  • Eckhart explains the journey towards attaining inner stillness and the ability to shift focus away from one's thoughts, allowing one to fully embrace and be happy with the present moment. In this thoughtful answer to a viewer's question, Eckhart reminds us of what he calls the most important spiritual practice: bringing together the “vertical” dimension of Being with the “horizontal” dimension of doing.

My path began when I was around 26, at that time I didn't know Eckhart, just I felt that when I watched waving leaves in the wind, an immense sense of aliveness flowed in me, then continuously I felt I had deep love toward nature, then I found Rumi and his mystical poems and I felt how much my experience is near to his experience. Then I found Eckhart and he accelerated this spiritual movement in me. Now I'm 31 and during these years I feel the unitedness with the universe more and more...Some nights ago, I had a very vivid dream, I felt that I as a person dissolved and just a pure unitedness exists.

In one of the scriptures it say be still and know I am God. God which we are one with is timeless. When we enter presence we also enter stillness. With the stillness we begin to remember the Love that we are.

If you are able to listen in a state of present alertness, your stillness is there.
When you speak without preparation, speak intuition, from a deeper level.
    Bring alertness into conversation.
When you take action, normally you want to get there, and you lose presence.
    🦋🦋🦋🌷🌷🌷🌷🐌🐌
Honour the present moment when you do it. Physically take one step at a time in this moment.
Be present in what you do. Listen without thinking. Presence is in the background.
Realisation that you are unhappy and anxious when you have lost yourself in the mind.
Bring attention into your breathing and body.
Bring being into doing. You exist in both dimensions.
More challenging the situation, the more alert you need to be.
    Thanks Eckhart. 29 September 2023.🐌🐌🐌🦆🦆🦆👍👍👍💖💖💖💖

For me, stillness involves trusting this idea that it can't be understood. Thought is a tool. It's job is to make sense of the world, so it seeks to understand. If it can't compare what is known with what is unknown, it freaks out. HAHA! But when I realize that this tool is just doing what's it's designed to do, then it really doesn't matter if it has all the answers to all the questions.
The other night I had a dream. In my dream was a question about freedom. Someone said that freedom wasn't about doing, it was about being. And I asked, "isn't being an aspect of doing?" And the answer was: "Doing has limitations. Being doesn't." Thought focuses on doing ... figuring out what you're doing. It constantly searches for things to figure out. But if your attention is on just Being ... which invites stillness ... then thought can take a break.

The man had the same problems as me, using mind too much to analyze the present moment, always chatting about i should feel more and do more in this moment. It kept telling me that i don't feel the connectedness etc. But i also realized that it is all about the mind, just be aware and pay no attention to all those thoughts. It is always enough and the presence is to feel, not to think about and analyze. About the second problem, what i do is practicing to stay in the inner body. Doing anything, but keep a little bit of awareness inside the body. We just need to practice. Living slowly is better for all beginners like me 😊❤

Mind seeks to understand stillness. It can't understand it.
Stillness is peace past understanding. - St. Paul
Understanding involves concept which is thought.
Stillness comes when you relinquish the desire to understand the self and the world.
    🌿🌿🌿🌹🌹🌹
Most fundamental renunciation is renunciation of thought.
So you don't try to understand it any more.
"I am the only one who knows he knows nothing". - Socrates
Be comfortable with not thinking, not knowing.
    🌻🌻🌻🌲🌲🌲🌲🦋
Rising above thinking is conscious renunciation of thinking.
You no longer look for your identify in thinking.
Then the thought that arises is no longer contaminated by ego.
Deeper knowing then arises. You may not be able to verbalise it.
    Thanks Eckhart. 29 September 2023.💖💖💖👍👍

    • @pamchesler242
      @pamchesler242 Před 9 měsíci

You might want to consider checking out Jeff Foster (very down to earth) and Louise Haye…. I understand completely what you were thinking, and what you were trying to say, but there are a number of spiritual teachers who are extremely down to earth, and have the ability to take something that seems complex and make it simplified… being spiritual in the way that Eckhart describes is actually our true nature. We were just born that way, and then we got molded and are thinking and personality was formed by our parents and our schools and our teachers and so on…. now it is our responsibility if we so choose to go back to that in essence to seek out our true nature and our guides are now spiritual teachers, who resonate with us who we choose to listen to, and then we practice a new way of thinking it’s actually going back to what we should’ve been to begin with….. and the wonderful part about it. It doesn’t matter how old you are you can begin to totally rewrite your story at any given moment, but it does take some effort, but the very first thing you need is awareness that this is what you’re choosing to do most people don’t even come to that awareness they just kind of go through life, as they were taught, I know I’ve been doing that for most of my life and to my great relief. I woke up and became aware of the fact that it didn’t feel genuine to me….. so I experiment this by listening to so many different spiritual teachers, and I just took what resonated with me and there’s only a handful that I now listen listen to over and over again…..Eckhart resonated with me the year he came out with his book the power of now I was a teenager I believe, and it took me many many years to put it all together what he was trying to say in that book…. in fact, I still have to go back to it from time to time when I go off track….. but I find myself very fascinated with Jeff Foster. I think he is extremely insightful and I love the way he writes in the way he thinks he’s a very genuine soul I highly suggest you check them out.

