It isnt escapism. Its the need to live your life without the stresses of the US and quality living . Having access to real food is crucial as well as great medical care. The list is long.
I couldn’t agree more, all the alterations to the food is really affecting our health
@Giggy7373 ABSOLUTELY. 💯
This country has decided it would rather be hostile to its citizens in all the subtle and not-so-subtle ways than ensure that its ppl are cared for, thriving, and happy. We have simply become the means by which a small minority of ppl can do just that, but to hell with the rest of us.
Why wouldn't we want to free ourselves from that??? 🤷🏾♀️
I don’t care if it is. Escapism is survival at this point.
Right! The word escape alludes to the fact that you are needing to leave a situation or location that is harmful. Because they want us to stay enslaved they are trying to twist the idea of escapism to represent something wrong or a moral failing.
Exactly. Shiiittt. I'm about to go back and I'm like hmmm idk how long I'ma be back 😂😂
Why is it escapism to want a better existence?
A lot of people feel that it is honorable to suffer...especially when it comes to Black women. They think we're supposed to be riding & dying. No Sir...No Ma'am.
My job let me know today just how little they value me. Escapism or not, it’s time to go, for so many reasons..
Im sorry sending you hugs and claiming as you set out on your journey things fall in to place. We live in a yes universe, you decide you want something the universe says yes
Good for you. I'm glad you acknowledged the sign. Best of happiness to you in your new endeavor.
Sorry they’re not treating you well Natalia. I hope you make your exit plan. 💗
@@StephaniePerry yes ma’am! Starting with your page and ExodUs!
Happy early birthday and safe travels! 😊
We as Black Women have NEVER engaged in escapism. We have always had to not only face, but battle, overcome, and redefine our role in dealing with REALITY. We can't live a fantasy and we wouldn't if given that. We SEEK RELIEF from racism, police brutality, and other outgrowths of a sick society. We are free to choose a better life and go where we can find that!! Thanks Stephanie this came at a great time !
I'm triggered every time I hear that statement "wherever you go there you are". i agree with you Stephanie, let's get out. Period!! Some of us are pushing/encouraging folk to fix their issues first. You don't tell a drowning person to wipe their nose before you pull them out the water. Fix it when you get out. Get some help in a safe place.
I must admit...as an immigrant from Guyana growing up in Brooklyn...I was conditioned to think that when I didn't see other black people (specifically Black Women) working as hard, that they were lazy. I don't think that sh!t anymore. According to a recent article in Forbes magazine, Black Women are the most educated group of people in the U.S. however one of the least underpaid. That's right! We need to get the hell out of America, out of toxic jobs, out of toxic relationships, out of toxic situations that are not safe, not affirming or celebratory of all the magic that we can bring. Escapism....PALEEEZE CHILE -- It is survival!
Guyanese and other West Indies people get on my nerves with this way of thinking about black Americans when we paved the way for y’all to even be in the states thriving 🙄
@@prettybrwneyez7757 : Listen! I know right! I am glad that I broke away and moved to the south and learned the history. It was then that I saw we were so much alike than different, and a lot of the views that Caribbean people have for Black Americans, is rooted in ignorance.
The perception is that living in the USA is the best place ever
Escapism for me was when I have to beg for 5 days off to go on vacation and cry every time I’m back and have to go to work with last week’s work pile. Planning my final goodbye hopefully in a few years, then it won’t be escapism but reality! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEAUTIFUL 🎉🎉🎉❤
It’s a BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE, In My Case. I’m HAPPIER, HEALTHIER and Living My Best Adult Life! Been Living This Life For About 10 Years . I Have A Gorgeous Apartment By The Ocean, a Balcony Overlooking The Stunning Ocean and Get Health Boosting Benefits From Ocean Waves and TALL PALM TREES!!! I Feel Fortunate and Grateful For Being Able, Being Empowered Enough To Go Get The Life I Wanted! I Also Have The Economic Freedom To Travel Around, If/When I Want. Praise Be!💙 I WISH YOU A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Stephanie Perry! THRIVE ON PURPOSE!🌹xox
Why what is accepted as other people's life options deemed as "escapism" for US?? 🤔 And WHY do we even feel we have to justify our life choices in the first place? We need NO ONE to cosign the lease on our joy. Let's please break the ⛓ of limited conditioning. HAPPY BDAY STEPHANIE!🎉
@@bluebutterflywellness2273 That part!!! I was just saying that. I want to see the world and explore what else is out there without having to explain my why…or having somebody try to reel me back in because our ancestors built this country…etc. Simply put…because I freaking can!!!
