    Beautiful. Knossos is one of the many incredible historic sites in Greece with it's oldest historic layers dating back to 7000 BCE, 9000 years ago. Incredible palaces next to the cities of the bronze age period with flush toilets, drainage systems, sewerage systems, urban planning, unparalleled arts, natural airco implementation throughout, and anti earth quake technology by having wooden beams inbetween the structures to dampen the earthquake vibrations. Also this palace in particular would be home to 1400-1500 rooms, a courtyard and ofcourse the legendary story of King Minos and the minotaur.
    Other large Minoan sites include Zominthos, Phaestos, Palace at Malia, Zakros, Paleokastro, etc

      Very well said.The site is "rough",so a little knowledge beforehand is essential.The Minoan civilization is indeed the first European civilization.

      Ptolemy336VV - Amazing, I had never seen Knossos before on video, nor been there, even tho I’m Greek born, but I haven’t been to Crete. Wow, 7,000-9,000 BCE - just think, all of the thousands of generations that have lived & died since then have long disappeared, I’m proud to be Greek, what a history we have!! Whats up with "first" comments, both Nikos and Grovel claiming to be first are not actually first to comment. The first comment came from either Asad Khan or Joe's Travels. The video's duration is 11 mins and was uploaded only 8 mins ago. So none of you have watched Gabriel whole video but make claims which are not true. Watch his videos instead of making useless comments about being here first.

    Matala is the place for you. Hope you know about the hippies that were living in the caves there (up until a few years ago, they were some of them left!). Even Eric Clapton made a quick stay for 3 or 4 months I think. The city even today plays a lot with the hippie culture and aesthetic.
    Since you are in Heraklio, hope you visit the Archaeological museum, the second best in Greece after the one in Athens.
    And when you're having your dinner try some unique cretan dishes, like skaltsounia, boureki or ntako (ask the waiter to tell you what is what). Cretan cuisine is very characteristic and very healthy.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos

    • @Polychronisdrone
      @Polychronisdrone Před 5 lety +3

      Great that you have found the GoPro7 in Heraklion (at Kotsovolos?).
      If you drive to Matala from Heraklion you can stop at Festos (Minoan Palace) and at Gortys (Greek Roman capital of Crete). Be aware that at one side of the road in Gortys (or Gortyna) you’ll find the theater, the church of St Titus and the first written city laws, and at the other side of the road (in the olive fields) you’ll find the ancient city among the trees and the temples with colums spread all around the fields...

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  Před 5 lety +6

      I ended up getting the camera at Public which was pretty close to my hotel. I'm taking the bus tomorrow over to Matala. I got pulled over by the police on Karpathos when I had a rental car and they weren't happy that I didn't have an international driver's license. Luckily they didn't give me a ticket. But I won't be renting a car again unless I get that int. driver's license. On my do list for when I go back to the States.

    • @Polychronisdrone
      @Polychronisdrone Před 5 lety +4

      That is really a pitty Gabriel, because Crete is far too big to travel by bus. You really need a car to go for example to the beautiful beaches of Elafonisi, Balos, Falasarna or Vai... Well that will also end up on your to do list... coming back to Crete. If you are planning to stay for a while on Crete you can use my condo in Agios Nikolaos. Just let me know

    • @vetiverjohn8546
      @vetiverjohn8546 Před 5 lety +5

  • @Polychronisdrone
    @Polychronisdrone Před 5 lety +5

    Hi Gabriel,
    You should definitely visit the West of the island. Apart from the fantastic beaches (Elafonisi, Balos and Falasarna) and the beautiful cities of Rethymnon and Chania - there is the National Park of Samaria which is considered one of the great attractions of Europe as it is the longest gorge of the European continent.
    The majestuous gorge of Samaria is situated in the National park of Samaria, in the White Mountains in West Crete. You can take the early morning bus from Chania to the top of the White mountains in the heart of the National Park of Samaria. From there you can descend into the gorge and walk for about 6 hours. Even though the path runs downhill it requires strong, comfortable footwear and some degree of physical fitness. But it’s well worth the effort. At the end of the path, swimming, taverna lunches and picnics under a canopy of trees within full view of the Mediterranean Sea all await you. And there is off course a ferry which will take you back to the civilized world.

