  • In 1980, director Evgeniy Sherstobitov directed a film that went down in the history of Ukrainian cinema as one of the masterpieces about the Second World War. Films with such themes are always poignant and complex, this film was no exception. The script was based on the story “Surf in Kotomara” by Boris Vorobyov; the Alexander Dovzhenko Film Studio undertook the production of the film and viewers saw it on screens on February 14, 1981.
In the last months of the war, a detachment of special forces sailors under the leadership of Senior Lieutenant Balandin receives a secret mission to penetrate behind German lines in order to destroy cannon installations and a sunken tanker and seaplane on the reservoir. The effectiveness of the landing of Soviet paratroopers depends on their operation. The detachment's fighters were given only a day to carry out the task, and there was no intelligence information. Already on the way, they understand that it is quite a difficult task, because in addition to the tanker and planes, they will now have to destroy air defense guns.
