Lord Jamar on Lil Yachty: Selling 40K Might be the End of Him

  • Frequent VladTV guest Lord Jamar spoke with Vlad about Lil Yachty's new album, Yachty's continuing effort to be a "brand," and how Jamar reinvigorated his career as an actor post-Brand Nubian. "I was an MC, then I was producing making beats which a lot of people don't know. Then producing as far as finding a group like Dead Prez. Then I did the acting s**t. Then I did the voiceover s**t for ESPN. Now I'm managing Aaron Cooks," Jamar says, "You have to be ready to reinvent yourself, and you have to have a spirit of 'I'll never give up.'"

They just idiots compare to Platon , and let's not takin Platon because he's at the top , I mean take even a philosophers from the 50's/60's like Martin Luther King , or Malcolm X or Bukowski , and compare them level of talking , and compare it to people nowadays , to them so called "philosophers" you gonna be afraid how level got down , Im ean this just crzay how people are dumb nowaday...This is just crazy...

Aaron Garnett it stopped when people started seeing the dollar signs. It goes back to what Lord Jamar said with the Branding ect. It's seen by the youngins as just another avenue for money inevitably destroying both the culture AND standard of today's rap/hip hop culture. the fact that the younger generation enjoy simple BS with 3 words, mumbling and some generic grimey beat says ALOT. People aren't looking for the talent now, they looking for what makes the money and we all know catchy shit gets around like wild fire (too bad the majority of mainstream music these days are pure fucken shit either way). I blame it on Social Media honestly, too much BS to look at/watch that it's become the STANDARD for many people to enjoy bullshit. Too many kids with too much freedom and 'Yes men'. Hearing Lord Jamar speak....gave me an instant flashback to the Brand Nubian track "Don't Let It Go To Your Head". Every single word of his verse spoke about that type of person Yachty is.
"One Single Don't Make You The Shit". "Don't fall into the pit..of callin it what it's really not / This is just one single you got that's really hot" [ that part does NOT apply to Yachty, for obvious reasons ]
This Yachts shit is exactly why I been tryin to keep the knowledge of Rap passing on to every rapper I see. Young Ppl gonna end up givin these dudes praise for bullshittin with bars and having ( undebatable ) weak production on the beats.

I did and will continue to do so. I dont give a rats ass how much of a fan you are of his. The fact remains that Drake has been on top for 9 years which is unheard of in the music industry. There's only and handful of artist who have done that which places them as ELITE. Even 50 Cent hasn't seen a decade. He has been around for a decade but hasn't been top selling artist for a decade.

He has shown that he fucks with some of the new stuff that comes out of Hip Hop and even some of stuff he may not like he can listen to it and understand how it's a hit. Lil Yachty's "Teenage Emotion" is a learning lesson for new artists. FOCUS ON THE MUSIC AND EVERYTHING ELSE WILL FALL IN. Be popular for the right reason because alot these corporation dont know the difference between genuine interest and being a meme.
