It was nice to see someone actually listen to the song, thank you. When he was talking about the gun his granddad gave him he said "but one day they are gonna 'round up". He meant the government was going to take everyone's guns away. Robbing us of our god given right to defend and protect our homes and families, to hunt for our food, etc. These video clips are not just from the US, eight of the scenes come from outside the U.S., including Germany, Canada, Spain and Ukraine. For instance: the woman flipping off police officers happened in Berlin.

"Our own" = My community, like minded people with similar values as me, my family, my friends, my neighbors, that lady down the road that I wave to on my way home from work every Thursday. If I saw someone.. um.. "trying that" on my way home on Thursday, I'd absolutely stop and "recommend" a thing or two.

And if somebody came to our town to rape, destroy and loot, they would find a big line of us, shoulder to shoulder, with guns drawn to defend our town. So "Try That In A Small Town" means this is what will happen of folks mess with us. Plain and simple. Nothing racist. Whoope Goldberg started that shit. She's as racist as they come. In the lines where he says 'round-up', he's speaking of the feds coming and confiscating Americans' guns, not him rounding up friends to go do some nefarious white crime. And the line 'take care of our own', he's speaking of how a small town's people have each other's back. Race has nothing to do with it. Many would be surprised to see how little someone's race has to do with anything in smaller communities.

In the lyrics where he says, " Gotta gun that my granddad gave me, they say that one day their gonna round up..." I interpret the lyrics meaning as saying the United States government is going to try and take their guns away. Jason is implying in the lyrics that they will not take them without a fight. The gun is sentimental because it belonged to his granddad and he is no longer with him.

Aldean has good reason to be sick and tired of the violence playing out across America. He was the artist performing in Las Vegas when the largest mass shooting in American history happened. A shooter perched above the crowd in a Mandalay Bay hotel room decided he was going to play 'fish in a barrel' with the concert goers. Aldean's pregnant wife was just behind the curtains backstage when shots rang out killing 61 people. People in small towns, like ours, don't play those games. Going anywhere now is risky. Be it a mass shooting or a riot, the violence is something we should ALL be pissed enough about to speak up.

The best way to look at this song is what would you do if strangers came into your house yelled at you, punched your friend, and set your couch on fire would you expect them to face consequences for their actions or just let them go. What if they did it to your family, your neighbor, your community it's not about racism it's about facing consequences for your choices and the need to reform the sense of community because in our time of need it's the people in your lives that will help you more than any stranger or government.

Thank you for your open mind on this video. One of the negative comments some people mention is the term "good ole boys". They paint that term as only whites are good ole boys. Most people that have a problem with that term are from a large city. If you talk to people from a small town, you find that everyone goes to the same high school and all races participate in sports and etc. What you find is that most, unfortunately not all, blend well. In fact, talk with young men that go to war together on the football field. Everyone is considered brothers. Keep up the good work.

This was filmed at a Courthouse in Tennessee where there was a lynching in 1927. I believe Jason Aldean made this the set of the video because he was angry about it. All of the rest of the video is real news footage during the BLM issues; however, notice it's the white people making trouble -- I'm white and will always be disgusted by how they act. It's SO WRONG!!!
This song is the ringtone on my phone.
This is an amazing song between the cities and the small towns. I grew up in a very small town (in the country) with many races. We were a community. No one saw color, race, religion - we were simply a tight community - a family. In fact, I was in a severe car accident many years ago, and my friends (of every race who we used to ride in the back of pickup trucks in high school) saved my life over 25 years after we saw each other last when we graduated from high school. I went to college, and they became EMTs, firemen, state police, and local police -- however, they recognized me immediately and (most importantly) saved my children's lives and my life because they had known me since we were five years old. I'm sorry, but that wouldn't happen in a city - but it does in a small town.
Everyone had each other's backs in a small town. There won't be violence; however, the violence that took place in the cities would have NEVER taken place in a small town. There would have never been any looting, damage to property, stealing, etc..... because everyone has each other's backs in a small town. We protect each other. We don't see color or religion - we're family.
    I love this song.

We loved and took care of each other. I didn’t see this division of race until I moved to the big city and then it seemed to be more the media than the actual people even in the big city. God bless us all. 🙏🇺🇸

I live about an hour from where they recommended this video in Columbia TN.
There is nothing about Jason, his song, or this video that is racist.
Some Karen out there did research on the courthouse and found out that a black man was hanged there way way back in history. But sadly you will be hard pressed to find a courthouse in the south where that hasn’t happened. Was it right? Hell NO! But Jason was not aware of the history of the courthouse. He only chose this particular courthouse because it is in his hometown.
I never researched the courthouse history in my small town. The only history I know about it is because they used to do a civil war reenactment of the day the courthouse was burnt down. Which makes no sense to me. Only in the south do they celebrate a battle they lost. But whatever floats their boat. I’m originally from California. So I am not southern, even though I am from southern California. 😂

I grew up in a 5 generation small town. Everyone knows everyone knows who your grandpas was , so if someone hurt one of us, yea you don’t know what you’re doing. True im from a small town in Mississippi. A white drunk plowed over a sweet colored lady. That had been Moma to everyone. White men dragged that dude out of the car and before it was over,he was begging for someone to call the cops.

