A 1911DS with A TON of Custom Options Straight from the Manufacturer... and it takes Glock Mags!

- If you read the title, I was thinking the same thing when I first heard about the Stealth Arms Platypus... Glock mags, how good could this thing really be. Well like the old saying goes Never judge a book by its cover.
A platypus is a water mammal that lays eggs and has a duck like bill. It's unusual in the animal kingdom for these reason, like an impossible blend of creatures. The gun is a 1911/2011 style pistol that takes Glock mags. An unusual blend of "animal parts". It makes perfect sense when you think about it.
Thank God someone figured it out haha
Don't forget that males have spurs and produce venom !!
I am telling you the platapus is whats up. I have one its spot on
Same man these pistols are so awesome.
I've been debating on one.
@@eriklambert3809 I will say this I have that and a prodigy not sure which I like more... But I will say this either the plat or the prod are an amazing purchase if you get the prod go with the 4.25 one. But the plat is very very nice spot on shooting.
@shammone3333 my only fear is the metal mag catch may chew up mags. But maybe train with magpul mags and carry factory mags?
@eriklambert3809 nah it doesn't I have run the same 3 mags over 1k rounds through those 3 mags and zero damage period the aluminum is mad smooth
I received my Platypus right after Christmas. I'm working on getting it approved for duty carry at my agency. I modified a Safariland ALS Holster, built for a Springfield Operator with rails, to make it work. Had to heat the body of the holster near the grip to widen it out and removed the plastic section above the ALS release since it covered the nub. I love the way it runs! I'll be at SHOT next week and plan on stopping by the Stealth Arms booth.
Yep, exactly what I did, I want a 2011, trying to pick the one, I already have a ton of glock mags, and a major added bonus of personal customization. I can't wait to pick mine up tomorrow
Perry the Platypus is packing some heat to deal with Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz.
It's a Platypus because it's two different animals joined together in the middle. A platypus is a duck's bill with a beaver's tail. This is a 1911 with Glock mags. Very fitting!
I hope they offer a nitride finish or a anodizing finish to the pistol for those who dont like the cerkote options they have
I love tf out of my platypus, blew me away how fantastic it was
I am waiting for them to come out with a bull barrel model. Also an extended slide stop would be pretty cool.
Extended slide stop, is more of a want than a need. Bull barrel on this pistol. Not sure if that would do anything but add weight. This is not a true "2011" meaning a fitted pistol.
you guys have a phenomenal editor, great review, amazing editing and camera work
Those look INSANELY cool, I’d definitely want to get one of these for my “one and only” double stack 1911 style pistol. I would go absolutely nuts with the custom colors haha. Great content as always, much love from Texas!
It's not dolphin themed. It's perry themed, as in Perry the Platypus. And it was what initially got me interested 😂
The orange slide and Turquoise frame is a nod to Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb. 😉
Man .. I’m a big fan of Perry the … Perry was so cool of a platypus 😂 my kids thought so and so did I . I think I’m going to order that one
I love when a gun tuber says it is one of my Favorite 2011’s I have , the fact he has one is better than me but to say he has a number of them, I want to be that guy.
Now i gotta have this, thanks for this content….keep it coming.
Great pistol!! I love mine and the customer service is top notch.
Every time I see you shoot, I swear it looks effortless, it seems like you hardly are squeezing the gun. 👍🏻 it’s something I’m trying to do or learn.
Mine arrived Friday. What a beautiful gun, outstanding quality
Love mine, and seeing the new customizations they have now, vs when I made mine, I’ll probably buy another!
Great review, I’m going to look into this tool this week as a Father’s Day gift for myself. 👍🏽
You won't be disappointed.
Good video thanks! I held off for a while, but the multiple positive reviews, glock mag compatibility, RMR/SRO optic cut, and price point were too hard to pass up. Ordered in October so should be sent to me in the next few weeks. Glad to hear they are moving forward the updated grip texture hopefully bull barrels and different finishes are something they will open up in the future.
I spent days designing mine and my wife's Platypus's. Both are way overboard on colors. Hopefully they will be shipping in the next few weeks
I had my doubts early on, especially in regards to reliability. Now I have 18 plus builds on their website, and I am seriously considering one... or two. I am impressed. Looking forward to the 2024 updates to the frame, and, the bull barrel options before I buy.
These first showed up last yr at shot show now they're gaining traction
The one you shot in the video is almost exactly like the one I purchased. I have a couple of thousand rounds through mine and like it a lot. Might order another one, one of these days.
awesome video definitely gonna have to grab one
Check the Humble Marksman review.. he gets the platypus joke.
