  • LdM recently won the tender for 2,000 square meters in the San Firenze Complex, which used to serve as the city’s courthouse. It has recently used the space for two of its student activities, ‘Acting Dante’s Inferno’, in collaboration with the Fondazione Franco Zeffirelli, and ‘Event Planning: Reminiscing the Renaissance’.
‘Acting Dante’s Inferno’ took students back to the roots of Italian culture and language via the work of Dante Alighieri, particularly his fourteenth-century epic poem the Divine Comedy. The lessons involved preparatory exercises to develop awareness, theatre discipline and cohesive groupwork, while the remaining hours were devoted to the study of some original Italian passages from Dante's Inferno, namely excerpts from cantos V, XXVI and XXXIII (Paolo and Francesca, Ulysses and Count Ugolino). The course was rounded off with the students enacting these scenes in the form of “living pictures”, in “The Inferno Room” in the museum of the Franco Zeffirelli Foundation.
In partnership with the Fondazione Franco Zeffirelli.
‘Event Planning: Reminiscing the Renaissance’ introduced students to the career of Franco Zeffirelli, with a particular focus on his 1968 film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The students had to organise a projection of the film and prepare a Renaissance-themed buffet to accompany it.
