This game is amazing on so many levels. Most games have either crappy,cliche dialogues or crappy gameplay,many times they have both crappy,cliche dialogues and crappy gameplay. But this game,it had really intense and awesome atmosphere,like 4:34 "I am your creation Kain...Now,as before,you criticise your own work". Examples like this,are what make me want to hear this game's dialogues every once in a while...even after 10 years from the game's launch. This game deserves a HD remake.
The one thing I don't like about Soul Reaver is the fact that its easy to get lost but it makes up through the storyline and the gore of every experience
Not to mention some of the best voice acting you'll ever hear, and the fact that it increases ten fold in soul reaver 2. It rivals metal gear solid caliber voice acting. I'd ever say it's a miniscule amount better than MGS's.
I absolutely loved this game. I even still have it and the walkthrough book...which i never used lol. I loved the story line that most games I have played today just don't have. I mean I played RAGE and it ended quickly while this game took me DAYS to beat!

So I've started playing this on the PC (bought it off GOG) and I've passed this fight with Kain, but I had a heck of a problem. I would get caught by his blast and sent to the spectral realm pretty quickly. This then makes it really difficult to get another one in when I materialize back as his spell goes off just as I get to him. Is there a trick to getting the hits in without getting hit yourself? You seem to make it seem like child's play. XD
hi, yeah, it's subjective but there are universal patterns such as the quality of the storyline, the gameplay, the puzzles, etc...in soul reaver all these aspects are really detailed and well-developed. of course, there are many other games I haven't had the chance to play but I do recognize the greatness of other sagas too. however, I talk about the focus on the general quality of a game and not the focus just on the graphics.
I'd rather play old school games more. I mean, look at what happened to the Resident Evil series. Sure, 4 and 5 weren't that bad, but they killed the "thriller" part of the game when they made the game focus more on action than survival. At least, the Soul Reaver/Legacy of Kain games are still staying true to its roots. Good times, goooooood times. :')
@DonKain that's why video games quality has decreased so much... there is the amazing technology we dreamed of before but they lack the creativity and ideas... I think soul reaver doesn't need an upgrade on its graphics, I really enjoy them. this kind of game shows you that a GREAT game is not based on graphics... and still, these graphics are very good.
@DonKain Thanks mate, and another question, you passed the game right? can you tell me how to make the constrict ability and what it does (I play this on PS1)
Because I wanted to replay the game quickly in preparation for Soul Reaver 2 (which I haven't played before), I once used the Soul Reaver cheat early in the game... now I can't defeat Kain! There is no way to undo cheats it seems, so I will just live with watching the walkthrough. If only I knew this earlier. :(
@igor960000 When will you kids understand that games aren't only about eye-candy graphics? Graphics don't make up deep, immersive storyline this game has, and most of flashy games today lack.

@Juliansnake1000 You run around specific object, usually a switch, and constrict turns it. It can also stun enemies if you can pull it off.

It's the PC version. Which essentially was the same as PS1.
