WIDER 165 SUPERYACHT - A BEHIND THE SCENES TOUR

  • Last week I was invited to fit a promotional video of the amazing new WIDER 165. It was a very generous offer by the shipyard, since the period immediately following the launch of a yacht and it's appearance at a Boat Show is extremely busy.
    In this video you can join me as I drive down to Ancona and explain the complexities of delivering a yacht, and then take a tour behind the scenes. And yes...on this video you DO get to see the technical spaces and crew quarters.
    For more details about this yacht contact me at david.seal@northropandjohnson.com

It’s so rare to see where the crew is the crew mess the laundry room things like that. To see more of these actually would be quite enjoyable. Look forward to more from you.

    Your rational for not always filming the engine room and crew quarters makes absolute sense. But I like seeing them because if I was ever in the market for a yatch I would absolutely want to see the crew quarters to make sure it was not some sardine like cabin that was to cramped. I would have to start from scratch because I would want the people waiting on me hand and foot and guests to live in very comfortable accommodations. . I would want a happy crew ( not spoiled ) but well taken care of to ensure my yatch, myself and guests were always taken care of to the best of their abilities. Now reality I’m not ever going to own a yatch in this lifetime. 😂😂😂 But dream are good and some dreams do come true.

    Seeing a yacht, especially the highly anticipated 165, from the perspective of all the secret passageways of crew areas was awesome. We’re so accustomed to seeing only the main portions and conventional rooms/ hallways of a yacht, and being able to see the yacht in its fully entirety is fascinating. Thank you for doing this, especially with the 165, as many of us have been waiting quite some time for a video on the new Wider!

  • @checkboard

    I enjoy this style of video. :)
    I have seen a hundred vids of the guest areas. My technical bent wants to know the stuff which is never talked about. Does it have a water purifier? How much water can it make? How often do the membranes have to be replaced? How do they handle sewage? Is it treated, or just tanked and pumped ashore when docked? How good is the data connection? etc etc...

    • @tgb-nm8yd
      @tgb-nm8yd Před 6 lety +10

      There is a well established industry that builds these systems for the smallest sail boat to the largest super yacht. There are many suppliers to chose from and a yacht like this can produce hundreds of gallons of water in one hour. Filters need regular replacement, depending on quality of sea water. Gray/black water is generally dumped outside the 12 mile zone although in the US you can already do that after 3 miles. Super yachts usually disinfect their black water, small yachts just dump it. But don't worry, the ocean is large enough. Not all small yachts are as scrupulous as the big ones so never ever swim in a marina! Internet once you are out of range of land based wifi is extremely expensive, $ 50.000 a month for about the same quality as on land is quite normal. And that is just the for the owner! The owner will rarely be on board while crossing the Atlantic so not really an issue for him. eSysman, mega yacht crew member is the best source of information (apart from David of course ;) on super yachts and I advise you to check him out.

    Very interesting video, as usual. I have never been on a luxury yacht like this, and probably never will, but it amazes me how narrow those corridors are. I understand that the owner doesn't want to "waste" space on corridors and stains, even thosr that he/she is using, but i would argue that it increases comfort and the feeling of being somewhere special when you have space around you.

    This style of vloging is the essence of what youtube is, so don't be shy to do these 'specials' every now and then! Keep 'em coming! I have recommended your chanel for over a dozen people in Monaco at the yacht show, there is no broker like you these days. What you might get wrong is the fact that we who can and used to buy luxury goods are weirdos. I have never met a high net worth individual who was completly sane... ;) According to my observation most of us are not fascinated by the decor but the specialty's... for example 9 times out of 10 even woman wants to take a look at the engine room on my yacht. kind of wooman who never seen her own car's engine... :D The other aspect to this is that we live in an age when a fanboy who is daydreaming today can become a billionaire (and one of your customers) the next year so a little yacht porn can't hurt.

    Hello David love you videos, the reason i like to see the crew quarters is very simple, in my eyes 2 reasons, one is that if the crew have good accommodation im sure it makes a difference to there time on the boat, and two for instance i will guess more boats of 30-40 metre are sold than 100 metre boats, i watched a video of a Asimut 55s, and it showed that there was a double bed for the captain so that could be two crew members ie his wife/g/f. etc etc could be a stewardess, chef. or visa versa, and then that leaves i would guess a twin room for deck hands, so please could you show the crew cabin. Keep up the good work.