This video cemented my decision to buy a platypus.
I’m going to checkout your website for a holster
i really like that newer texture. Thats what I was hoping for to order one
It’s called a platypus because it an animal made of parts that don’t naturally go together. Like a 1911/ double stack that takes Glock mags.
Od green platypus then call you for duty holster ideas. Great video as always.
thats a good-looking pistol. congratulations on them making a good pistol.
I shot this, a staccato c2 and p, and an atlas when I got my last 2011. I ended up with the c2 (comped, aimpoint, etc…) as I felt it was the best middle ground, but the platypus was a great contender for the money
Really cool content👍
Its a combination of 1911/2011 and glock mags. The platypus is a wierd animal with parts from multiple animals. Thats why its called the platypus. The "Miami Dolphins" colors are in honor of perry the platypus from the show Phineas and Ferb.
Agent P rocks!
I'm guessing he liked the toon Phineas and Ferb. They had a secret agent platypus named Perry
As soon as I saw your favorite on the table I went to the site to find that grip option. It wasn’t in the site when I bought mine. I hope they bring that grip back as an option or other grip texture options. I’d like to buy another it’s honestly my favorite gun right now.
I am going to visit the booth at shot show to get some ideas on what's coming. I will be sure to drop some posts on the Rdrgear IG page.
@rdrgear I can air rack stock plastic fantastics It doesn't mean the gun is under sprung generally it's just easier with a lighter spring
Looks awesome…I’ve seen a few platypus reviews, and I was also initially skeptical about the Glock mags. But reviews have been great…just wish I could get my paws on one
I agree seemed odd, but my Glock mags run as good if not better than 1911, CZ, 2011, Canik, S&W, or Taurus mags. I ordered a bit ago hope it ships soon.
Skeptical about Glock mags? What are you on
Tisas is coming out with several double stack 1911s
Stay America 🇺🇸
Buy American 🇺🇸
@therealrobinc not another buy America comment, that so stupid. What device are you typing on
We transferred in a Platypus for a customer a couple of weeks ago, I regret not taking a pic. It was Miami Dolphins color with some other Perry the Platypus accents.
here’s the review I’ve been waiting on! Is it or is it not worth spending my cashapus we shall see 🍿🎥
Oh wow, I've been mulling over one of these, but now I will wait for that new grip !! Did they give an estimated time of release ?
Ordered one today!!
Details bud?
I've got a few color schemes right now on the site, just a matter of picking and paying for it.😊 Cheaper than a Staccato but still mucho money. 🤑 So take your time, make sure you order right.
I want one but I want the new grip texture 🔥
Great video i just recently found out they are an Ohio company. Im looking forward to talking to them at Shot Show and hopefully I will get to meet you in person and shake your hand.
I love my Platypus. They are super legit pistols and their customer service is excellent.
What color is the grey with the red trigger??
I see a new grip design in this video!
I would love to have one.
I ordered 1 in November. I'm pumped about it. Still waiting.
Did you like the "finger groves" in the grey frame you shot in the video vs. The flat grip?
Ordered mine November 7th it came in on 1/19/24
😂 air racking my infinity right now. I'll let them know they screwed this thing up
Have any of you owners tried a comp yet? Recommendations??
dudes got about $19K worth of Platypus on that table alone. sheesh....
True. But they were on loan from Stealth arms. They have been great to work with.
Can we get your thoughts and review on the oracle arms 2311??
That is one sexy looking gun…for myself I’d rather see a comp instead of the threaded barrel but it’s a great looking pistol!
I hope they do a P320 mag version. Also, need a bull barrel option for the platypus. Needs it. Even with an upcharge.
I think they are
Great video! Their website does not work for me though. Customization button leads me to a message saying the site couldn’t be reached do to inappropriate/scary images. Please help.
not a Miami Dolphins pistol, its Perry the Platypus from a cartoon... its a character from a kids cartoon, Phineas & Ferb
Do you have a panel van with no windows
Or maybe they have kids and/or maybe he grew up watching it as we both don't know their age/life?
@@HWG-wm8ld nah... got kids that used to watch it..
I must have one!! I honestly didn't know 1911 Doubble Stacks existed...yeah I admitted it
Which two didn’t fit the safari land holster? 😅 I ordered a 5” threaded platypus with a ambi safety, I know the staccatos have an ambi safety so hopefully 🤞 the 6354 works.
