    It’s been almost a decade since I sang this piece, but it popped up in my CZcams feed today. I’m happy it did. The backstory for the lyrics makes me tear up, and the fact that there are still so many suffering in the exact same way keeps the song relevant.
    This is genuinely one of my favorite choral pieces, and I’m grateful to hear it once again ❤

    I'm learning this song in choir right now and... I've gotta say, this song has me holding back tears, and that's something a song has never done before. Bravo, Mr. Antognini. I'm so excited to be learning and performing this beautiful piece.

      You are right, it is! This is, in a few words, the "story" of LA MIA STELLA:
      The sun is shining on a beautiful morning, while I peacefully read the newspaper. A photograph catches my eye of a boat with three hundred Africans on board. I read the caption: unfortunately, many of them will not arrive alive on the shores of Lampedusa, in the Mediterranean Sea. I stare attentively at the picture, and among the many distraught faces one stands out above the rest, a child with wide eyes, hands holding tight on the arms of an adult. I am moved, and I feel a duty to do something for this poor creature.
      La mia stella is dedicated to him and to all those that are forced to flee from their homeland in hopes of finding, after long and frightening journeys, a better life.

    Hello Ivo, I am a music international student in a Canadian university. Last year, the choir in our school practiced this piece, I felt so beautiful and touching. Although I don't understand Itaian. Then I knew the background of this song, it is a sad story. I had a inspiration, and then I wrote the Japanese version of the song's lyric. March 11 is the day of memorising the "East Japan Earthquake" (also called touhoku earthquake). It is about 9.0 level, and caused tsunami. Many people lost their life, it is very sad, even one my friend. So may I send other the Japanese version of the lyric which I wrote, on the Internet?
    Very beautiful piece, I like it.

    I don't feel comfortable singing this in my choir if it's about death and suicide it just not right we are all in middle school but I don't want to sing it know 😠

    • @emiolian
      @emiolian  Před 6 lety +12

      Oh no, Lill, you’re not right :-((
      First of all the song is not at all about suicide! It’s about the big drama of the refugees that every day have to flee from their homeland. But the little boy that is described in this story, although his
      parents lost their lives - not by committing suicide! - during the terrible travel on boat, finds a new life, a new place where he can turn the sad page and start again. This is the meaning of the piece. „La mia stella“ means „My star“ (Nyota Yangu in the boy’s lauguage: I imagined him come from Africa) and this little star up in the sky leads him in the right direction. It’s a sad, tragic story, this is for sure, but it has a happy ending. I hope you understood and hope you will sing a little bit more gladly :-)
