  • Hello Socratica Friends! We've built you a Study Tips Website! If you want to create your own website, go to: www.wix.com/go/socratica
    We often suggest you go to your instructor’s Office Hours. It’s like free, expert tutoring. But do you know how to actually use this valuable resource? There’s more to it than just showing up.
    First, you need to do some preparation. Don’t go in to office hours empty handed. You should bring in very specific questions that your professor or TA can help you with.
    We recommend you use the CORSON technique. This is a simple but very effective study method, introduced by Physics professor and Cornell president Dale Corson.
    The key to the Corson Technique is to carefully identify where your understanding breaks down. This usually means going very SLOWLY through the reading or equations, step by step, until you find where you really get stuck. Document this! Make a note of everything you’ve tried, and bring these notes with you to office hours. This will help your instructor help you. Effective learning is a team effort. Make sure you are doing your part.

    This channel is really good. It is sad to see that you're not making more videos on the Socratica Español channel :-( I would love to see Socratica for Kids in Spanish, so my little daughters could learn from your educational videos. Anyways I wish success for all your channels and your team. I wish that the hard work you put in these videos pays off.

    We were inspired to write this episode from an article on First Generation College students - many of which did not know about Office Hours or how to make the best use of them. Do your instructors offer office hours? Do you see people using them effectively?

    • @Socratica
      @Socratica  Před 5 lety +2

      We're glad you wrote in, Tek. This is a hard situation to be in - the sad truth is, some professors are just not doing a good job. Most are, but there is a small percentage of them that really don't want to bother with teaching. When that happens, it helps if the students band together and support each other. Find outside help. Pool your resources and consider hiring a tutor (sharing the expenses). Don't give up!

      @@Socratica In my country they make it harder and fail you so the college can get more money it's like a gang of professors wanting students to fail so they can get more money. Also, another kind of professors doesn't want people to succeed because they don't want them to be future professors and get an education. It's just a reality in my country.
