Godspeed Buddy Baker!
Buddy Baker would eventually commentate on races on CBS along with Ned Jarrett, who interviewed him at pit road.
RIP Elsey Wiley "Buddy" Baker
37:22 - That new kid Bird is mighty good. Wouldn't be surprised if they start winning championships in as little as a year or two. Look out for Earvin "Magic" Johnson, though ... he's got the Lakers playing WAY up-tempo from what they used to do.
R.I.P Ken Squier
pity the race ended on a caution but this race will remember for all of the right reasons is the speed
It was the same type of weather the year before...Baker and Waltrip and others fouled the plugs up. You see them covering the grills trying to get the oil temps up.
RIP
Yo, where did you find this footage? Oh my gosh 😂
Does anybody Know where I could find the 1980 Daytona Sportsman race or any of them?
not anywhere as entertaining as the ,79 daytona 500 but far better than the pack demolition derby anti southern crap by far y all
r.i.p. buddy baker and brock yates great men gone but not forgotten
What up with the 60 that keeps popping up in the top left
your feeble attempt at trolling and being a grammar nazi are for not, and so damn random
You would probably have to ask the original uploader why those numbers kept popping up in the top left hand corner (the same thing happened with the '81 race while it was up), but from what I ascertained, it may have had to do with the conversion process he used to get it on his computer in order to upload it from there. But that's just a guess.
Fastest 500 Ever
The record now stands at 202.402. I watched both of them when they happened.
HODIUSDUDE
He’s talking about the fastest speed averaged through the whole race pits stops, cautions an all. 177 mph
The last 500 before the cars downsized a little
1:12:43 - Part of the race is cut out at 46 seconds. Cale Yarborough is leading, then suddenly Bobby Allison is leading by a considerable but quickly shrinking gap over Buddy Baker and Dale Earnhardt.
Since it finished under yellow, this wasn't a good race, right? [/biting-sarcasm]
S8DEWALK university. His name is on my 88 Chevy Silverado
Buddy Baker was a great racecar driver.
At 6 feet 6 inches tall, Baker was also nicknamed NASCAR’s Gentle Giant