I LOVE everything about this gun..... Except the name. Still want one!
I actually like the name. It's different and it makes you talk about. I'm excited to see what they have a shot show
I'm in I ordered 2!
Any one comped one? I have several built on their sight and ready to add to cart. Just wondering about the comp?
A 4140 or 4330 steel frame not aluminum version of this pistol would be nice. The added weight and toughness of the steel will be welcome.
Perry the Platypus!
You should do a follow-up after SHOT and ask them about proprietary holsters, because its slim pickins out here
I may have missed it, but do you have a recommendation for a owb or iwb holster for ccw , for the 4.25 commander size ?
Lax concealment and teir 1 make them.
Please test fitment in all your Safariland 5" and Modded 2011 Holsters
Well, Tisas beat them to the bull barrel...not out yet but MAC has a 4.25 optics ready and i don't know if these are bulls but the Tisas website shows 3...2 5s and a 4.25...all double stack. Still though, got my red, white, and blue Platypus configured.🇺🇸🤘🇺🇸👍🇺🇸

@therealrobinc Nah. I'm going to buy the product I want. Remember, what you are typing on wasn't made here.
@@chrisferguson1911 Using the example of electronics just shows how foolish & ignorant you are by comparing apples to oranges.
@@therealrobinc No, American made to American made. If you are gonna stand on that soap box, you better be willing to buy ALL you own from American workers. Period.
Appreciate the content!
Platypus with Glock mags
OR Oracle Arms with Sig mags? The OA compact is $1800 and interchangeable magwells to make the grip full size or compact. Also the debris clearing channels is a cool feature but the 320 is more of a proper angle compared to Glock so it be nice to see them compared.
the platypus doesnt have glock angle despite using glock mags :)
but the 2311 DCC, gas pedals from factory, FULLY ambi controls and takedown from factory, and linkless takedown is nothing to sneeze at. I want both of them tbh
Do yall do holster modifications for Beretta 92's with optics (safriland)?
Not possible the beretta does not have an ejection port. So the design does not work like other pistols do
They are nice.
Please link the holster you have that works with the 5" Platypus. Thanks.
It will fit basic 1911 railed holsters if you have a rail and 1911 holsters that don't have a rail, the one you need is a round trigger guard. If you have the square trigger guard a 2011 holster may fit. The type of railed 1911 I'm talking about is the ones you'd see on the M45A1 or the colt combat unit rail 1911. If you go with the shorter ones, he just said that the staccato p holster will fit for it
Also the name of his channel is literally the link to the site, and you may not need cause if you buy or order a the platypus with the half rail version or non railed version with the round trigger guard and needs to be 5" (that's what she said) it will fit most 1911 holster
What brand is the tourniquet holder mounted to the front of the holster?
centrifugetraining.com/product/holster-accessory-mount/
What safariland holster
Maybe Crispy wanted Commander Cody armor colors in the Platypus...
What options do i pick if i want a safariland holster for x300, ACRO, full size threaded barrel?
All of your options will fit the standard xc mod we offer. Just have to specify the threaded barrel n
I trust Glock, I love 1911’s can’t wait to try this.
What length is the silver platypus with the red trigger and SF X300?
5"
Platypus has been used as a duress code in certain situations.
Learned that in Air Force basic training a decade ago l ol
9:20 Grip texture and guide rode were the only things I didn't like about the gun. Did they say anything about a time shrame for that version to come out?
Doesn't appear to be out yet, I just looked on the site and still has the standard grips they've used since they've released the pistol. I'm sure like 100% sure they'll release this year I'm hoping cause that new grip looks clean and seem to have a better texture and grip compared to the standard one, it also looks complete too
What about the guide rod don't you like? This is the second 1911 I've ever owned with one, and while I did remove the same style two piece guide rod from my Springfield Armory 1911A1 Loaded to put a normal plug and short guide rod in, it's not a deal breaker and the guide rod comes with a rubber washer. No issues with it loosening up during shooting for me so far. There are options if you want a "toolless" guide rod like the Dawson Precision, but really that's an easily changed item. All it really does is add a little front weight to the gun for recoil reduction.
These guys just make excuses for everything. I imagine they shoot leas than cops.
U like cool shit too, Rattler Lt and Stealth Arms. Great taste
You said in the video at 10:45 that these firearms come with one piece guide rods. Is that standard on them now i have been looking around the internet and can't find a definitive answer. Everything i have found so far shows they are two piece guide rods like the Springfield Prodigy you have to unscrew them during the takedown process.
