- čas přidán 6. 08. 2024
- Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus is one of those great, albeit flawed, PS2 classics that never quite got the recognition it deserved. Sly is the third of Playstation's not-quite-iconic mascots and hasn't had a game since 2013. So, is the game worth playing today? Watch this review retrospective video essay are you tired of reading this yet and find out.

Dude i grew up with anthropomorphic animals with human traits in cartoons and video games, like, when did that become strictly a furry thing? Lmao
I don't think it's a furry thing either but inevitably any slightly sexualized thing shown to children will awaken fetishes in people. Carmelita is not nearly as, uh, "voluptuous" as Rouge the Bat or as well known as Lola Bunny but you get the point.
Not judging furries, either. They didn't choose this and they seem pretty split on the culture war, believe it or not.
I guess the hard thing to know is the intention, cus I've never played this game. And I actually made this comment before finding out that sly incessantly flirts with a semi-sexualized I'm assuming fox so idk if that's just weird fetish shot on full display on the writers part or if it's just a story thing. Either way people are always going to project their own feelings onto something like this
Idk, I never really considered this until recently tbh, I know I'm not a furry so it's not like these kinds of games/shows influenced me in that way lmao. I mean alot of people grew up seeing Lola bunny and don't have a bunny chick fetish I'm sure lmao
Since ppl started spending thousands of dollars on fur suits
@Richter So if I think carmilita is hot does that make me a furry?
Sly Cooper is my favorite game character of all time. I just love his charm and his aesthetic. The whole cast of the game was just designed so well from a visual standpoint.
You’re gonna love sly 4 :/
It doesn't need one. I'd rather have a new Sly Cooper instead.
And Gravity Rush on Vita or the first and second game on PS4.
@@outkastshadowking2719 What? You mean you want Gravity Rush 3? I'd be down for that.
Oh yeah Gravity Rush 3, I mean. Too bad it might not happen.
Agreed
Still waiting on Sly 5.
Honestly, the Sly Cooper series was super interesting when I got into it. A stealth platformer? Heck, I don't think I've heard that combination of game genres put together since. I got into Sucker Punches' games starting with InFAMOUS, and I think these guys are the textbook definition of dark horses!
Me and my dad used to play sly Cooper so much. After he committed suicide I felt a new love for the things we used to enjoy. Sly Cooper 1 is legitimately like a perfect game in my opinion. Even if I set aside my special love for it. It's just a great game. Great content though man. Legitimately your content has helped me through the hardest part of my early 20s and really just life in general. Your content proves to me there's other people who can enjoy but also be properly critical of modern games. Keep it up please man. You got legitimate fans out here.
Why did he committed suicide? Btw hope you ok.
You know my condolences but like wtf I’ve noticed a lot more comments like this of extremely depressing shit. Wtf is going on lately lol
Ha! Your dad is dead🤣
Condolences bro, I hope you're fine now
@@kvj1989 you have issues
This game was my childhood on the PS2 back in the day.
at this point im just about done with remakes and remasters. What we really need is new and original ideas, not to mention most remakes dont capture the magic of the original while not adding much of anything new or interesting aside from better graphics.
but you gotta remember that not everyone got to play these games. even if you were around to play them a lot of people didnt have every single console to play everything, and if you werent even born yet and you didnt have parents who had these games you never got to play them. i get the Cynicism for remakes and shit now, but i dont want that to just all go away because some companies get it wrong. We're not talking about shitty hollywood sholch who just do whatever. But im also down for new IPs and ideas, but thats only gonna come from indie games who usually never have a follow up to their games. A Hat in Time is great... where is AHT 2...? I like Freedom Planet, where's FP 2? Where is Silksong? These games just have their 15 minutes of fame and then fade away, then its back to our daily scheduled AAA cinematic block buster. There's no love for old titles like Sly Cooper anymore.
@@DarkSpyro707 Silksong is coming. We know the devs are still hard at work just maybe being a little too perfectionists. For Hat in Time I believe the devs have moved on to a new up I'm not sure. Freedom planet 2 though... it was announced a few years back but now might be dead in the water sadly.
@@thrallfan1056 Basically proving my point. Silksong is like meme now where Bannerlord use to be. No Hat in Time 2, and Freedom Planet 2 is ? This can be said for almost any indie game out there who's names isnt Undertale or FNAF. Thats why I feel these remakes need to happen, the market needs to be tested to see if people actually still like games like Sly Cooper and Jax and Daxter. Ratchet got a chance, when is everyone's turn? When can the new generation get to experience these games? When can the people who missed out experience these games?