@@bluebutterflywellness2273 I love that! I need no one to cosign the lease on my joy!!!
Happy birthday Stephanie, May God bless you with many more. I am a black woman born and raised in America. I am getting tired of America and it's systematic racism. I am thinking about moving abroad myself. Here in America, not only are we dealing with white people's racism, but we have to deal with the prejudiced and internalized self hatred from black people. It is so sad that we have become our own worst enemy. As black women in America, we don't like to see each other getting ahead in life. We don't even want to see each other with nice clothes on or having our hair done. As black women, we are damned if we do and damned if we don't. Moving abroad doesn't sound like a bad idea. I am giving some serious thoughts about it.
Putting myself first, requires me to move abroad. 👩🏽 💫 💜
Listen ...the way this country is going we need to consider an ESCAPE in the most literal sense.
I’m watching as many videos as possible. My plan is to be out of the country in November for 20 days. I want to eventually completely move.
Escapism is real. It's easy to move to a country that you aren't affected by the defects in their government because you don't rely on their government for food, support, taxes, etc. If I moved somewhere and completely assimilated by getting a job there, raising my kids there, paid taxes and got healthcare there, then my perspective of that place may be different. Sometimes when we travel, because we can't understand the language, the crime isn't reported the same, then the dangers or issues we left may be unknown because ignorance is bliss. I believe moving, seeking, exploring is something we owe ourselves, but realize that as an expat, you have the best of both worlds - which is much different than if you were born in the place you are enjoying the benefits of without having to tap into the things that people born there may not like.
Moving abroad brought me community and taught me how to BE in community. So glad I left.
I live part month france and part month washington dc....idk, its way more fun and fulfilling in france than here.
No. Not escapism.
I think that for a lot of, maybe even the majority of black women, living PERMANENTLY outside of the US didn’t even occur to them as truly an option to consider.
I know that for myself, the thought of travel and living in another country part-time has always been an option, but not living in another country permanently and never living in the US again. That might be because up until about 10 years ago, I didn’t know anyone who left or was talking about leaving the US permanently, they just lived abroad temporarily for school or work, or lived abroad for part of the year.
I think as more black women talk about leaving and not returning to the US, the light bulb is coming on for others, and the more real it’s becoming as a truly viable option.
I am free so I go where I desire. Go black women Go!
Happy Birthday Queen Stephanie. 🎉 Live it up girl.
Yes! We have the absolute RIGHT to move for a better life. We do not have to stay and suffer. Whatever you do for money, I promise you, you can do the same somewhere else with a better quality of life based on what you value.
In a word, no. It’s not escapism if it’s a true desire and you make it an actual goal. If it’s just a “wouldn’t it be nice” daydreaming then yes. It is just a temporary distraction.
Happy Birthday !! I’m 50 also!!!
HAPPY 50th BIRTHDAY STEPHANIE!!
Even if it is escapism, so what?
Wherever you go, there you are…. There are seasons for both in our lives. Escapism or Reality. One isn’t better or worse then the other.
There's always someone trying to destroy our dreams. I've always known the US wasn't the place for me. I'm working toward leaving within the next 3 years sustainably so I don't have to return.
I was force fed the American ideology that the US is the greatest country in the world. I had to do a lot of unlearning and re-education to come to the realization it isn't.
Thanks for this video. It sums up what I've been trying to articulate for quite some time to people who refuse to get it. I also need this reminder from time to time.
Happy Birthday 🎉
People want to go where they can be safe and treated with respect Feliz Cumpleanos!
If it is. So what. Escaping from hell is lifesaving. Better life is elsewhere. It’s not an escape from life but an exodus to a better life. I’ve been thinking about it most of my life. Ready for it. Planning for it.
I love this video! I have been on a healing inward work journey. I have obtained numerous comments about Black people don't think right. Your problems will follow you. This is the reason why I have been evaluating my social, economic, and technological conditions. I lived in the same county for 33+ years. Environmental problems like homelessness and lack of true community have been factors I had been trying to change. Since change is not working for me, I have been trying to leave White City wiser. I had more than three instances where I dropped everything to leave this place behind, but found out when I leave, socially I am still attached to the environment.
So thank you for reminding us of the need for a support system. Support system I can trust. I've experienced where the individuals that present themselves as support to everyone watching..... but when the chips are down....The "fair weatherness" show!
