They probably made the right decision but I still love that original line up and the first two albums. They were more rock n roll with Paul, more of a punk-metal cross over. They went a bit too prog with Dickinson for my tastes.
I don’t think Paul was going to be able to cope much further. If he remained with them, he would have lost his marbles. Not all these people can get famous like that. He was never in the right frame of mind for rockstar success.
True, but that’s not bad. If you’re into partying hard and just the love of arts, then you’re not made for big things. You’ll be playing clubs here and there, every now and then. But if you want to live off your music you have to take it seriously and turn it into a business. You have to be willing to work hard, touring all year round and make sacrifices. That’s the difference between amateurs and legendary bands.
I always got the impression that he quit, in all the interviews it was DiAnno saying he didn't want to tour extensively which is pretty much saying he didn't want to be in the band anymore.
Yeah I always interpreted it as a mutual agreement to part ways: Paul wasn't happy & wanted out, the band were getting tired of his antics because he was becoming a liability. Shame because he was a great singer & showman in his prime & his style lent itself well to the rawer, more punk influenced sound they had for those first coupla albums. Bruce is my #2 singer, behind Dio but I prefer Paul's versions of the early stuff
Super sux too, cuz, in MY opinion, though Dickenson is a better front man, Dianno had a more metal voice. Woulda been tits to hear em jam together in later years
What a great vocalist who had much more potential but lifestyle choices and what we think about can either Lift us up or destroy us. He started destroying his voice and there's no wonder why he was sent packing. A very sad story as that man could really sing. He did not have the mindset for success and the fear of failure failure held him back. Sad but I still listen to all the old songs
