2009 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class. In the world of convertibles the Mercedes-Benz SL occupies a lofty position. From its luxurious appointments, robust performance and equally robust asking price the SL exudes an air of exclusivity and indulgence.
While previous generations of the SL projected a stately persona, the latest model skews to the edgier side of the automotive spectrum. More aggressive styling, improved performance and a continued focus on passenger comfort help the Mercedes-Benz SL carry on as a top-level convertible for those with discriminating tastes. This car is a beauty, I just love the air vents on the hood and the side!! Mercedes 4 Life!!
I have a 2008 SL65 and I love it
used for 36,000, got it with 12,000 miles. i bought it in late 2006. i really wanted an SL class but i couldn't afford it yet.you must have a really nice job
I'm happy Mercedes is making major improvements lately, and their future models seem amazing. I'm really a BMW/Porsche person, but I could see a Mercedes in my future (considering I don't get laid off).
This particular car that KBB had is extremely rare. You never see SL63 P30 in red over black leather. Usually all red models have tan interior!
yeah, very rare color combo, it's also the fire mist red metallic, they were trying to impress kbb I guess, sl63's in anything but black or silver are rare.
I have a 2006 Mercedes-Benz SL500. I love it. 0 to 60 comes up in my SL in about 5.6 seconds. I think the new SL does about 5.3. But I won't be getting another car until about 2018, so let's see what new high-quality cars will be out by then.
this car is so nice, you really have to see it in person to admire its beauty like I did at the auto show, just wonderful!
I have not. I was actually also looking at the BMW M6, though the SL500's hardtop convertible really impressed me. The M6 is faster and more powerful, though another reason I went for the SL500 is that I assumed that it would have great reliability. I've never had to take it in for maintenance. Before the SL500, I had a 2001 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG, and that car performed beautifully as well. I never had to take that in either.
More stylish and exclusive.
I don't mean in terms of technology (The S-class is better by far) but in terms of appeal and cache the SL is ahead of the S-class. That's why Mercedes charges so much for it, it appeals to more people on a broader spectrum. Hence my summation of it being more of a 'premium' car.
The SL-Class is placed about $8,000 above the S-Class. I think they should be the same price. The S-Class offers five seats that adults can use. It also has one or standard features (ex: voice recognition). On the other hand the SL-Class is a hardtop convertible. But it only has two seats.
the 2008-present Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is assembled in
Bremen, Germany
I guess KBB has not caught on that the body style has been updated for the SL. They keep flashing back to the prior model while talking about the AMG versions. The red SL that they are showing has the AMG bodywork. The Mercedes SL holds it value better than the Caddy and the Jag.
im gonna put them on my car. you can order the parts and they should come with instrutions, just make sure you order the bolted-on versions cuz you can change it back to normal doors anytime. or you can take the parts to the dealers and have them put it on for you.
i got my vertical door kits for about 600.00 bucks
some comments were made in regards to the older SL having the body stlye of the Mclarean SLR which is incorrect, in fact it is the SLK that resembles the SLR. The SLK is smaller then the SL, in fact it is not much bigger then a mazda m3. The SL is larger and more of a business mans sports car. the SL and the SLK are two different monsters filling different niches and both fine examples of Mercedes craftsmanship
now i understand
thanks for explaining it to me.. if i was given $100,000, i'd probably take an s550 and put extra optional features in it (ex: night vision, massaging seats, etc.) but you're right about the sl550
First off if you read my whole statement you would realize I was referring to the exterior design. And "Yes" the 2003-2008 SL Models are better in design however the 2009 SL engine is better because of the upgrades. If I were to make a repurchase I would buy the 2008 to keep the older design and shoot for the AMG for engine performance. I'm sorry to tell you this but if you ask fans of Mercedes-Benz which design is better the 2003-2008 or the new 2009 most of them will say the 2003-2008 design!
Did he just say light steering? I am sorry put the biggest thing for me in a performance car is the steering feel. The steering ratio in the G35 is almost perfect for me.
I work at Genentech as a Market Manager. My grandparents were very wealthy, and they gave some of their inheritance to me. Again, I won't be getting a new car for a LONG time. After spending over $80,000 on a car, you have to watch your budget a little more carefully.
Well, 12 years later….do you still have it?
This is a total players ride... anyone hating on this car be playa haters
boy do i love this review!! kelley blue book ftw!
I bought it used for about $83,000. It only had about 3,000 miles on it. (I assume the previous owner of it hated it, lol.) Even used, it smelled and drove new when I bought it back in 2006. I love it. It's a fun, upscale car. I won't be getting a new car for a LONG, LONG time. After spending $83,000, I'm going have to save up for my next car lol.
Did you buy your CLK350 new or used?
The car "WAS" beautiful, but i dont know?? The front headlights havent grown on me yet. I found the previous Sl a bit more luxurious and captivating. This car doesn't really yell out Mercedes, you have to turn your head twice to notice what it is. Over all the structure of the car was well made, its flared up to look sportier then the previous Sl. I think some people prefered the the previous Sl because of its uncanning looks imitating the Mclaren.
Why? It's a coupe/convertible. It's appeal is far broader and it is more exclusive.
The front looks worse then the previous year but the back looks better. But it's still a really nice car.
I couldn`t have said it better...right on, man!
i have a clk 350. the price ranges from 600 to about 3,000.i got the 600 kit just for a experiment. for better quailty i prefer paying a bit more. my friend bought a kit for his acura TL for like 1,300 and they seem pretty soild.
