Hope you enjoy this video! Timestamps: 00:00 Introduction 02:41 What is grammar? Prescriptivism vs Descriptivism 06:00 Do you need to study grammar? 10:06 Conclusion
Completely agree. Even though I really enjoy learning grammar, I can see why it is boring/tedious for some people. Sometimes schools (at least in Mexico) focus way too much into showing kids the way grammar works that it ends up discouraging them from learning since school is most of the time their first encounter with a new language (mostly english). Also, in some cases there is really no way to learn a language by a textbook lol, I'm a native learning my native language and you'd be surprised by how little resources there are to learn by yourself, the only way to learn is by a native teaching you or immersion (which is really hard since, as most indigenous languages, the number of speakers is constantly decreasing). Btw, the microphone sounds great!
The mic sounds good to me! I think this topic is really interesting and something I haven’t figured out my opinion on. Future Multilingual on CZcams just made a really interesting video where he talked about grammar being the map and the language being the actual terrain, so the map describes the terrain but incompletely.
Grammar gave me a lot of vocabulary, and then I started watching videos reading the subtitles, nowaday I can watch it understanding 90%. (I learned english and I am studying french too but I always stop and restart it).
Thank you for this! Grammar is so good for some but can really halt others so this video is more of a response to those who have been taught that the only way to learn a language is to memorise grammar points (which is how I was taught French for YEARS) but I'm glad it works so well for you. It's really hard to keep consistent in a language so I wish you the best in your studies!!
Always good to watch a video with good audio quality, and the mic sounds great! I do agree with you about the importance of grammar. Since I started to immerse myself in the language, I have been learning and understanding English better than in all the years I studied grammar (middle school and high school). However, grammar is still very important. By the way, I scored B2 upper intermediate on a few assessments. You have a point with all that. Cheers! Nice video.
