Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television programme broadcast by the BBC since 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called the Doctor, an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. The TARDIS exterior appears as a blue British police box,
which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. With various companions, the Doctor combats foes, works to save civilisations, and helps people in need.
Beginning with William Hartnell, thirteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor; in 2017, Jodie Whittaker became the first woman to officially play the role on television. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation,
a plot device in which a Time Lord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally. Each actor's portrayal is unique, but all represent stages in the life of the same character, and together, they form a single lifetime with a single narrative. The time-travelling feature of the
plot means that different incarnations of the Doctor occasionally meet.
The show is a significant part of British popular culture, and elsewhere, it has gained a cult following. It has influenced generations of British television professionals, many of whom grew up watching the series. Fans of the series are sometimes referred to as Whovians. The programme is listed in Guinness World Records
as the longest-running science-fiction television show in the world, as well as the "most successful" science-fiction series of all time, based on its overall broadcast ratings, DVD and book sales, and iTunes traffic.
The programme originally ran from 1963 to 1989. There was an unsuccessful attempt to revive regular production in 1996 with a backdoor pilot in the form of a television film titled Doctor Who. The programme was relaunched in 2005 and since then, has been produced in-house by BBC Wales in Cardiff.
Doctor Who has also spawned numerous spin-offs, including comic books, films, novels, audio dramas, and the television series Torchwood (2006-2011), The Sarah Jane Adventures (2007-2011), K9 (2009-2010), and Class (2016). It has been the subject of many parodies and references in popular culture.

I so love these movies. Especially the first. And I'm old enough to have seen DWATD when it first came out. I saw it at the Palace ,Erdington ,Birmingham. Many , many years later I learned that Anthony Barber one of the first TV21 "Win a Dalek" competition winners was presented one of the three given away (the red one) by the group, "The Applejacks" at that very cinema.

I remember entering a competition to win a full-size Dalek when I was 9 years old, and I'm still waiting for that Dalek-it's been 58 years now! Has it got lost in the post?

10:15 I got this for my 7th birthday, I loved it and I still have it. Alas my arse-hat friend, who didn't care at all about Doctor Who, decided to take it outside and he broke the gun off of it. I've also lost one of the dome lights since it fell off when I was moving it over carpet and it rolled under the couch never to be seen again.
I should note that I've talked to him recently and he seems nice, but when we were kids he was such a bastard.

I've got two Comet Miniatures Kit Daleks, which I built in July 1993. One is the Red Dalek from Dr. Who And The Daleks, and the other is a grey Genesis Dalek.

9:22 that wasn’t the only Dalek design Product Enterprise changed, I remember seeing a prototype 12 inch Radio Control Dalek that was in the style of the Dead Planet (1963) Dalek on my 6.5 inch Daleks’ box, it also had the correct 60s Dalek skirt! I no longer have the box sadly. (I think the box for the Radio Control Dalek was different too, however I’m not sure.)
I luckily have the original 12 inch Radio Control Dalek box, and on the back of the box, is a Radio/Remote control Davros, but it was a different Davros design, looking more like Terry Molloy rather than Michael Wisher! I don’t know if this is the same on the 2nd edition of the Radio Control Daleks’ box.

Hi Ozzy. I actually wrote the product enterprise weebly website from which you sourced some of this information and some of the images. I was working on photographing my entire collection and documenting all the product enterprise Daleks between 2013-2014, but when I got a full time job I never found time to finish the site. My research from it has been ripped off it so, so many times for eBay listings and other videos/websites so thank you for crediting it in the description!
There was also a first movie bean bag Dalek that was planned for release and scrapped when the company went into closure (as well as some awesome TV Dalek merch too).

Studio Canal didn't actually make the Daleks movies - they were made by Aaru Productions, which was really just Amicus under a different name (Amicus being almost as big a 60s horror movie studio as Hammer Films. Studio Canal didn't exist until 1988, and were then known as Canal+. They acquired the back catalogs of many different film companies, including Thorn-EMI who had released the two Daleks movies on VHS in the late 80s.

I have loved Dr who since I was a child, with Tom Baker being my Doctor. I ended up working on the show, some thirty years later!
The first Dalek toy I had was the talking Dalek, by Palitoy, for my 6th birthday. I still have it, working, in it's box. It's the very rare silver and black spot version too.
As a kid growing up the 80s I always wanted a Dalek toy that would fit my StarWars figure range, and even wrote to Kenner who made the StarWars toys if they'd make Dr Who ones! They wrote back saying they didn't have the license. But a few short years later Dapol release their toys, Which I absolutely loved despite being of suspect moulding! They re-released the Louis Marx Dalek, which was lovely.
Anyway, those Paradigm Daleks are as awful in real life as they are on TV. Nasty mistake! Haha!

Nice. There was other 60s Movie merchandise but only in limited supply. The beaker. And the swappit Dalek had a movie version that wasn't produced widely as the moulds failed. I own an example.

They were OK the 8 inch movie daleks but the skirts if anything let them down, too narrow and the rear half too upright, same with the 12 inch too which obviously ran through the entire range, if anything they suited the imperial daleks better with the new bbc 80s moulds for revelation / rememberance of the daleks with upright skirts at the rear end like the 12 inch one behind you, don't even get me going with the slats lol.
