  • We’re half way through our one year pilot project in partnership with CMA CGM Group.
It’s been an incredible journey removing 20+ tonnes of plastics from the remote Siyu village and helping to restore Lamu’s mangrove forests together with over 150 community members in engaged in clean-ups and household waste collection.
Plastics from this remote village, which would typically end up in the ocean or being burnt, are now being transferred to our facility on the main island for recycling. Waste from all over that has been chocking mangroves for years is being cleared and replanted in degraded areas.
Check out this video to see the impact we’ve made so far and we’re only half way 🙌🏼. Thank you CMA CGM Group for getting behind the vision!

Who are the worst plastic polluters in Lamu?

      The majority of plastics are
      - Plastic bottles (PET) from the hotels, restaurants and shops. We can't process them locally, so we need to transport them to Nairobi or Mombasa.
      - Magunia (raffia bags) which are used for transporting all sorts of things. Those are very tricky to recycle into good quality products, too - still researching and testing this.
      - Jerry cans/oil cans (HPDE) which are used for cooking oil, water or engine oil. These are great to recycle and what we mostly use for our boats and furniture.
And then there are obviously many other items like foils or nappies that appear in less volumes but are some of the worst as it's so difficult to process them

@@TheFlipflopi Make some videos about this - how to make use (or not) from the different fractions. I presume that could help to change the consumption?
