    I was pretty excited to get my new 940 pro last week. Then I started looking closer at it. The first thing I noticed was the forearm is so thin and flimsy that when you gently squeeze it, the plastic creaks and groans against the metal it rests against. Next, I was mounting a halosun on the receiver when I noticed the top of the rib and the top of the receiver are not in the same plane. Not even close. This is a $400 gun, not $1000.

    Longbeard is the way to go if shooting lead #5 or 6's pattern awesome in every one of my turkey guns.TSS is nice but if you are limiting your shots to 40/45 yards not really necessary worth the xtra cost. Picking # 9 shot out of a breast is basically micro surgery so do yourself a favor and stick with #7 TSS if money is no object.

      Don't get me wrong, I like tss but my shots are 40 yards or closer, and the winchester long beard xr with the carlson long beard choke lights out for me in my browning maxus 2. 27$ for 10 rounds of winchester compared to 65$ plus for 5 rounds of apex

      @BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA  Před 3 měsíci +1

      @jerryparkey4199 mine are 25 yards and under and I still will take tss all day as it yields me more leeway than any lead load will at that range
      well yes 3.5 inch tss is expensive and completely unnecessary when shooting tss especially at 40 and under but I completely understand we all have our ways and for anything that works for you!

      I understand that buddy, here in tn this past weekend was the tn juvenile hunt, I'm a guide for the tennessee wildlife federation, the kid I had killed a really nice gobbler at 16 yards, 20 gayge tss and it destroyed the bird, the bird didn't flop the first time, it was unreal

    • @billhuff131
      @billhuff131 Před 2 měsíci

      I start out with a federal tss #7 followed by longbeard #5s for planting shots if necessary. Anything smaller in tss like 9s on a flopping turkey is a sure bet to the dentist after a Thanksgiving meal and removing it is like micro surgery.

    Before I switched to Heavyshot 20 years ago. I tried all turkey loads, and chokes that I could find. Like kicks, Primos, Carlson, MAD, Hastings.
    Let me tell ya. I got Hastings in .650, .655, .660, .665 I tried them. If my gun didn't like it with any combo. I sold them to friends for half price. Most of the time it worked better in their gun.
    The biggest thing that I would have never thought. .650 in my 870 21" barrel loved Winchester HV 1 3/4 #4!😮 That's right the tightest choke loved that big copper 4 shot. It hammered it. Oddly. 660 the 5 and 6 did better.
    My Heavyshot 4x5x7 loves Sumtoy. 660 or Rhino.
    2025 I'll try TSS.

    I always shot the 3.5 inch #5’s, but the 20 gauge 2 3/4 inch TSS rocked another one yesterday. I misjudged it by about 10 or 15 yards, but 45 to 50 was just fine. I don’t think I’ll ever shoot a 12 gauge (or lead) again, but I am happy to see this test. Thanks.

    My setup is a Remington 870, carlsons LB .660 & LBXR #6. I've shot lead my entire 22 year's in the turkey wood's, they have never let me down I've let myself down by missin.
    The reason I won't make the switch is 1 for that reason, I have no reason to switch I get what I'm looking for out of what I've shot for year's. The other reason is okay yes $8 difference per shot, but let's be honest most tss is closer to $65 & above, then you have to find the right tss/choke combo that fits what you like. So you're already let's be conservative for just 1 combo $150 & you end up hating the results then back to the drawing board etc. You could be in the hole $500 to $600 or even more by the time you find the combo that works for you more than what most people's guns cost.
    Hey I'm not knocking anyone if that's the route you want to take, but I can't justify it over something that has never let me down if I do my job as the hunter/shooter.
    But even though I'm gonna die on my hill of shooting lead, I still watch the BCO boy's everyday & enjoy the hell out of it 👍🇺🇲 God bless Brother's & can't wait for the next one!

      @@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA I was shopping for 12 gauge 3" TSS loads today. Boxes of 5 - Apex 2.25 oz/$68, Apex 2 oz/$63, Boss/$65, Rogue/$65, Jebs/$65, Pendleton/$63, Hevi-18 Hevi-shot/$70, & Junk Federal/$77. This gentleman shoots a 12 gauge, & most boxes of 5 TSS are approximately $65/box. A box of 2.75" Herter's might be a bit cheaper at $50. If someone is shooting 12 gauge 3" Winchester Longbeards and they switch to 12 gauge 3" TSS, the price looks approximately $65/box of 5, plus shipping & tax in most cases. A guy could buy a new 28 gauge & shoot $50 Apex loads, but that wasn't his point. What I saw today did not support your 7 lifetime claim.

    I recently shot some long beard in my 12 & 20. The 12 ga 870 with a Carlsons long beard choke puts just over 210 hits in a 10” circle with 3.5” 2oz #5 it’s ridiculous for lead and ridiculous to shoot without a lead sled. It’s the hottest lead core I’ve ever seen at 40 yards. That being said it needs a red dot because there isn’t a ton of room for error.
    I ran into some big inconsistencies with the 20 gauge LBXR. I have no idea if I’m experiencing the “spring” effect you talk about but it was near 50 degrees and I am now getting about half the number of hits as I was last year with the same load, gun & choke . It went from 120ish to 52 in a 10” At 40 yards 🤷🏻‍♂️.

My buddy has an old maverick 88 that shoots a pattern of 6's that looks like an artist hand painted each hole equal distance all fitting uniformly in a 10 inch circle. It’s not 8$ tho. Some TSS are at or over 20/round. With led it averages 2-3$/round. And unless you’re shooting 50-70 yards it’s not a 18$/round difference.
    When I think of spending a dollar/round of 300 blk out or a dollar 556. It gives me hives. Imagine a 20$/round reaction. lol.
