  • In this video I give my reasons for not lowering my Nissan 350Z and we do a comparison between lowered and stock height vehicles.
    The vehicles in the video are both 2006 Nissan 350Z's and both are on 19 inch wheels. One car is lowered 1 inch compared to factory ride height.

    Just lowered my 350z. It’s been 2 weeks and I am going to go back to stock suspension. I have been scraping on every little thing. It totally makes the car very difficult to drive. I can’t even take it through a car wash because it’s too low. Great video.

    I'm am jealous of your clean and rust free undercarriage. I moved to Nashville from Chicago and my undercarriage is very rusty. I also did not lower my Z. I do plan on matching the Nismo wheel and tire setup of 18's in front and 19's in the rear. I think this will close a bit of the fender gap in the rear while maintaining factory suspension specs. Keep up the good work. I find your videos very beneficial!

    Makes perfect sense man. When you alter one thing then everything else becomes a money pit. As long as you have the suspension as close to stock.. the better the handling. I had to go with good springs and bilstein shocks to eliminate excessive camber and tire ware vs coils and like you said geometry. 👍

I was wondering to lower my car as well but because it is my daily drive you made all my point (+ some extra ahah) so it was pretty persuasive, don't want to spend the money to maintain once it is lowered as well !

    I would never have lowered a car. destroyed bumpers, ruined exhaust, bumpiness, wear out tires faster etc. A car can be lowered with "high quality" parts if it will spend most of its life on the track. drive a lowered car in some public roads in TX and the first pothole will show you who is boss.

      @MotordyneG35 Před 7 lety +1

      I concur, function over form anyway. Your $800 coilovers ride very stiff and have aggressive drops; pretty stupid to drag your car across the ground. Rolled fenders mean you will eventually get rust. If you want to keep the stock height, ride way better than stock in terms of comfort and get the performance of a coilover there is a solution. I own it and I'm speaking from experience.
      KW v3's give you 0.4" to 1.5" drop. So under half an inch drop, you will not drag or scrap on anything. Please see my channel and video of my in mint condition Motordyne Shockwave exhaust if you want proof. Not many coilovers give you both better ride in comfort and ride in performance than OEM. KW does though with many testimonials on the web to back it up. Plus they come with a lifetime warranty.

Previous owner had Neo Gen on the front at 245/35/19 and for the back 275/35/19. next day I shopped around for tires and kept the same Nitto Neo Genz brand and size front and back. But i did notice the wearing away, the rear tires inside are down to the steel belts. I wanted looks overall and bought this setup because it has been said it can be close to Stock feel and I can get that Low Look I was after. Well, I was very pleasantly surprised I got both. Slammed Zs look nice, but aren’t street-able. The Z is meant to be driven. It’s a driver’s car. If you can’t negotiate a speed bump or driveway during typical city driving, then you’ve effectively neutered your Z. I’m running stock ride height and plan to keep it that way.

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  Před rokem

      Ya the 350Z already comes with a pretty low ride height from factory. I don't think people realize this and as soon as you lower it, it starts scrapping.

      @@AnthonyJ350 so true. The Z I purchased was lowered 1-1.2” on Tanabe coils when I purchased it. During the test drive, I couldn’t even crab walk it over speed bumps with two adult men in it without scraping. I got a better look under the car after purchase and the exhaust system was scraped/dinged pretty badly as it sat the lowest. Even the heat shields on the CATs were pushed in a bit. Also, the factory struts prematurely failed with less than 50k on them due to the lowering springs. Needless to say, I swapped out the Tanabe coils immediately for OEM. I also have an 06 Revup like you. I love the Revup VQs. You’re video/opinion on this subject is spot on.

      Another thing to add about lowered Zs. It makes using ramps nearly impossible without scraping the front bumper. Even low profile jacks will have clearance issues reaching the center jack point at the front. This will make oil changes and other general maintenance a major pain.

    Great video. I concur, with ride height. I too was going to get bilsteins, the B6 or B8 I think with springs. I"m just talking from experience here, there is a solution for people like us who do not want aggressive drops. It is KW v3's. They are the only coilover that ride better in comfort than OEM and have way better performance. You are also able to adjust compression and rebound independently. Most coilovers make you drop it at least an inch, not KW. The stats are:
    Front Lowering: 0.4" to 1.5"
    Rear Lowering: 0.4" to 1.5"
    Under half an inch drop, you will not drag on anything. I do not drag on anything and I drive way too fast to worry about scraping my Motordyne Shockwave exhaust.

      I was thinking just like you, I really wanted Bilsteins. The B6 or B8's. Remember, your OEM suspension has sag in it right now. I saw a bunch of BMW owners who got the Bilstiens on OEM springs and were complaining the car was raised up because they did not realize old suspensions have sag. I did my own research to confirm sag. I was very happy with my OEM sag, it was like 3 fingers. OEM is 4 fingers. Then my back strut blew and it was unsafe to drive. Any bump, the car would sway pretty bad. So I had to make a choice, the Bilsteins or go all out and get the KW's.
      I did the install myself and in my video, you can see how the blown OEM strut stayed stuck. The rod wouldn't even move. I realize KW's are not cheap, but when it comes to how the car rides, it is everything. Just giving my feedback on my decision, they are worth every penny. Plus a lifetime warranty, based out of Germany, but service your parts in California.

    Making it sound way more complicated and hard then it really is. My z is pretty low and never rubs, wheels are within stock specs and rides better then the stock suspension did...

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  Před 4 lety

      You must have new bushings and camber kits in order to make the suspension adjustable to get it back to factory spec. If done properly with the correct valves shocks you could get it to ride pretty good.

    • @bfrankz3332
      @bfrankz3332 Před 4 lety

      Well the only thing thats off is the front camber a bit as its the only thing you need aftermarket to get back to spec. Camber. (Adjustable uca’s). But toes are all able to do with coilovers at all four corners pretty much any low.

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  Před 4 lety +2

      @@bfrankz3332 You'll need adjustable rear track and camber arms if you're trying to dial in the suspension at the alignment shop (depending on what you're setting the car up for). But then you can set the car up and save the settings and change it depending if you have a track day or take it to the mountains.

      AnthonyJ350 thank you so much! Youre an inspiration honestly, i love the set up without lowering! Im 18 and in school so im on a budget here lol, so do you recomend a cheaper wheel thats simple and nice like yours?

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  Před 7 lety

      Jose Martinez Aww thanks! I recommend going with a wheel company who has been around for a while. You don't need the most expensive wheels. If you want more performance, leave the stock wheels and look into General G-Max tires, great value with a lot of performance.