  • @alasdairmcbryde7573
    @alasdairmcbryde7573 Před 6 lety +1

    You are quite right in your thinking Dave.
    People buy on emotion and then logic things out later ... even technical people do it, although they won't admit it ... that's why good sales people talk very little and ask lot's of questions, so that they can match the features of the yachts to the benefits that the client is looking for ... called consultative selling.
    Very few yacht purchasers will say they want a yacht because of a technology reason ... it will be about lifestyle, family, trophy purchase/ego, a place to entertain family and friends, business meetings/entertaining, likes the sea, travelling, environmentally friendly etc.
    A great example I experienced was when I was looking at Lambo's. The salesman kept on talking about the specs of the car and opened the engine bay so I could look at the engine ... I was getting so bored.
    I said "Can the car go from 0-60 kms/hour in under 3 seconds?", which is an outcome or experiential based reason, not a technical reason like V10 or V12 and what the piston sequence of the engine is ... Lambo's have the piston sequence stamped on top of the engine so you can see it ... nice little touch, but who cares.
    He said "yes" and I said, "Good, I don't care how it manages to do that technically, I'm more interested in experiencing that acceleration and the sound that it makes while ripping its way from 0-60 kms/hr in less than 3 seconds". It's an emotional purchase.
    I will logic out the finances later, but in my mind I have already made the decision to buy. And, by the way in the luxury/trophy purchase industries very seldom is there any financial logic. Sure there may be tax write offs etc, but with few exceptions they will decrease in value.
    Emotion first, 'logic' second.

    I for one enjoyed this video. I understand the need for professional videos for your clients and potential clients. However, it is nice to see, for lack of a better word and no offence to anyone, reality. The lady cleaning the galley, the various people gathered and talking. Presumably about what's next. Also the supplies on the port deck including flowers waiting to be staged. To me, all very cool. This is what it really looks like. What really happens. Not what the wealthy see. They see the result, not the process to get there. Very interesting. And on a diesel electric boat with Pods. Nice. I would love to see a sea trial video with real running specs and results. Thank you.

    @ukandrew Před 5 lety

    Generally I would tend to agree with you when you state your reasons for not showing engine and ancillary areas on your principle video presentations. This I believe differs considerably to prospective owners and general viewers alike, when a yacht manufacturer has gone to great lengths and without doubt considerable expense to develop and implement exceptional advanced key operational systems such as in the case of the Wider 165 with its hybrid propulsion and power generation system. I believe you are correct when stating the fact that potential customers of such yachts initially fall in love with lines and beauty, I also believe that the todays customer is much more in tune with advanced power generation systems critical to operation of not only their yacht but also in life generally. Such yachts with advanced and proven systems are likely to hold more interest a few years down the line, a factor the owner of this type of yacht will I am sure be very aware of. It is good that you have addressed all the above in your behind the scenes presentation although it would of also been interesting to have seen the battery systems behind those doors but understandably Wider yachts may have not wanted this area of their technology broadcast to the world. Another fabulous presentation from you, especially considering it was off the cuff, and very pleased you chose to reveal the operational and very interesting side of this yacht. I look forward to your future presentations.

      @Yachts For Sale. It's a lovely video! I would also like to know about the water desalination capabilities. (There are generators that produce great amounts of electricity BY desalinating water, and I heard that the US Navy has switched it's ships to that method of power generation, meaning it can have an endless supply of purified water and endless transportation even if there were a major CME, resulting in worldwide lack of electricity to power fuel pumps, provided there are excellent mechanisms to protect onboard electronics in the event of a major CME (Coronal Mass Ejection). I Would also like to see the swimming pool area better, see inside all the crew quarters and bathrooms to know the crew will be happy as well as all the guests. I'd like to know how many state rooms there are, and see them and their in-suite bathrooms. Do all the showers have a place to sit inside? Are all the toilets combustion toilets? It would be great to have a yacht like that! Do you know of any with all that capability? You give a lovely show 'round. Quite enjoyable! Thank you!

    Absolutely love your approach and it has me coming back for more which is the aim, I'm sure. I am a technical guy as well so here is an idea....Do Both kinds of videos whenever possible. Your channel is the best by far. Keep up the great work and I will contact YOU when in the market!

    Behind the scenes is a great concept! I hope you continue to do this for shoots in the future. I was wondering what the biggest difference between a 155 and a 165 is? As an owner, would you truly notice the additional 10 feet?

    Just wondering how many owners let their crew have use all the yacht? It has been suggested or implied that it's because I am lonely? This video shows how little space your crew have to call home (if your staff work on 12 month contracts). I believe that the crew have a difficult job and it certainly isn't as glamours as perhaps people think and that looking after your staff can only make your ownership a far greater experience. Great video as always.

    Very nice video, Daivid. This behind the scenes gave a clear impression about the dimension of the 165. How many crew members is necessary to run the yacht, not considering cleaning and cooking staff?
