  • In today's video, I inaugurate the latest addition of bespoke shoes to my collection from Canons, the new firm that took over the assets of famed west end shoemaking firm Foster & Son. Continuing their 180 year legacy of crafting the finest west end bespoke shoes, Canons is pushing new boundaries in the bespoke shoemaking trade.
    These shoes were crafted on my Foster & Son last, one of the most comfortable of all my bespoke shoes. They have been an absolute pleasure to wear, a pair that truly epitomizes the best of bespoke: unparalleled comfort, supreme elegance, and exceptional craftsmanship.
    Every pair of new shoes -- even a pair of bespoke shoes -- needs to receive a proper shoe shine before being worn for the first time. Most new shoes are not polished before leaving the factory, leaving the leather dry and without any of the protective waxes that shoe polish provides. A proper shine wakens the leather and prepares them to be worn!
    In today's video, I am exclusively using Saphir Medaille d'Or Shoe Polish, which is widely considered the best shoe polish in the world, and the kind of polish that one would find in a bespoke workshop like at Canons!
    📌 Upcoming Canons United States Trunk Show Dates:
    📍Houston - 30th and 31st May
    📍San Francisco - 1st and 2nd June
    📍West Hollywood - 3rd and 4th June

    When working on the carrier flight deck every now and then we needed to put a shine on our boots. Glossy Black spray paint worked fine. Thought that would be a funny fact.

    Saphir cracks! No kidding! My can is in little chunks by the time I finish the can. BTW another method of getting wax out of the broguing is to gently insert a tip of a toothpick into the holes and gently move it around. Works like a charm.

      I would recommend looking at some other brands Allan’s used to be spectacular but their quality has really fallen off since they changed hands a few years back. They have started to cheap out of many parts of their shoes and boots like the liner, heel stacks, vamp and stitching

    I’ve been following the channel since those early shoe shine videos. That’s how I learned to shine my shoes! 2 questions for you: 1) The polish doesn’t damage the shoe laces if you get some on them? 2) You mentioned you shouldn’t use the renovateur on suede or Chromexcel. What about nubuck leather?

    Hi Kirby! I have a new pair of Allen Edmonds Carlyle in black and I have managed to get some kind of water spot or stain on the left shoe. It’s a nearly perfect circle , quarter size and is cloudy looking. Any suggestions for how to remedy this or if it is in fact water causing the problem. Love your channel and it’s been great to see it grow. Thanks Kirby

    Kirby, superb respect for your videos and your contribution to making the bespoke process visible to a wider audience. But a couple of personal observations on the shoe "shine " or maintenance process. I find that the renovateur product (and I recognise the formula might have changed over the years) does have ingredients that tends to remove either dirts and excess waxes, so for me I would not use it on new shoes, and certainly would not use it as the "only product one would use". The clear nature of the product as well as the cleaning properties does mean that it will eventually leave a whiteish residue on the shoes if the only product used. Also, you mention that it does not penetrate the wax into the leather at 7.36 or so - but surely if you want the oils to nourish the leather this is what you want to happen - your analogy that the leather "drinks the stuff" seems opposite of the fact that it will not go past the wax - I imagine a little poetic license here!

    Hi mr Allison. Thank you for another great video. You made me look at snoes in a totally different way and now I’m hooked. Can I ask a question? Can one polish shoes too often? Is it possible that the leather gets clogged with cream and wax so it can’t breath and might even mould or rot?

    • @talavb9301
      @talavb9301 Před 2 měsíci +3

      Yes. Caking on conditioners and creams, at best it just does nothing, at worst you can start to damage the finish of your shoes in some cases (crust leather, etc.) depending on the product you use. And you're also just wasting time and money.
      If you want to give lots of attention to your shoes, the honestly best thing to do is to use rather little of the relevant products, but use them frequently, for instance every 5-10 wears.

  • @kacperoleszko4785

    Important question: if a shoe gets scuffed after doing all of this, you just repeat the process or should you remove the old finishes first?

    • @J.c410
      @J.c410 Před 2 měsíci

      If it's more of a slight mark than an actual dent you should be fine just applying wax again like you would for a quick maintenance. But every month or so if you wear them regularly you should use a cleaning / renovating lotion to wipe the show down and start the process again to renourish the leather. Waw is just the finiqhing protective coat that gets you to a mirror shine with water and patience.

      If you are doing a deep clean like once or twice a year. You remove the laces.
