"I am the one" kinda hits even more when it's front the living child's perspective rather than the husband's
I think the Cooper singing segments in this episode were actually quite good.
The actors playing Polly and Charles didn't do their own singing

Next to Normal was such a good choice for a musical episode because it fits the situation of the story so well and the coopers slayed every performance I just wish they actually did more of it.

This was my favorite musical episode because it was unlike the rest. Instead of making it a musical at the school they in a way sort of weaved the plot of the actual musical in with the storylines that were happening in the show and created their own little production of Next To Normal. It was awesome.
If only we got Alice singing the Diana Parts just imagining Alice snapping back at Betty with the “you don’t know” and “why don’t you just go” would have hit even harder when Alice says it’s Betty’s fault for Polly’s death :(

As someone who is scared of watching any Riverdale musical episode,,, I am not as traumatized as I think I would be and I kind of enjoyed it too?... HOWEVER Jughead's singing is... no... It ruined my fav songs :'(

Alice reminds me of what Chloe does in the game life is strange before the storm alice pretends Polly & Charles are alive because she’s grieving and Chloe dreams of her father and talks to him as if it’s real.

honestly this is the best musical episode
While I think this sounds *WAYYY* better than the usual riverdale musical output, they miss some of the beats in the music that just ruin the point of the song. There’s a point to the pattern of the melody that shows so much of the original musical but the riverdale version changes things up, like having a few lines not sung by one of the sides. (By this I mean betty singing as a cure and the dead siblings ((I think)) are like the illness that the cure is trying to fight.) and having the line altered renders many of the other lines that they *did* follow kinda pointless.
Also, could they not hit the last note in “I am what may be, I am mystery_”? Because it’s like that in the other lines 💀

Pobre Betty, realmente no fue así. Polly ya venía haciendo esto, se iba y regresaba a los 3 días, se drogaba. Incluso estaba con los diablos. Nada de eso fue culpa de Betty. Espero que en la temporada 6 expliquen porque Betty no había vuelto, que pasó cuando la secuestró el Basurero.
True it wasn’t most of her fault but it kinda was because when she came back after 7 years she started yelling at Polly for going out at night and Polly ran away left her kids behind and was on lonely highway and got killed and Betty was crying just like her mom was that time betty realized she screwed up and now the twins don’t have parents now but it’s ok because betty is the god mother to her kids because Polly told betty on season 1 episode 8 that if anything happen to her betty will take care of them because Polly trust betty to take care of them so Polly told betty to be a god mother of her twins and Betty said yes of course I do
@@karebird1770 The day that Betty confronted Polly saying that it was a lie that she was working where she said and that she was with the devils. At that time Polly was going out to "work" and instead of accepting that what Betty said was true, what she did was get upset and leave. Betty was worried about Polly since Alice was the one taking care of the twins. Betty always tried to help her and Polly knew that Betty only helped and that's why when she was kidnapped she called Betty and asked for her help. But it was too late 🥺

@@anaismoreno8622 Betty have been through a lot learning about her dad being the black hood and getting kidnapped by Edgar and get send away to the sisters of quiet mercy and learning about that polly was pregnant and a lot more . Betty needs a break. Polly’s death is not her fault. There’s a lot of bad people in river dale polly should had listened to Betty or did polly forgot what happened to river dale during the riot in season 2 or the murders in season 3 what had polly been doing over the years

I know I’m being cynical but apart of me thinks apart of this song is Alice also letting go of her delusions of wanting the perfect family.
For context her daughter got knocked up by her cousin (that even they didn’t know at the time) and planned to run away, her husband turned out to be a serial killer, her and said daughter fell for a cult, again the same daughter became a hooker and ended up dead .
The son she turned away made something of himself without her. And even then he was a psycho.
And now she’s blaming the daughter she said was her favorite for her sister dying with a back handed feeling of her not doing what she was told.
So yeah, (for me anyway) it just says she’s coming to grips with the fact she didn’t have she perfect family.
I feel like when Alice said Pollyanna is dead because of you at that point I was about jump through my TV and spit all the facts about why it should be Alice's fault that her daughter is daed

Alice isn't entirely wrong to blame Betty for Polly's death. Sure Betty never meant for Polly to wander off on the Lonely Highway, but she still should have been gentler with her sister when she confronted her about her dealings with the Ghoulies and not push her away. Not that Polly had the right to do that anyway