These were sent to me. For review and sent back. My advice is email them they had some upgrades at shot show that should be hitting their website this month.
Are any of this modern holsters able to hold a weapon, without a light. I have a new Echelon, need a holster accepting a weapon with a red dot but without the trendy flashlight carry. Can’t get a respond from any source. Great video.
All the “duty” holsters I’ve seen are made for lights. My safariland works with or without my light attached on my staccato. Carry holsters can be found with no light capability. Teir1 and LAS concealment have what you need.
Check out Red River tactical holsters. I have a couple duty style holsters for other guns and they are very nice. Waiting for my echelon duty holster from them. Kydex is the 0.125 and very robust. Prices are good as well.
Good luck with that. As you can see in this video and most others on CZcams. The “tacticool flashlight on the gun in broad day light” phenomenon has taken over the gun world.
@@peterquinn2997I'm not sure about you, but I actually use my firearms, which can and often does take place at night. Not to mention, PID is a legal requirement for self defense in every state.
You folks find the weirdest shit to complain about, never ceases to amaze me.
You’ll never need a light for concealed carry. It’s a trend for sure. So a guy car jacks you, you gonna ID him? He is robbing the liquor store, you gonna ID him? Trying to take your life at the fuel pump, gonna ID him?
I want one my next gun
Great soundtracks music funky who is it?
Have you shot the 4.25?
I wonder what the recoil impulse/barrel flip is like with a 4.25+bull barrel - compared to the Government length
I have. It's a little snappier but not horrible by any means.
@@rdrgear was it 4.25 with Bushing or Bull?
I wonder if the Bull barrel paired with some slide cuts would give more weight up front and counter the snappy
@@iBlinkTVChannel if I remember correctly. It was a bushing, the bull barrel to my understanding a new offering as 2024.
@@rdrgear thanks for the feedback and your content 🤙🏽 I’m hoping to build a few templates and show the brand to a few friends
If it's anything like my 4.25" Prodigy, it's negligible.
Is a bull barrel better than a bushing barrel? I’m planning on ordering one but don’t know which one is best
Depends on use really. If you run a lot of rounds like competition then the bull is better. If you do standard drills or have it for self defense then bushing is fine. Bull barrel should also be a little more accurate as well.
should also add a little weight to calm the muzzel rise.
Go bull no reason not to.
I’ve been leaning towards getting one for a while now
Bet you never will
Do it. Very worth the price
With the flared Mag well does it accept all mag extensions?
That's a good question. I will ask this next week at shot show.
There is a pretty big subreddit on these. So far it takes almost all mag extensions with the magwell.
What was the exact holster you were showing in the video? Thanks!
Check his website out. Safariland
@@HWG-wm8ld of course it’s a Safariland but which model. They don’t have stealth arms as one of the models for the holsters.
The same that fits the staccato
I use the 6360RDS for the Staccato P for my 4.25" threaded Platypus+ x300u. Only thing I had to do was pop out the plug in the bottom of the holster and it fits like a glove.
when they going to make it in .45 (w/G21 mags)?
That would be hot
Right now. It's real.
I spoke with Tim a couple months ago and he said they are working on a 45 and a 10mm. If they can get them to run as well as the 9mm apparently does, they will be a hit.
For the few rubes that want 45/10.
a *TRUE* 2011, in the lord's caliber 🤣🦅@@TheLegoJoker
When's the new texture being released?
My guess is SHOT show
What safariland holster works with this pistol?
I have the 4.25" + x300u and I was able to use a 6360RDS made for the Staccato P. I just had to remove the bottom plug since I'm running a threaded barrel.
The 4.25 platypus fits the 4.1 safariland staccato p holster?
Haha, I referred to having a “metric shit ton” of something the other day and a half dozen or so people started laughing as they had never heard that. I thought I was the last person on earth saying that.
I'm guessing you were talking to a group of younger people. I love that phrase!
Big time want for duty carry. Wish they had ambi controls (I’m a dirty lefty).
Looks like they have an ambi safety on the site now, not sure if the mag release is a sticking point for you though ...
You can get a left side mag release
I love the idea… but as a grown man with hobbit hands I hate that every double stack 1911 has a full size grip.
I want a commander length barrel, grip size that takes G19 mags in that platypus style. I’m holding off on all the 2011-style because they’re all full size frames. I don’t want an officer size tiny but a G19 size that takes G19 makes. None under $3k.
The grip width would be the same. 19 or a 17 mag. It would be shorter in length.
