    Oddly enough, out of all the changes the show went through, I am most disappointed in the loss of the Brave Little Tailor outfit. The symbolism of Mickey as the tailor facing off against the dragon made the stakes feel higher rather than facing off already in his Sorcerer garb. As the tailor he is a wannabe knight rather than magic wielder. Sorcerer Mickey vs Maleficent feels more like an even match whereas Brave Little Tailor vs Maleficent is more like David vs Goliath. In the older incarnations he appeared as Sorcerer Mickey only afterward, making him seem more victorious and transcendent. He experiences an apotheosis into Sorcerer Mickey in the original show, whereas now he undergoes no change after the battle.

    Love this video. Honestly Fantasmic is one symbol of my larger opinions on Disneyland vs. WDW. Orlando may have bigger spaces and more variety and fancier setups, but everything just feels better in Anaheim. Not only because it has the better versions of several rides, but just because everything feels smaller and cozier and like you’re more thoroughly “in it.”

    I will forever love the end sequence. For me the highlight of any show at Disney is its music and I think most of the themes hit their peaks during the finale in general (as in whenever you hear a show's main theme play, its at its strongest during the finale part of the music with one exception) and that holds true for Fantasmic as well. The Mickey effect at the end is just the icing on the cake after that.

    We did the dinner package with River Belle and our seats were incredible.
    When the Mark Twain showed up at the end and EVERYONE was on that float… Esmeralda, Hercules and Meg, Robin Hood… I mean everyone… I admit I cried.
    It was so emotional. Maleficent as the dragon was incredible. Loved the Princess floats and the entire water show.
    Truly the GOAT of all Disneyland shows!
    I would just add one thing… show
    Walt’s face in the water projection right before Mickey says “some imagination huh?” and ends the show. That would truly be epic!

    I think they're missing a narrative thread for switching out Snow White with Tangled in the new princess montage. Because, in the original setup, since Snow White was featured in the princess montage, we transition to the Magic Mirror and the Evil Queen/Wicked Witch. It would have made more sense if Mother Gothel was there as the Wicked Witch made the zoom call to the other villains.
    But aside from that, the new refresh looks nice (kinda still have a soft spot for the og setup though.)
    A suggestion for your next video, Dan: you should tackle the literal Fantasmic on Parade that used to be in Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris: Fantallusion!

    A few years back I saw the Fantasmic for the first time at Disneyland and I was very excited for it because I’m a huge fan of the Orlando version. But I was pretty underwhelmed because it relied more on projections than having big set pieces. But that’s just the limitations of the stage area they have.

    • @ec1628
      @ec1628 Před rokem

      Not at all about limitations. F! 2.0 went heavy on projections and fancy glowing suits.
      I agree this was a regression. A huge set piece is more awe inspiring than any projection.
      It was also criminal removing the Peter Pan scene. Light years better than whatever the pirate scene is trying to do. And no huge crocodile! Big L for 2.0

    It's good at both WDW and Disneyland for different reasons. But the best part is that audiences in both coasts can experience Mickey's imagination and that sensational finale 😍

    Maleficent on the stick happens when the dragon is down. When did this new version with Genie come out? I love Fantasmic but I haven’t seen it since 2018. I went to Disneyland this year but no shows were going on yet.
    The images on the water are much clearer. I miss the Peter Pan version of the ship though :/

    from what i can understand fantasmic 2.0 has a brand new story line compared to the first version. The first one was quite literally a dream that Mickey had, but in this one he's discovering magic (imagination is still a big factor obviously). at the beginning, mickey is discovering his new-found magic and learning that his magic is limitless and all up to his imagination. he starts learning more as the show goes on, first learning about the natural order and the Circle of Life. Then there's illusions with the Pink Elephants, and then he meets the genie, and learns the power of wishes. This journey of learning more magic is also why we see him in his Sorcerer Mickey outfit. He then goes under the sea and learns about the natural order down there, and there's some throwbacks to the original show w pinnochio and the whale. then Mickey learns about curses with Pirates, and then the magic of love with the princesses, which is when he stumbles upon the magic mirror, which of course offers to show him more power. Mickey agrees and is thrown into the world of evil magic, which of course he fights back, gaining control and meaning behind his magic. finally, he has full control and we get the finale. i really love this new story they tell in the show, though of course there are things i miss from the old show, like the Peter Pan segment. this show means so much to me and i hope it returns to the parks soon

    I would love to see an Ursula evolution. Because she’s such a massive being, however they portray her be it animatronic, actors, balloons, robotics w/ actors, they give her some real over the top movements, because her entire lower half is usually just stationary and they try to compensate w/ large cartoonish gestures.
    I mean, giant balloon Ursula from Disney on Ice? That’s gotta be the best of the worst XDD

    BTW Steamboat Mickey was one of three Mickeys you could meet at Disneyland’s too. Town after going through Mickey’s house. It depended on which cartoon was “filming”.

  • @gagon1979
    @gagon1979 Před 2 lety

    You can meet steamboat willie in Toontown at Mickey's House (Pre pandemic at least). If/ when it reopens to full capacity, right before you go into the "movie vault" to get you picture taken you can ask the cast members to take a picture with Steamboat mickey and they will arrange it.

    The elephants are from Dumbo. You'll recall the scene where the carnival workers champagne bottle drops in to Dumbo's water bucket which Dumbo unsuspectingly guzzles. When Dumbo was released (1941), pink elephants was a common idiom for alcohol consumption, particularly alcoholism. When one imbibes too much they are said to have "seen pink elephants", which refers to the alcohol induced hallucinations that stem from alcohol poisoning. It is a rather terrifying scene in the movie meant to scare and remind of the dangers of drinking. I think it worked in my case, I had neon colored elephant nightmares for years as child.
