He is CRYING OUT for the Universe to acknowledge his presence WITH LOVE. It ties into his beliefs, here's a quote from 2008. "I am a songwriter,” said Townshed in a statement “I have faith in what I would call God, but I am not a religious man. I don't want to press my views on other people". ALSO BTW he was the first artist to contribute to Amnesty International, he's involved in charities and other philanthropic orgs and also drug advocacy. @@annother3350 HE IS! I'm glad that you get what I'm saying here about him and the rest of my comment. He's TRULY an awesome person when it comes to his philanthropy and his involvement with Amnesty International! He was involved with giving back and fighting for others long before Live Aid and all those other concerts came onto the scene. I'M an advocate for several decades. I also happen to deal with Amnesty International. I've received two certificate awards from them over the years for my work. Believe me when I tell you he's been down for MANY causes over the decades when it comes to OUR advocacy community! @christinegelabert1651 Před rokem +1

@@annother3350there's another part to this that ALWAYS hits me whenever I listen to this song. Some of my story is known here when it comes to my advocacy and my history with my ex-fiancees history. But I also had another ex-fiancee that this also related to this. They both wanted this song to be something we held onto because there were issues of separation. So when he talks about being up all night and thinking it applied to us. One was incarcerated for a long time. The other was a Marine who had finished his time. But then the Grenada war broke out. He decided to reenlist and was sent overseas. So I love this song for many reasons in different ways. BUT I have to say, even decades later every single time I hear it. IT STILL has the ability to bring me to tears. IT STILL is that powerful in a very beautiful but also in a sad way for me emotionally. This is truly a masterpiece as far as I am concerned. #NewYorkGenXBIKERLady

The finale to Quadrophenia....the culmination of the teenaged main character's journey from home life and partying street fights and drug abuse, getting thrown out, living on the streets, trying to fit in with his crowd but feeling awkward, searching for love, trying to make sense of the world while working menial jobs, raging at the injustice, then going off to the seaside land of his dreams only to find it's all a mirage. Even his hero turns out to be a lowly bell boy at a fancy hotel. He steals a boat and ends up stranded on a rock island in the rain watching his life flash before him while coming down off his drugs and alcohol. That ending song is a begging, pleading for love

The Who - It's about time you heard it. Just playing with you. So much great music in the world to hear. Actually I thought you would get to this already as it is in the realm of popularity. I like to recommend others that fall by the way side like ELP and Jeff Beck RIP. There is a story behind Jeff and the 2007 crossroads concert. He needed a bass player, somebody recommended one and this young little girl shows up at his door. It thought it was a joke -- that is until she started playing. Within an hour he was comparing her to the legendary bass player Jaco Pastorius. The would be Tal Wilkenfeld. He became her mentor and treated her like daughter. -- (Jeff Beck, Freeway Jam + Blue Wind, Live in Japan 2009 Feb. 21) - Freeway Jam - is just a little snippet at the end of the bass solo.

Wow, you picked up the meaning of the song on your first listen when you said it sounds like he's begging please reign on me. Love Reign O'er me is the last song on the album Quadrophenia by The Who which is a concept album/rock opera. On the album, the main character (Jimmy) is contemplating suicide. He came very close to succeeding. But his life was saved when he learned the most important thing in life is love. Hence, Love Reign O'er Me. Now thats how you finish an album! When the singer Roger Daltrey, recorded this in 1978-9 he was 35, and his voice was peaking, and was just about at its best. He still tours with Pete Townsend the only two surviving members of The Who. He still belts this song out, but now being 79 he can’t just quite hit those high notes. Not surprising really. But at hie peak, in my opinion, Daltrey was the best of the best of rock singers.

The Who was made up of four strong personalities which is where the album Quadrophenia comes from. Even within this song, you hear their personalities screaming.

No doubt about it, Jayy--The most operatic song of the Whos's career. Even a symphony conductor would love this arrangement--strings,piano, and powerful vocals that could even make Pavorotti go, "Dayyyymmmmm" Left ya speechless, didn't it? Great reaction and pick!!

The song is the culmination of the an album that documents the sad decline of Jimmy (the storys hero) mental health to this point where he finally loses faith in friends, fashion, music, his drug taking, realising that even his heroes had feet of clay. Everything he valued had crumbled away, and the song is one final plea to how things were. Realising they never will, it was one last cry as he takes his own life.

One of the greatest rock recordings of all time, from one of the greatest albums of all time. The movie Quadrophenia is worth seeing also.

"Love Reign O'er Me" is a great, fantastic song on it's own. But it has more meaning and depth when heard in context with the rest of the album Quadrophenia.

This is the story of a 17 year old boy who has just seen his first real love taken away when she cheats on him,in a cruel way,it's his angst and heartbreak exploding for his lost love and yearning for new love. But you have to know the album.
