Black Orpheus (Orfeu Negro in Portuguese) is a 1959 film made in Brazil by French director Marcel Camus. It is based on the play Orfeu da Conceição by Vinicius de Moraes, which is an adaptation of the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice, setting it in the modern context of Rio de Janeiro during the Carnaval. The film was an international co-production between production companies in Brazil, France and Italy. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
I loved it at first sight years ago...bought the VHS and still watch it today. That driving beat throughout is sooo powerful. Orpheus and Eurydice myth with a fabulous modern twist.
I loved greeque mythology, and specially that love story, love this story in Brazil.
Who was Hades and who was Persephone in the film? :0
This movie was my introduction to Brazil and the Brasilian culture. Awesome music, beautiful women a wonderful culture. Obrigado Brasil !!!!!!
Great film and one of my all time favorites. The lead actors were quite attractive and portrayed their roles quite convincingly. It's a shame that Breno Mello didn't pursue an acting career. He was quite handsome and possessed so much sec appeal. I applaud Mr. Camus for cetering the classic Greek tale on a black theme. Had this film been made during that same year in Hollywood, no doubt the roles would have gone to popular white actors such as Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
Sure, he was, and so was Marpessa Dawn. It's a pity American people and Hollywood were so racist..!!! They were stupid.!
How? Taylor and Burton weren’t even together yet.
@@namyarasree Which one of them is Marpessa Dawn?
@@ulzzangloverxD Marpessa Dawn is the lovely young girl dressed in white, seating with the little boy, as she's looking at other people dancing. Then you see her dance with Orfeu.
Mira was so beautiful..
Glad I’m not the only one who thinks so
My father is turning 90 this year, he was 13 when he was this in the theater 🖤
Now this is what you call a party
I saw this movie in high school. Great flick! I’m surprised it wasn’t released in the US with subtitles until decades later and isn’t well known. One of the best Brazilian films.
I just learned of your passing, Mrs. Léa Garcia ("Sarafina"). Rest in peace. Thank you very profoundly for the perfect performances! You'll always be in my heart!❤😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
This JEWEL of a movie is a reminder of why I take my vacations in Brazil... what time is the next flight???
This was Brazil in 1959. Saw Brazil in 1980 and it was still great. It must have changed, with awful Bolsonaro.
@@namyarasree Bolsonaro can’t kill the true Brazilian spirit
you're welcome my friend. Our human warmth and joy awaits you with open arms
@@ronny19488 Very kind of you.. thank you so much :)

Humans are so strange.. Wonderfull and depressing at the same time. I saw that movie when I was only a young teenager. Today at 65 I can't hold some tears when looking at certains scenes
Love this movie, first saw the movie in 1965 and still love it.❤
Stunning
Phenomenal 🎼🌍🇧🇷🎼🌎🎼
I've been watching Black Orpheus for many years now. Each time, I decovered a new symbol...
Black people are beautiful, and they know how to dance.!! Brazil had a reflection of happiness. Saw it in 1980. But it was Brazil without Bolsonaro...!!!
Brazilian here. Bolsonaro has gone and we are still unhappy with inflation and corruption
Tá melhor agora com o ladrão do lula né ?
This carnival puts New Orleans to shame,!! Ha ha

I love this game
Moreover, I learned (1) Mrs. Marpessa Dawn died. (2) Shortly after, Mr. Breno Mello met his demise. (3) Mr. Camus had married Mrs. Lourdes de Oliveira; divorced her. (4) And, married Mrs. Marpessa Dawn.❤😢

Oh yes the samba
"O nosso amor vai sere assim
Eu pra Você, Você pra mim"
Difficult to find version of this tune. There's one in bossa nova rythm but I prefer this quicker one.
All the women have really nice press jobs!
Who knows what the charm is called that the young lady is wearing on her necklace?
It is a figa....worn for good luck. Note that when her's is broken death catches up with her.
Also called azabache

@@poweroffriendship2.0 Whatever you say - I nailed it.
Arcade fire..... Afterlife XD
ahh, the rich culture of Africa on full display here!
Sorry sir, but this culture is from Brazil. This song and dance calls samba. Our country has a very large mixture of races. My father is black and my mother is white. That's what makes us beautiful.
There is nothing remotely close to white culture in this particular video clip.
