Sebastian's half brother, Jamel Thomas, also played in the NBA during the early 2000's too. But I have a hard time believing that Steph didn't help out his family, I remember he used to go back to Coney Island to help out people in his neighborhood. He used to give a lot of money and advice to little kids, so that they could make it out like he did. If anything Jamel should have been the one to help out Sebastian and his family.
Sean De Leon yah it was cousins but STILL. He could've moved them in with him for atleast a few years till telfair made it to the leagues. And stephon could've mentored him. And telfair could've got help form many others too. Like Jason Kidd, Steve Nash and all the great PGS then... yah! He did PERFECT UP until his decision to the league. In my opinion he should've went to college for 2 years. Asked stephon for some help to get em out the projects and Sebastian could've asked the college to pay him under the table. And he would've been having food on the table with a nice house out of the hood. And he could've gotten much better. He could've asked NBA players to help fix his shot and stuff. And then he could've entered the pros and would've prolly been a top 3 pick instead of a kid first rounder. And he would've got payed almost twice as much and would be more developed and would prolly dominate his rookie season. It would open much more room for him to drive if he got a jumpshot. Like AI, he was 6'0. So was telfair. But AI had a great jumpshot so people stood up on him. So he's just cross em over and take em to the rack and draw fouls every time 😂.

That's one way to think of it. But he wasn't thinking long term though. In the end, he's personal life troubles is what kept him from becoming a great player even though he the potential.

The story of Sebastian Telfair is pretty remarkable. I remember watching him play & thinking, damn, this kid is gonna make it. It's such a shame he didn't meet his potential. I think jumping from HS to the NBA may have been a bad decision in hindsight. Also, his off court problems contributed obviously. Sebastian's half-brother, Jamel Thomas, also played in the NBA though and IMO he's the one who should get blame for not helping out his family. He's also the one who started beef with Stephon and caused a rift in the family, he blamed Steph for leaving the Timberwolves early on in his career and said that because of that he couldn't get signed by any team because he was Marbury's cousin.

I remember graduating middle school and the high school I went to wanted me to play for them right of the bat. I beat varsity players before I even got to high school. I played ball with grownups at a young age so I was ahead of the game. I could shoot pass and play defense. I pushed myself to be better than my brother. I destroyed players but I could never beat my brother. He was always two steps ahead of me. The sad thing about it was I only played basketball to take my mind off a lot of things when I was growing up and got good at it. Didn’t have any interest on making it a living. The same with football but I stop playing sport and got really depressed and lost my way for a bit. Now I work a lot of hours to stay busy. Being rich would of help me a lot financially but money can’t take the the pain away. Nothing can but the best thing I can do is stay busy.