This advice helped me so much in relation to when I am listening to other people speaking and how to remain calm and present without dismissing what they are saying, especially if the person is speaking nonsense or babble. I had a problem with this before where it used to trigger my mind into being judgemetal, but I have gradually learned how to deal with this because of Eckharts logical advice. I cannot thank this man enough. He is a true blessing.

yes, i noticed it the other day, so many conversations i would have with a certain person i realized (edit: from hearing Tolle saying it so many times, his message finally got thru & i saw how it applied in a 'real world' situation & circumstance..) i was instantly judging & not accepting the other person, not accepting how they are, how they speak or what they were even worrying about, because 'i knew' that their thinking was so obviously 'not right'...
      wow.
& when next we spoke, i paid attention to that
urge to resist, to instantly jump to conclusions & judgements, & just paying attention & allowing the other person to be, it's like they sensed it, even over the phone, & u know what?
we were laughing & joking & it felt so good, like how Tolle describes how u can sense the 'spaciousness'... around 'the problem'...and the problem was 'me', the mind, the thinking, the [voice(s) in the head] & all the imagery that goes with it...
      ...so liberating.

@@mindsigh4 That is brilliant to hear. For Eckharts teachings are so profoundly true, and if we'd all only learn to implement them we would all be better off for it. Though it does take practice. But once we learn how to accept people for who they are and how they think and also not to take what they say personal, then we've achieved a more confident approach to life and to others.🙏

I have been able to do what he talks about here in my life. Specifically, I was having an anxiety attack just a few weeks ago while sitting in my recliner on a beautiful sunny day when I wasn't at work, didn't have anything specific to do, and had been totally relaxed and unthinking. I read something that triggered my mind into the unknowable future. My heart started racing, my stomach started churning... I imagined myself in a very scary and uncomfortable situation.
Because I pray and meditate and listen to teachers like Eckhart, I recognized what was happening. It took me a few minutes, and only a few minutes, to stop it. I did what Eckhart says to do. I took a deep conscious breath. My attention was pulled away from my thoughts. I looked at my feet and they were not on fire. I looked out the window and saw it was a beautiful, warm, sunny afternoon. My heart slowed immediately, I was able to laugh at myself and be grateful for opportunity to practice awareness and stillness.
I stood up, got ready to go the beach on my bicycle where I knew my friends would be. I swam in the cold ocean, drank a couple of beers, enjoyed the conversation and the beautiful scenery and sunset.
Nothing that I was thinking while sitting on my recliner was true...all of it was a fantasy of my unconscious thinking. What a gift to know and recognize that and be able to get back to the NOW!
    Peace to you all!💞

The most important thing is to bring together the stillness and the being. The more challenging a thing is the more impt to be alert to it. Challenges are opportunities/invitation to intensify presence. If we Can listen with alert presence, we remain present. When we walk to the bathroom we can practice; thus the journey becomes as impt as the journey. When you're anxious, your mind is doing this. You've lost yourself in your mind. Realise the futility of this. Go into your breath and/or body, (scan), remove your from thinking. The pull will still be there. But practice.

I am now in this world but no longer of it. It’s like being on the outside looking in because everything here has taken on a different perspective. When you seek the desire to understand and then (instead) br still the answers appear …
I’m quoting Eckhart, and thinking about the fact that my desire to understand, always involves analyzing and analyzing and analyzing, and the more that I did so the further confused I got, and the solution kept moving further and further away from me, but then when I stopped, and just was still, I didn’t think about whatever it was, I wanted to resolve the answer came to me and the reason I was able to do that was because of Eckhart Tolle and his advice. I want to thank him for choosing to voice, and share his wisdom. He’s an invaluable soul, and I love him from one soul to another.❤

Hi Mr. Tolle. First I want to thank you for being here, you have been a big help for me. I have lived a somewhat isolated life, I believe I have begun a transformation intergrating "God", call it what you will/need into my heart. Last 20 years I have had some sort of - I want to say angel by my side, but my ability to be a ease and be present and accepting it, has only just happened now and it is a ongoing progress I in some ways hope never ends. I enjoy looking at everything in a new light and see all the facets of a situation fx. I am very thankful for that. Anyways... as someone who has lived somewhat like a hermit, I have some difficulty getting back to the world asserting myself. In some ways im sure that has to be my path, because I have a deep deep wish and desire to give back what I found myself, to share and reconnect with people.
I think im one of those people who has natural doubt in myself, but I thrive when I get thrown into a situation where I can help. How can I make myself more available for people who I can be of service for? Does that make sense? Greetings.