    Minoan culture thrived after the volcanic eruption of Thera--the date was revised to have taken place earlier and new evidence shows that Minoans continued on with life after the disaster. Mycenaeans occupied Knossos to about the 14th century, around ~1370 BC. They could have just been weakened and eventually absorbed by the Mycenaeans, their cousins across the sea.

    I was actually going to get a GoPro6 a few months ago based solely on seeing how good your videos looked (I liked the stabilisation on those). I hesitated due to the price, then the GoPro7 came out, and I finally decided to part with the $$$ for it especially based on the claims of supreme stabilisation quality. Haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet, but pretty impressed with what I'm seeing here from you - aside from a sort of jittery thing that seems to happen when (I assume) the camera is doing its harder stabilisation adjustments? Much better than lugging around/paying for a gimbal anyway IMO.

      Okay, good to know. I did actually turn up the volume by 150%. That's too bad it's still a bit low. Will crank it up a little more in the future.

    The GoPro 7 seems acceptable. A big improvement from your shaky old cam, but I'm not complaining since I enjoyed those voyages. However, there are tons of better cams for sure as I've seem much better quality clips on You Tube.
    I notice you're obviously a fast pace guy. For some of us, slower people, i would definitely appreciate watching you pan the cam slower as it takes more time for me to appreciate the nice places you try to show.
    I just like to emphasize the important thing is for me to keep watching more of your travel videos.

    Is the software stabilization as good as advertised or just vaporware? You could do a separate video to review your experience with the Hero 7. Many of your viewers would love to hear about it. Thanks.

      The stabilization on the 7 is epic. I didn't apply any stabilization in editing, so what you see in the video is how it was filmed. One little glitch is that I noticed it can be a little jerky when you're trying to pan across a scene, I guess because the stabilization is trying to counteract the movement.

      Hi there George, found your comment. Cool to meet you. Is it okay if I use the clip of us at the restaurant? I could include it and then if you really didn't like it I could edit it out of the video after it's been uploaded. I thought it would be a nice addition to have you and your parents in the video and also see some Greek seafood, since I haven't shown any seafood in my videos yet. I hope that's okay!

    It’s incredible to see in the comments that literally nobody knows that Evans constructed and paid painters to recreate his own idea of the ruins he found. Almost nothing is real at that site unfortunately. We are talking about 3000 years ago building, that was hit by earthquakes, fire and war. Just the fundaments and pottery and jewellery are real. The structures, columns and colours were done 100 years ago by Evans that recreate everything that was in his mind, he was in love with the history and was in the pursue of glory influenced by Shliemann, the German pioneer of archeology that found Troy. All the paintings are recreations painted after the original little fragments they found. All the structures are ideas of a palace (even there were builded three apparently over the centuries) that Evans had, I am sorry but they are not real, they are not standing there for 3/4 Thousand years. People should know.

    Since you requested from us to make comments on your new camera here goes mine.
    I believe the GoPro 7 enhances colors to an extreme; you get punchier results and postcards type of colors at the expense of a real life image.
    At the same time contrast is way too hard given you one more time a "wow!" kind of footage this time at the expense of shadow detail. If you pay close attention you'll notice that practically nothing can be seen in dark areas; it's simply all black.
    Having said that it was the same with the GoPro 6 you were using before.
    For those who like postcard kind of pictures (the big majority of people) it may be among the best cameras I've seen so far.
    Those who prefer a closer to the real thing footage (like me) should look elsewhere.
    There is a huge difference between being a portrait photographer and one that works for tourist companies brochures. The first type need extreme color precision with as perfect as possible skin tones while the second one needs what this camera offers. I believe for the kind of work you do this camera may be exactly what you need.
    Go Pro 7 claims to have such a good image stabilization system that they advertise the camera as a "gimbal destroyer". The image really looks very steady. I look forward to see some extra videos in which there will be severe movement (such as you filming from a bus, running to catch a train or staff like that) to be able to judge if their claims will be up to expectations.
    Take care and keep enjoying your trip!

      I completely agree with you. I find the GoPro to create an oversaturated and somewhat unrealistic looking image, which I'm not a huge fan of. I'm sticking with it for now because it does a pretty darned good job and it's just so convenient for this kind of filming because of the small size and durability of the camera, plus being waterproof and having the option of wide angle and various other features. I did make some adjustments to the settings which might improve the image quality a little, including being too dark in the shadows. It's at the same settings now that I adjusted my GoPro 6 to, so we'll see if that makes a positive difference.