@ThrallFan I rather have a full experience of Silksong than a half hearted game with less replayability.
remakes can be useful, i never got to play crash bandicoot on ps1 and the remake came out so i played one of the 3 games, same with spyro remake im currently beating the second game but it would not be possible without the remake.
I would love to see you review the god of war series and other sony stuff like uncharted
oh yes, and God of War 4 and Ragnarok
The OG trilogy for both GOW and Uncharted
The first Sly game I played was Sly 2, so I was surprised when I saw how linear the first one was. I'd like to see a remake taking on the gameplay of the other games with hub worlds and jobs building up for the big heist, like how Raleigh's level could still be about getting into his storm machine but the jobs would be more like sabotaging a barrier around it or shut down its power source, instead of just collecting keys.
I'm a bit surprised you don't like sly 2 more than the first one. For me it made the characters really fleshed out, story was great, gameplay was way better than the 1st one, had actual stealth and I feel open world works better for sly. The heist missions are up there with some of my favorite gaming moments ever! I'd love to hear your opinion on sly 2 since you like the first one more, not many people do so it's fun to hear a different take
Same the 2nd is the best overall in my opinion
Out of the holy trinity of PS2 mascots, Sly Cooper is my 2nd favorite franchise. Not only do I like these games for the gameplay and level design, but also for its story and characters (at least when it comes to the first 3 games).
What's your favorite Franchise?
@@dreel37 Ratchet and Clank
@@tigerash2061 Nice
Damn u really had that Carmelita r34 page on standby, huh 😂
These are, truly, my favorite videos that you make. It always makes me revisit some of my favorites. Keep on keepin’ on!
Love your reviews, duderino. Keep up the good work! I enjoy hearing your thoughts about the games you play whether you love 'em or just think their acceptable.
#jebaited
I miss these classic platformers, PS2 was probably the best time period for games. Graphics were good, but not good enough to rely on so you had to have a good gameplay hook. PS2 horror games were the best too.
The entire trilogy deserves the remake treatment just like the Spyro and crash trilogies.
And we can just leave 4 rotting in hell (a bit far but I hate that game to the core.)
Yes I love this game! Just played it for the first time ever a few months ago. Super solid platformer but with a LOT of annoying minigames imo.
I'm not going to lie, I love the third installment and it's my favourite. It definitely doesn't have anything to do with it being the first and only sly game I played for years back in the days on my old PS2
I’d rather we just got a 5th entry but if we do get a remaster/remake/whatever then I hope they update 1-3 with the Sly 4 designs. I’m still kinda mixed on Sly 4 but one thing I think it got right was the character redesigns. Like- damn do characters like Sly, Carmelita and Dimitri look great in 4. Especially in the 2D cutscenes.
Love to see more Sly vids man keep it up, such an underrated series that deserves more love.
Sly cooper is my favorite series of all time, Sly 2 is also my favorite game of all time. We need sly cooper to comeback it's been too long. sly 2 was my first game,We need a collection of all 4 games on the ps5 and of course a NEW GAME.
It pisses me off how 'little' they care about the IP,It has bother me for years.
Agreed Sly Cooper deserves better.
4th game ended on a cliffhanger therefore the series deserves a sequel.
I always got stuck at the crab shooting gimmick mini game. I never got past that. I was just a child though lol 😆
The sly cooper jazz soundtrack is unmatched by ANYTHING
Just the right amusement for my work break
Here early to like the video so you sleep at night lol! I was excited to see this, I love your retro reviews keep it up man!
He hath returned
found this right after watching your Spyro review.
this also is in my top 5 game series of all time. very underrated, more "simple" fun but cranked up a notch compared to Spyro. while also delivering an unexpectedly Deep (sometimes dark) storyline as well.
id say more than anything else these 2 series are what really got me into gaming as a whole. alongside tekken.
iv enjoyed plenty of other games back then all the way thru to today. but for some reason there are not many games that I would really want to go back to and just play to enjoy.
I have been making a tier list of all the games I have enjoyed over the Years, with a special tier for my personal best of the best. (out of somewhere around 800-1000 games I have played over the years). this top tier so far only has 4 game series in it. Spyro sly tekken and dead rising. sure I enjoy CoD and halo MP from time to time but for the SP experience they just aren't as impactful or unique. theres still hundreds of games on my backlog, including many hits people are adamant are masterpieces. the most recent example being persona 3/5, honestly surprised me how much I enjoyed those games. fallout 3 ignited a passion for open world and rpg games for me.
ranted long enough into the void.
enjoyed the vid synthetic man. would love to hear what you would consider a top whatever (5/10/20/etc.) game series of all time.
the first game was always my favorite i think, it was one of my firsts and i must've played through it a million times as a kid. i think sly 2 might be the better game honestly but the simplicity, the level design and the memories i have of the first one just solidify it as the best in my mind
This must be a coincidence I was searching for a video exactly like this one about one of my childhood favorite games and this was posted one day ago.. Thank You Gods.
