    Just seeing the belt configuration helped. Thanks . The acadia is the hardest vehicle ive ever worked on not much space and alot of removal to get to anything.

      Yeah I did video on the idler pully and tensnor it was crazy tight

    On an Equinox, can you just remove the air cleaner and motor mount to access the idler pulley bolt?
    Pisses me off, I had a new tensioner and pulley in the parts box when the shop had the engine out to do the timing chains and head rework. Went in the “used” parts box (always request your old parts back) and here was the new tensioner and pulley! At least he installed the new belt…

      I’m not sure how the setup is on equinox however this gmc Acadia there was no way even if u remove mount and jack up

      Yeah...I'm just mad because I provided the parts as I knew this was a 3 minute job while the engine was out of the car!!!

    So to replace the idler pulley you have to jack up the engine?

    • @RBTheMechanic
      @RBTheMechanic  Před rokem +2

      Yup and remove the fuse box and remove the engine mount it’s a mess I did able to get the bolt out for what I show manually slowely

    • @northern3000
      @northern3000 Před 2 měsíci +2

      The official way to do it is to remove the fuse box and engine mount under the fusebox from the top then remove all bolts for the alternator and you can then get the bolt for the idler out. no need to lift the engine it all. besides removing and installing the belt, all the work is done from the top.

    Is there any sort of splash shield to protect the belt from splashes? Or did GM just leave it open to the world?
    My friends belt is slipping when he drives over puddles; I'm going to change the belt but I'm not sure if there's supposed to be a splash shield too...

    • @RBTheMechanic

      Yeah it’s just open I didn’t notice any covers

    • @AMCtilldeath
      @AMCtilldeath Před 7 měsíci +2

      It's open. If it's slipping the belts dry or tensioner is worn. The belt getting wet on these doesn't make it slip. Only thing I'd be worried about would be blasting through heavy heavy drifts and the snow knocking the belt off. But only a small area is exposed, and if you were that worried about it, you could pop rivet some straps of plastic (like from a Rubbermaid tote you find on the curb and slice up)

      No, you don't need to jack the engine, you can just unscrew the alternator

      @@RBTheMechanic GM didn't put any thought in maintenance when they built these vehicles. To have to pull/jack up the motor to remove a bolt is asinine. I just did this on an Enclave and it was a PIA. I removed the rear bolt and center bolt then tilted the assembly up to get a wrench on the bolt to remove that one. Seriously ridiculous.
      Who'd think to remove the headlight to replace a belt tensioner haha.
