    Yeah it's way harder than this. You need to plan it out first. Eyeball how long the branch is to know how long of a cord you need. With an average wrap, expect to lose 10-15% of the cord length. Then, after careful planning and calculation, somehow wrap the tree without falling off a ladder or out of the tree, all while your wife stands down in the yard with her arms folded telling you you're doing it wrong.

      hahaha. I'm the wife and I'd be the one in the tree...my husband, the engineer, would be the one on the ground criticizing because he can't think outside the box and firstly-doesn't think lights should go on any tree but a pine type tree, and not outdoors but the indoor christmas tree ; D. But my thought was always going from outer part of the branch in-so you work your way down to the center and then down the trunk....wouldn't that be easier so you can adapt when you get to the most accessible portion? Also, can the lights be left on the trees year round? I know from experience lights on furniture and fences and such won't last because the sun dry rots them quickly....but the trees in bloom would protect the exposure...no? this is my first time stringing trees I've always wanted done

    Be sure to take the lights down after the holiday season. Leaving them up year-round will eventually strangle and kill the tree.

    Don't wrap the wire too tight...some trees "swell" a little when it rains. That will cause you some headaches if a wire breaks.

    Should a jumper cord be used when connecting multiple lights or can I connect 10 or more strands together?

    • @DisappearingBoy2010
      @DisappearingBoy2010 Před 2 lety +3

      It depends on how many amps the fuses in the string can handle. If you are using LEDs you can usually connect 10 or more sets of 100 together with no problem because each string of 100 is about .06 amps. For incandescent, I usually try not to go more than or 6 or 7 in one set. Each string is .34 amps so more than that, you risk blowing a fuse.

    • @ChristmasLightsEtc
      @ChristmasLightsEtc  Před rokem

      Incandescent works best for smaller trees or if you have a tight budget. LEDs you can string more together for larger trees and displays since they are energy efficient and they last longer then incandescent lights.

    How do you wrap multiple branches? Do you connect them at the tops or at the base?

    • @keith7820
      @keith7820 Před 2 lety +8

      Start at the base and wrap the lights around the branch using the desired spacing. Once you get as far out as you want to go, just go back along the branch toward the trunk, this time wrapping as few times as you can (just enough to keep the lights from sagging). Then go up the trunk to the next branch and repeat. Connecting lights at the ends of branches will look odd.

    • @ChristmasLightsEtc
      @ChristmasLightsEtc  Před rokem +1

      Run multiple electrical lines from separate breaker sources to support incandescent strands. If that can't be an option we highly recommend switching to Warm White LEDs since they use less power and can string more together.

      @@dj-rocketman8545 if you watch the video again she leaves the female adapter at top, if you connect another light, you can't just swing it to the next branch, would look ugly and would have lights all strung across or have extra wraps.
      You need to continue down making the same spiral as you did when you started going the same way back down then can continue to next branch. When coming to a y, do the lowest branch first

      Personal preference or seasonal themes. White is a standard that can look good all year while some colors like blue, red, or green might be used for only Christmas, Valentines, Hanukkah, or St. Pats. We love people getting creative year round!