In most small towns in the USA! Being racist is antiquated and unacceptable. A hurricane hits, a house burns down and your neighbor loses everything? The small town town does care about race! We don’t always get along, but when tragedy strikes? We bury that! Small towns have neighbors bickering, having arguments, etc. We get our neighbors through that hard time! Even if we can’t stand them personally. And once the storm passes, and our neighbors are made whole again? Then, and only then do we start arguing again about stupid stuff like property lines, fence maintenance, loud music, etc. And it does not matter if you blue, purple, or green! 💯

I live in a small town. And we don’t give a F what color your skin is .. when we say we take care of our own.. it means our community, our neighbors, our business owners!! ( our own don’t mean us white people ) it’s means every single person in our small town! White , black, brown, green , purple , blue or green… we are all one in our small town communities!!! And if watched closely.. in one part take care of our own.. the children were of both races .. as the world classified it. But in a small town . We are all the same race . The human race !!! And in my small town .. it don’t matter what tone of color your skin is .. white , black or brown.. we all in camo . Bc we all hunt and fish . It’s sad bc I am country as cornbread and tatters !!! Always in cowboy boots.. and a lot of the world judge us as racist bc of the cowboy boots and cowboy hats … but most of us country boys could see white ppl jumping on a black man , woman , or children!!!! And believe it or not . Most of us country boys will help the one being jumped .. We don’t give a F if it’s other white ppl doing it to a black person.. bc at that time.. it’s not about color .. it’s about right and wrong.. and jumping a man bc the color of his skin is wrong . And we would go against our own bc it’s just not right in no ways … and 95 percent of the ones in cowboy boots and cowboy hats.. we are yes ma’am yes sir … pull over on the side of the road and help anyone .. no matter color .. bc we had it drilled in us to be good human beings to all humans . Bc to me . There is only one race in this world.. and that is human race.. we are all humans and all bleed the same color . Red … the one that made this video . If he lived in my small town.. he needed help at his house w work on his house.. we all help. He lives in my town.. he is one of our own… that has nothing to do w color … it all has to do with us all living in the same small town. So we all the same. Our own community family

Couple of things. The verse about his GF's gun. He say's one day they say they're going to round up. He's referring to the Govt. coming to confiscate gun's. Next when he say's we take care of our own he means his neighbors, his community. I'm from a small town. We have all races here. We may have different cultures based on our ancestry, but we share the small town culture where morals matter. Someone brings trouble into our small town and we all stand together. White, Black, Brown, doesn't matter. What matters is what's in your heart and mind. If you come here to disrupt our way of life....well I suggest you don't.

I live in a very small town (5,000) people. I was born and raised here. We are a town of all colors, my friends growing up were all colors. There are unwritten rules in small towns. We support our country, we say yes ma'am, we ALL stand together no matter the color. We lend a hand to those who need it. In small towns you can still sleep with your doors unlocked, partially because we're all armed and we all know it.

He’s at a county courthouse/ jailhouse in his town I think it’s Columbia Tennessee. War back in the past in 1927 a man was lynched by a mob at that courthouse/jailhouse, they said he attacked a woman even the woman couldn’t identify the lynched man as her attacker. At the time Jason’s crew even him didn’t know there was a lynching there. That’s the controversy there but the theme was you may get away with situations in big cities but in small towns you can stand up for your neighbor respect your flag. That’s just my opinion…. No racism noted in the song or video whatsoever….. so 95% of the song video are news channels the videos

Take care of our own means the entire towns takes care of each other regardless of race, color, background, etc. We see family in small towns in cities you aren't as close with your neighbors. If city folk were to try and bring the violence to a small town that small town would stand as one and defend themselves and their town and businesses and homes.

When he says "Got a gun that my grand dad gave me; they say one day they're gonna round up. Well that shit might fly in the city, good luck; try that in a small town." What he means is that Democrats are constantly talking about gun control and taking away people's guns. So when they say they are going to take away any gun, let alone a gun his grand dad gave him that holds sentimental value, he's essentially saying people are gonna start dying real fuckin quick to some gunshots if they try that shit in a small town. Essentially robbing them of something their grand dad gave them.