It seems like you've detailed an intricate journey into spiritual understanding and practice, encompassing concepts from mindfulness to consciousness. Balancing stillness with action and maintaining awareness during day-to-day activities are indeed profound practices. It's all about being present, recognizing the thought patterns that lead to discomfort, and returning to a place of stillness and awareness, allowing a deeper, non-conceptual knowing to arise.

This kind of transcends religion and belief systems.
Maybe this is something that we can never fully attain, and all we do is practice?
I ask this, because there does not seem to be an end point to our present moment awareness consciousness, and instead, it just deepens further?

That is why it’s called a spiritual practice because you have to or I should say, I have to actually speak to myself in order to be able to do what Eckhart is suggesting in other words I have to prompt myself to stillness. I have to prompt myself to awareness and that’s why it’s a practice you have to continuously, remind yourself to be aware when you’re becoming a egoic for lack of a better word you have to become aware of the fact that you’re for example thinking too much so once you remind yourself, “I’m over thinking” and “I need to be still” you are gently in essence , reminding yourself and guiding yourself back to your spirit….your authentic self…

@@XenosFiles I don’t believe that will happen with me because I think too much ! 😅
I truly believe that would be a miracle because I can remember being a thinker when I was a very young child about the age of three or four years old and it’s OK because I don’t mind the fact that I’m just aware at this point that I need to prompt myself does not upset me that I need to do so What you said is accurate very few people reach that level where you don’t even need to prompt yourself. You just automatically become that way. I’m not sure if it’s possible I wish I could actually have a conversation with Eckhart… but to be honest, I don’t even think he would know the answer to that either because he would have to be some type of fortuneteller…. and besides, if I ever had that opportunity to sit down and talk with him, it would be about anything other than spirituality believe it or not. I would just like to sit down and just talk with him about anything I would just like to get to know him as a person and not necessarily sit there and pick up pick his mind for solutions to spiritual questions that I might have it would probably be the very last thing I would want to talk to him about which I think a lot of people might think Azad I would just like to have a conversation with him about general things…. That is really my honest answer. Most people would jump at the opportunity to talk about spirituality and I would be the exact opposite. I be talking about anything but that….

When they said she was being unrealistic, she was dreaming bigger.

This moment is more important than what or where is next. When I’m into thinking, I bring my attention back to breathing and body scan and back to Now and sometimes alert stillness happens. It has happened to me to find or give an answer from a place that can be called Intuition or from Alert Stillness and usually it is the good or right thing to do or to say. Eckhart Tolle most grateful thanks for sharing your wisdom and, it goes without saying but I say it anyway, your compassion 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️✌🏼🪷🌹

🙏Thank you so much Eckhart! it feels so good to hear this that the search for the self in thoughts is not necessary and that it stands in the way of what is really the real self that lives in the unknown of our being. it's scary to let go to that level of being because it feels like I have to carry a whole different kind of responsibility and I can hear my thoughts saying things like but what if this is not the way? what if you have misunderstood all the teachings of the saints and self-realized masters? maybe you throw yourself out and it's completely wrong?.. I guess answers just lead to more questions and end up with knowledge without substance.
I wish everyone reading this and going through the awakening now deep peace and many blessings. .Namaste.

haha sometimes my thougts appear ony for a 1/10 of a second because i dont want to lose stillness xD. But it is enough for perceiving what my mind wants to tell. There doesn't need to be language or concepts in my presence most of the time to know what mind wants. BUT at work until now I always lost my awareness at some point. Let's see how my next job goes

I'm trying to practice Eckhart's teachings so that I don't need the validation of other people but here I am writing this CZcams comment.
Over the years, I have found peace with and tolerance for people who ask long, multi-part questions. I have my work cut out for me, however, in terms of finding serenity regarding somebody who has the hubris to not only shoe-horn a third part at the end that is simply a philosophical comment instead of a question *but also* to be so overconfident as to mention that he is sure it cannot be answered... thereby admitting that there was no reason to take that extra time to say it. I'm sorry for the negativity. I can't be alone on this. I don't want to be alone on this. Thank you for reading.

    • @XenosFiles
      @XenosFiles Před 9 měsíci +2

Critical thought is the flaring of your ego. It leaves you cut off and alone.
If you want to feel love and peace, forgive the questioner and forgive yourself.
      All our suffering is self-constructed.

One of the times I remember both experiencing and comprehending the concept of oneness of all things was when reading a text from Krishnamurti. He was explaining that when one sees a tree, most of the time, a person does not actually see, they just detect the concept of a tree as prescribed by language conventions. Truly looking means feeling on the tree's own terms rather than preconceived human ones. This then is a window to understanding oneness as we see that the tree is completely connected to everything else in the universe, so that if it weren't for language, we would be much more likely to see the tree as part of a gigantic whole.
Another idea that helps is from Thich Nath Hanh, where he uses the example of flowers, flames, and parents to teach the concept of impermanence of form but immanence of essence.

    • @aidalahlou6491

Funny how I remember physically feeling differently as I was reading Krishnamurti's words! A diffuse feeling of clarity and calm. I was 12 or 13 years old and yet I haven't forgotten it to this day.