Dear Stephanie, Happy Birthday sister Moonchild! So sorry I missed you at the LA Meetup at Dulan's, but I do hope you enjoy reading my book, The Orisha Talks (I left it in the gift bag on the table by your bday card)! I had a family commitment that same day and time so was hoping to run in and so hello to you then go to my family event. You're such an inspiration, you and Rashida! I missed seeing you down in San Diego at the publishing conference as well, so that must mean we will meet-up when I go aboard! Birthday Blessings! This video is much needed; part of self care is knowing when it's time to go...from a job, a relationship, and yes, a place/space/city/country!
Happy 50th Birthday Stephanie!!🎉
Happy Birthday and welcome to the Golden Girl Club!
Happy birthday! My move abroad dream isn't as much escapism as it's that I never felt like I belonged in the states. I've always had itchy feet for new soil since I learned how to drive lol! I just don't know where I'll land that will make me feel welcome to my new home.
Fiji is on my list for my 50th birthday, too! I'll be living vaycariously through you (see what I did, there?)! 😋Happy Birthday and enjoy!
Wow that’s an interesting topic. This is also something that’s apart of my prayers as I too seek to explore beyond America as a new home. Renewing my mind to understand my new journey. Why should I settle for what was handed me when I can choose with thoughtfulness and wisdom a new opportunity? Definitely a great topic to further consider in your plans.
We deserve better.
Thank you for inspiring us.
Happy Birthday Stephanie 🎊!
Happy Birthday!!! Enjoy this new decade 🎉
Society has grown accustomed to Black women carrying the brunt of everything. We are social justice warriors, mothers, cooks, maids, and everything in between. Why is it escapism for us to want something more for ourselves than being the servants of others. I would have to say no moving abroad is not escapism.
When black women cry it's a problem, when black women are silent were told to speak up, when we speak up we're told to be quiet, we can't win for losing. I support wholeheartedly any Black woman's desire to move abroad to find peace of mind and to find true happiness.
Relief is being able to wake up and know that you have done everything that you can do to make your life better. Peace of mind is being in a place or state where you can actually breathe and not worry about paying bills or taking care of yourself or having adequate health care. I hope that any Black woman who's reading this comment finds her encouragement to do what is best for her❤
Running for our lives from Canada and the United States. Go where you're treated best!!!! 😊
Nothing wrong with escaping Oppression, Exclusion, Jealousy, & Hatred! Not only could it better your life; for some, it may Save it!

Thanks for sharing 👍.
A WONDERFULLY BLESSED HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU STEPHANIE!!!!!!
There's a difference between escaping life and pursuing a better quality of life. For some, moving abroad is the latter. Great discussion Stephanie 👍

Happy early birthday, Stephanie. I'm grateful for your channel and all the guests you have interviewed. Because of you, the option and real possibility to live abroad was revealed to me. I've recently selected where I'm going. All that's left is the logistics. I'm looking forward to my new life. 🎉
Happy birthday Stephanie. Hope to see you one day, somewhere. Enjoy 🎉🎁💃🏾
Good to know you Stephanie
Happy Birthday ❤❤❤❤
Happy Birthday, Beautiful. 🎉
Happy Birthday Stephanie 🎉🎉🎉🎉
This is so real! I definitely don't think it's escapism when you have realistic expectations about the country you're moving to, understanding that no place is perfect. If you're expecting paradise with no problems or challenges, that may be escapism territory
Thank You So Much,
I hope to meet you someday
As a fellow Stephanie, this came right on time.
HAPPY 5.0 !! 🎉 🥳 🙌🏽
Happy Birthday ❤
Happy 50th Birthday Beautiful 🎉💖
very good video
Happy Birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉
me and my kids just moved back to Brazil. We have lived in over 12 countries. A lot of our traveling WAS about us escaping the hells of the US. I have been based in the US Virgin Islands though mostly over the last 9 years but we still prefer abroad. We migrated again mostly to live like actual humans in our FAVORITE country and to experience a quality life without being charged an insane amount.. Excellent video Stephanie!
Escapism can be moving anywhere, including in the US. Moving for the right reasons isn't it.
♥️ Beautiful Blessings
Happy Birthday 🎂
Happy 50th 🎉🎉🥳. I agree with you black women need to remove themselves from the unnecessary stressers and improve their quality of life 👏🏽

Happy birthday 🎉🎉🎉
Are we running from real life? No ma’am… in my opinion, we are running FOR our lives! 😂
Yes!!!!
that is exactly what it is