Sly Cooper 2 was one first games for my ps2 when I was 5 and the first video games I ever played, from the soundtrack to the hilarious dialogue i could never stop playing it for hours on end. Definitely will always be one of my favorite games of all time and I agree completely this series either needs some sort of revival or a remake of the first two.
Sly is the best mission based platformer ever with a comic style art.
A review of my childhood fav on the ps2? That’s a subscription right there
We need the beloved simp back (sly cooper) and the once simp now a chad (bentley).
You can't remake perfection
Which is why Resident Evil 4 shouldn't be remade.
@@sirfrightmare4506 Which is why people should stop begging for soulless remakes of old games all the time.
@@JonnyHorseman Correct.
@@JonnyHorseman really sucks when you can’t play older games on newer hardware
@@zander4529 Buy a PC and/or emulate. Problem solved.
whats funny is that me and my friend were talking about sly cooper out of the blue yesterday, the same day this video was made it originally started from me talking about crash on the run.
I’ve played video games from every generation from ps1 to modern. But no game has given me the same joy that I felt when sliding down the train tracks or paragliding on and air ship in sly 2 or air battles or pickpocketing pirates or fighting sharks in sky 3. I miss them so much.
Sly is the most loved simp that we put the most respect on in the series. You can make an argument that bently also falls in here with penelope but he went from a simp to chad after the boss fight with penelope
Showed my brothers this vid because we were just having this exact conversation. Gaming is in need of something with as much charm as my boy Sly
If we don't get anything new, I'd ve happy with a legit good remaster tbh. Sly Cooper is in my Top 5 series along with DKC.
I never played these games, but I appreciate them making a stealth for kids. It's basically easy enough to understand, different enough to appreciate, and functionally a platform hazard. I know older people might see it as pointless, but it's a fun change. It even has that old school 1hp system that a lot of platformers shy'd cooper from.
Been enjoying your vids
I remember my uncle got a rachet and clank game with a free demo of one of the games and me and my brother playing that almost as much as the rachet and clank game
Damn its so lit your reviewing Sly. They NEED to do a remake or a sequel.
I remember playing the jak and dexter games as a kid and liking them but I don’t know if I can go back and play the sly cooper games
For me Thieves in Time is the best one, hell the best mascot platform game ever alongside Crash of the Titans. Non stop fun, sad that they're not going to make anymore like ever...
Only OGs remember this video's original thumbnail.
It does, man.
I hope you’re well. It’s been too long.
synthetic u r my favorite creator keep doing what ur doing
I remember a friend lending me his disc for Sly 2 and I loved it! The environments, the sound design, the climbing and the levels were just fun to go around. After having completed the game I would just go around and explore the levels again freely. Pretty much the same as KH2, when you have nothing better to do with your game and you're like, 12, you just go around for hours because the fun is just there.
Sly Cooper 2 is one of my top 5 games ever such an underrated masterpiece
That is my most nostalgic three franchise as well 😍
I loved sly Cooper as a kid playing with bentlys gadgets in 2 and 3 is burned in to my mind forever
I just recently found myself deciding for the first time ever to get on board with the PS now subscription and play all the way through sky cooper 1 and I didn't get all the way through 2. I did not realize just how intelligent and well composed their music and sound effects were, the finer details throughout the entire game makes it feel like to me that it holds up to this day a something worth playing. I also found myself enjoying every bit of the dialogue from start to finish and actually watching the cutscenes this time around as opposed to how I used to skip them as a kid. A remaster of the trilogy, fuck yes please.
Now that's a handsome thumbnail.
Never played this one. Might have to check it out.
Been playing The Sly Collection along with the Spyro Trilogy with my daughter. She loves it :)
Keep up awesome job on CZcams video really good too
YEAH it does, shall enjoy this one chief thanks for this
Now THIS is something I can get behind
The only way I play the sly games is on my vita, and they’re surprisingly meaty in content, I love the aesthetic.
