  • Larry Zbyszko on the Ken Patera McDonald's Incident
"WWE Hall of Famer," final AWA World Champion and former WCW Wrestler & commentator "The Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko discusses the 1984 incident where Ken Patera and fellow AWA heel Masa Saito were denied service after hours at a McDonald's restaurant in Waukesha, Wisconsin which let to Patera throwing a rock threw the window. This let to a hotel incident with police and ultimately a 2 year jail sentence for both wrestlers.

It was Waukesha, WI. The McDonald's is 15 minutes from me and ive been to it many times as a kid. It wasnt just a rock...it was a boulder! When the cops arrived Saito beat up the first 3 including a 120lb woman police officer, then the 2 of them beat up 15 more.
The story of the kid and the rock is BS. They showed the boulder he threw on the local news. It was a solid 150lbs.
They were filming a commercial at the time and it was packed with witnesses.

I own McDonald's stock. This is an example of a poor manager. The McDonalds manager needed to be fired, and Ken Patera should have been given a $1,000 dollar gift card to McDonalds by McDonalds for being so stupid.

We were closed, both wrestlers were drunk off their asses but Patera in particular and yes he through a rock through a window because we were closed and he thought for some reason we should reopen for him. He then went to the Holiday Inn where the police responded and a female officer was permanently injured because these 2 drunk jerks decided it was cool to beat up on women. They should have received longer terms than they got. Over the years I've heard Parera talk about the incident and one, it changes every time he tells it, 2 he absolutely did throw the rock threw the window, i saw him and testified and 3 he's a freaking idiot and a drunk.,

Ken didn't lie. I do believe him when he says someone else threw the rock through the window. However, THAT ISNT' WHY HE WENT TO JAIL FOR 2 YEARS. He went to jail because of the altercation with the police at the hotel. Pitching a rock through a window would have not even given him a criminal record. People keep thinking he got 2 years for throwing a rock... no, it was the charges that came from the police altercation that got him the hard time. I wish people would get their facts straight as to why he went to jail. If the police showed up and merely talked to him, he would have got charged with some misdemeanor, had to pay a fine and the repairs, maybe some community service. He got put in the joint for battling with the cops. Which, if you chose to believe the various stories, the police handled the situation horribly and it escalated far more than it should have.

He was drunk, mad, etc.. sure he probably did yell his name and challenge them to come to his hotel. Ken was an ass when he was drunk. That still makes no reason for him to lie about the rock. He didn't go to jail for the rock so there is no need for him to "cover his ass" about it. A teen ex employee showed up and chucked it through while Ken was there.... the people inside blamed it on him, sent the cops to his hotel, and the rest is history. I know it is fun to think Ken threw the rock; however, that never was the case. Again, he went to prison for all the shit with the cops so he has no reason to lie about the rock throwing.

One story I heard was that the police went to the room and Patera told Saito to tell them he wasn't there. They were leaving and the person at the desk asked why. When they told him Patera wasn't there, the desk clerk or whoever it was said they saw him go down to his room and hadn't gone past them leaving. At that point, the cops knocked on the door and basically pushed on inside.

@@thomasswafford250 A male-female police team "pushed past" Saito? That's a story all right; and not very credible.
The newspaper reported that the police knocked on the door, and Saito answered; and then they asked a few questions and Saito started getting aggressive; they sprayed him with mace, and he just said something like "my, what a sweet aroma!" and then Patera came flying out, and both he and Saito double-teamed and bounced the police officers off the walls for five minutes, causing numerous injuries, until the male officer finally drew his gun; and Patera said "what, you're really SHOOT me?"
Meanwhile the hotel manager called the police, and backup arrived, with about 27 officers; and they finally arrested Patera and Saito. Somehow Patera only got four years for that, despite numerous injuries to the officers including broken bones and teeth.
And when Patera returned, Gene Okerlund just said "a rock was thrown through a window....." and didn't mention that it was a 350-lb. masonry boulder; or assaulting police-officers.

@@SovereignStatesman I have heard numerous versions of it including a cop reached for their gun and Saito grabbed their hand is all and got 2 years for that. Don't get me wrong, I have no sympathy for Patera or Saito. If I had been dealing with a situation like that, I'd had my gun out much earlier. It's not the police's job to put up with idiocy like that. the idea of him being shocked they drew their gun is amazing. He's a former Olympic weightlifter and the other an Olympic wrestler and the cops are suppose to take them on hand to hand? Both of them should have done much more time than they did.