But it's Mercedes' top model and therefore the price should reflect that. It has always been desirable and doesn't depreciate like that S-class does either.
It's more of a premium car than the S-class too, despite the S-class' obvious 'advantages' over it.
Howitzer2015
Wow watching this in 2023 I feel like I just stepped into a Time Machine
Think its awesome looking the 2008 ..... my opinion ima get one no doubt
All he's saying is there are cheaper alternatives can can still deliver fine top down motoring and solid gt performance.
The only thing that this looks like a good value next to would be a continental gt or ferrari california, aston martin vantage/DB9.
$600? That's not too bad. I thought it'd be closer to $2,000 give or take. I'll consider it.
What car do you own (just curious)?
That's not too bad. I'll check 'em out.
What year is your CLK350? Do you like it?
Got One...
Love It...
Drove a 2003 SL55. Highly impressed. How long have you owned yours? Any crazy repairs or no?
Absolutely not.
1. It'd probably be too expensive.
2. Where would I go to get some? How could they applied to the car?
It'd be cool, but I think it's pretty unlikely. Does your car have vertical doors?
explain what you mean by "more of a premium car than the S-Class"
Really?! I knew Mercedes lost their quality but damn! I'll be sure to ever buy one.
Mercedes-Benz...THE BEST
Fabulous roadster
the taillights are the same in both generations
I wonder if it is possible to squeeze back seats in there if you move the front seats forward. They could only be accessible when the top is down.
i think people would be cramped back there if there were rear seats.
ic, have u had any expensive mantainence work on ur sl?
Why do they have the 2008 model at 1:20?
did you get ur SL500 new or used?
Just bought one for £15k it’s incredible
Eh well the headlights are growing on me but by all means, I've give anything for one of these, any trim, any color.
it's a 2006 model.yeah i really like it, when im driving ang getting out in public people stare at my car like it's a supercar or something.
There’s nothing comparable to the SL.
lol it is a car with good ride quality and great handling, though i wouldn't consider it a supercar
the clk350 is a nice car though, congratulations
@vladster7272 No they most certainly don't. But if we're talking about what people can do to your car then ANYBODY could scratch it/ key it/ break a window/ let the air out of the tires. And anyways, it's not like if I'm going to get a stupid convertible. And an SL 65 AMG is only slightly less expensive than a V12 Vantage. But all Mercedes from 2000-2007 liike the same as well. And the Aston comes with something called class.
Great car, But the porsche has a way better re sale value, But hell with this car would you really want to sell it?
Is tihs like a 2 seating cl?
Adorable !!
@skizzle94 How can you compare a 2 seater small car to big sedans? It doesn't make sense. Plus there's the fact that BMW sedans are better than Mercedes sedans.
Yeah I'm going to disagree these are about the most expensive roadsters out there.
I think they're worth the money, but you pay a lot for it. Not really good value as they don't outperform/outclass the competition by a large margin.
Compared to a bentley, aston martin, or ferrari i geuss you can see the value but that's like comparing buckingham palace to the biltmore mansion. "Value" starts to lose definition when you're dealing with cars that ooze with excess.
@suthernroyalty, But after 3 years, the Caddy and the Jag are not worth having..
agreed, the new design is a weird mix of the 80's look and the new sleeker design lanuage. It's horrible.
It's kinda stupid they say "If you want superior acceleration look to the SL63 and 65 AMG models"... I mean.. the SL600 is faster than the SL63 AMG. 0-100 that is. Rest I'm not sure of.
This destroys any BMW out there, anyone who disagrees should look at the hard facts and find out how ignorant and jealous they are.
The SL600 is more impressive the SL63, and a better buy for the money.
It looks better in anything but red.
WHY IS IT RED?! PLEASE GOD TELL ME WHY
to have that 3 stared emblem
hey ,have you thought about putting vertical doors on your sl500?
* I'd rather buy a Porsche Boxster or Caymann for around $60,000 dollars.
Then spend the extra money on maintenance, gas, oil, service, etc.
* With this SL, your just blowing a whole wad of money for whhat??? XD
I'm sorry but the 2003-2008 model design is way better than this crap. I am truly dissapointed in the new 2009 design. I am a proud owner of a SL and have several friends who own them. They ALL agree in regards to the 2003-2008 design being much more elegant. If I was to buy over I would upgrade to a 2008 AMG rather than getting a 2009 design model. Seriously it sucks
I work on Mercedes Benz's all day, many with keyless go, never have I accidently shut the car off on accident when trying to go into gear. disappointing review .
that girl at 3 minutes is HOT!!
@diamonddollarday Preach!
This car costs as much as the S class... It should cost less...
looks very cheap and lacks the quality of the 2003. although the 03 sl500 i owned was a piece of shit as is with most mercedes cars. i enjoyed for the little time it offered me. it now sits in my drive way. the drop top cannot be opened any more, and the transmission is slipping.
I am still waiting for a new Mercedes SL. This generation is too heavy and ugly. The interior hasn't been changed in about 10 years!
Then you drove it to your castle in the French Riviera then you made sweet love to your wife Eva Mendes....then....then....you WOKE UP!
That version, is only a face lift,
fiat ? :D:D:D
The facelift RUINED the looks :(
The old design is just flat out boxy and ugly. The new model is more sporty and looks way better in white!
GET A BMW OR A FIAT
Hot ride & Leg's !!
I hope the next generation will look much better. This car is just truly ugly! A Maserati granturismo is much better!
Fucking ugly car. I'd get a V12 Vantage. Or a 458 Italia, or an F430. Mercedes will always dissapoint.
