    I'm not a Karate practitioner. I do Muay Thai. But I absolutely LOVE your videos. The control, the crispness of the techniques, but most importantly the subtle details and how well you explain everything. You come out of these teachings with not just Karate lessons, but life lessons. I learned from many coaches but never a master. You are a true gem.

      The same could be true for 95% of martial arts. A high level martial artist would probably be adaptable to most untrained attacks, I say most. Also it is an art. If pure self defence is your aim mabey cross train and have a combatives type art as your main practice?

    I love your approach. Can definitely see the peng / expansive energy in your whole body emanating from the tanden. Plus, keeping the knee aligned over the ball of the foot is key, even when turning the hips and folding the kua (inguinal crease). Lots of taiji principles that are inherent in karate, but are often overlooked. Thank you for going deeper than the external!

    I just found this vidio, what I see Sense Hutton demonstrating are the fundamental principles, there are approximately 42 principles ,depending upon the system you are studying. The principles apply equally throughout any martial art system.

    Have very recently discovered this channel and Sensei Hotton. Absolutely hooked. Need a dojo etiquette question answered and would appreciate your thoughts. When lining up, does a new member ie only joined the club within the last 2 year but is a shodan have seniority over a karateka who obtained his shodan within the last 6 months but has trained under the sensei that runs the club? So for example when lining up the newer shodan is ahead in the line or is this totally at the sensei's discretion ? Oos

    One very important element in a good Teacher Sensei Sifu Lauzu is not only the Technical Competency (competencies), but the ability to clearly and concisely communicate with the students... Had both American (White guy) teachers, and 100% warm blooded Okinawan-Japanese-American Sensei... Both are 4th Dan... I'd learned more from the White guy Sensei by far...No racial whatsoever bias since I'm also an Asian...Hotton Sensei is a good teacher. Most of you can learn lots from him...
    By the way, what's with the really long Obi / belts that Karartekas like to wear? Short ones that Judokas and Jiu Jitsukas wear make more sense. They don't get in the way. Another thing is the extra-long legs on the pants with fabric sweeping the floor... Take them to the seamstress and chop off a couple of inches.

    I like this guy...but why do karate people insist on only defending against karate techniques?its unrealistic

    • @shanedarden5238
      @shanedarden5238 Před rokem +5

      80 to 90 % of people are not trained in any kind of fighting. So Karate should cover most of people's techniques trained or not. I've trained all my life and I know not to stand inside and box with a boxer. Or try to take down a BJJ guy. You also have to have a little common sense. Most of the stuff you see in these videos would become more instinctive in a fight. During class they are practiced with a more full range of motion. From what I see of sensei Cotton he really is top notch on everything he does. I'm going to say he can probably defend himself with Karate

      Why does evweyone think martial art is just mainly for fighting purpose .... sigh , appreciate the "spiritual-side" the essence of martial art..
      This in video is a demonstration , a witness to great innerstanding of body flow and mechanic, momentum, whiplash whiplike attacks amd movement. Its the Bend with the wind inner knowing he knows , I would love to meet him one day and share with my knowing with him about man hearth and heaven . How we pull energy from within from anywhere , we create at WILL. GUIDED DIRECTION WITH INTENTION.
