.com/video/UGfKMV5AbMI/video.html
The music video would be cool, if you do music videos. There's couple of "must" music videos from Nightwish, the other is Nemo, the other is the original Sleeping Sun IMHO.
Oh darn, too late. I see you reacted to a contemporary version too.
We’ll go back to that!