Played Sly 3 on a demo disk with my dad as a kid and that was fun enough for me to pick up sly 2 as an older kid. Great game, not sure it really remained just as playable in 2022 but it's got style and the gameplay is fun enough that it definitely deserves to live on and not be forgotten
Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Jak&Daxter will always be lit asf. 🔥I'm so proud that i grew up with these amazing gems. 💪🏻
The fact that the PS4/5 port was at the most downloaded out of of the entirety of recent 'Classics Catalogue' will hopefully send the message that 2 & 3 will be ported, as well.
Man, I loved Sly Cooper back in the PS2 days. Unfortunately, my DVD was scratched and the game would always freeze after completing the Swamp level with the rhythm game boss fight (which I actually enjoyed, but I like rhythm games). And yes, the electric roll was fucking amazing.
I feel like the first sly game reached the same heights the first ratchet and clank game had in terms of music. Both games are outstanding the ost for both however is god tier.
I agree the first games soundtrack is my favorite especially the first three missions. The third game’s soundtrack is my second favorite
10:07 "SLY-gthly surprised"
ha😂
Ah man this game is my childhood. I love it
I have been waiting for a remake of sly for 7 years r s man
It is coming !!!
underrated game and underrated video
Game journalists are to blame for gimmick levels in games of that era. Back then, not having enough variety would mean that you lost 2 points on the review.
I still hold that grudge to this day ^-^ When you think about it, many games are now unearable to play because of them.
Game journalists have ruined video games because the dev companies care more about pleasing them than the people who are actually buying and playing the products.
SYNTHETIC HAD TO PULL OUT THEM MAGAZINES FOR 4 DAYS!!! SYNTHETIC THE LEGEND
U aren’t kidding about babies first platformer. I played this game for the first time and beat it when I was 3 or 4 years old
Beat this game not too long ago on Vita great timing
Totally drop that deathloop video dude.
Sly cooper the best series on playstation. I vividly remember sly 3 commercials when I was little
I still play the whole trilogy every year on the ps2 and the thief moves sometimes doesn’t work I always thought my circle button was broken because of it
I've been replaying the inFamous games recently and by extension it's given me a desire to check out the Sly Trilogy. I played the fuck out of Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank as a kid but Sly always alluded me for one reason or another.
This guy here, he's not bad
😘
You are very cool guy you got me as a subscriber
Personally most the thief sprints in the first sly game were very annoying I thought! Probably the trickiest aspect of that game too I feel lol
RPCS3 also announced that all the Sly Cooper games are playable on the PS3 emulator
i love sly cooper and his series is really awesome
As much as I would love a remake they would probably make the detective lady the main character knowing today’s society. Cause people look into things too even games about a talking thieving raccoon.
PREACH my FIRST game ever
I want to Sly to return in the shape of being rebooted and remade. Sly 5, Sly PS5 Remake/Remaster Collection, Reboot Game with the R&C Future Saga treatment taking place after Sly 5, and a TV and Movie are a bunch of Sly Cooper Content I want hopefully when we’re near Sly’s 20th Anniversary.
I also have ideas making an actual Open-World Sly Cooper Game where it takes place in Real Life Paris so it’s similar to Spider-Man and R&C: Rift Apart that way we can go to different countries around earth when we do heists.

Sly was and still is one of the best. Bentley is a true homie
Sly Cooper was by far my favorite of the ps2 era. Not a bad game in this series.
Do you know I-Ninja from ps2? Would be a good review
I loved Sly 4 my 2nd favorite only after Sly 2
Murrey develops as a character as you get into the sequels. He becomes braver. Making your opinion of him in the first game change. All characters develop as you go through them. It's a great series. Shame Sanzaru Games never got to make Sly Cooper 5. Thives in Time was pretty good. But it released right at the end of the PS3. So I don't think it sold well. It should of got a PS4 port. Also Sanzaru is owned by Facebook now I believe? So no Sly Cooper 5.
Sly 5 is rumored lately during the last ps event there was sly Easter egg but rumored early development idk who is making it but next year is the 20th anniversary so hopefully it’s confirmed next year
I loved these so much I got the trilogy on PS3 and platinum'd the mess out of it.
yes pls remake
I love the sly copper games so much I played the first one along with the first kingdom hearts
Thieves in Time's developers were bought by Facebook so, there's your answer lol
The sly cooper trilogy is fk perfect with the exact amount of evolution and fun platform with stealth mecánics related to platform so it dosent put you on sleep, damm man I love spy I like I lot the 3 one
Ayo that thumbnail change
Tsushima pretty popular? They got the John Wick director do to a movie for the game. And it’s massively popular next to God of war and Spider-Man. Which already had fanbases
