- How to Remove an Xbox 360 Slim HDD Without the Tag & Prevention
If the tag/tab has ripped off of your xbox 360 slim hdd (hard disk drive) and it's stuck in the 360, and you want to remove it, this is the video for you. If you still have your tag, watch this video and perform the fix to prevent this problem from ever happening to you.
The problem: The Xbox 360 slim's hard drive is already a bitch to get in and out due to the clamp/locking mechanism. The useless, thin tag/tab they give you will eventually rip off, sooner or later (probably soon haha).
The fix: Watch the vid. If your tag has ripped off and the hard drive is stuck in the 360, use a pair of pliers and some muscle to get it out. The fix and prevention is to saw off and sand down the jutting solid piece that is part of the spring loaded locking mechanism on the hard drive.

This helped me in what to do with my tag as it got broken off the hard drive today but how'd u trim back the little groove lock thing ? as that is what i'm worried about .

Hey Xeno, Do you mean that even if the plastic clip is in place and holding the hard drive in position that you can still force it out with pliers. My tab came off, will it do any damage to just force it out? Cheers
+royothebuzz Yes, even if the plastic clip is holding the hard drive in place, you can force it out with pliers, which is what I did. Make sure to file down/cut off the plastic clip after you get the hard drive out. Any damage that happens will just be where the pliers make contact, but it's purely cosmetic. The section where I used the pliers to grip and pull it out is a little chewed up but that's about it; all my memory and saved games are still safe.

@chaserdoodle1 I can't think of any other way except for 1. Pulling on the tag as hard as you can [and risk ripping it off!] or 2. Going with pliers, as I did. Using tools as I did should be a last resort. Best to just leave it in there unless you really need to get it out.

use tweezers, a flashlight, and move it around gently. The hard drive slot isn't very big so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
this might sound stupid but Can you Do This With The Hard Drive Reversed to the Chip Facing Up? Don't Ask me How its like that -_-
Once removed put some tape on it and make a make shift tack so you can remove it

@aldo36000 I got my 360 used. What does it say in the manual bro? I posted the vid because I couldn't find anything on the internet about removing the damn thing without the tab.
It took a herculean effort to move mine out an inch, had to use pliers in the end. There must have been a better way of designing this.

Tweezers will not damage the xbox. All damange, if any, will only be done to the external portion of the hard drive and will not interfere with the hard drive or the xbox's ability to function.
My tab is connected to the hard drive but I can't get the hard drive out what do I do ?
I needed this because I dropped my remote on my disk tray and luckly I have another xbox that doesn't have a harddrive

I literally took a knife and sawed it off. That plastic triangle sticking out, that whole thing. As I said, these are just external plastic parts. Cutting them off has absolutely no effect on your hard drive's capabilities or internals. So get brutal with it lol, just don't accidentally saw into or through the hard drive...keep your blade flat haha
Anybody that didn't think of that if it were an option is an idiot! If there's something to grab ahold of that should have been the first thought. If it actually broke off there won't be anything to grab ahold of.
Thanks for the advice... but i warn anyone wanting to do this as a quick fix... ITS HARD AS SHIT TO GET OUT.... both me and my partner spent half an hour struggling with this peice of shit lol.... hard drive is now getting better use in a playstation 3 thank god
the "hulk" couldnt use one of his arms to hold the 360 in place and the other to use pliers to remove mine, I do a lot of physical labor too this shit is not going to budge, god this generation of gaming has been so fuct
@kokoiamthewarlrus how the hell did you get only half a hardive lol. Half of the hard drive means it's junk now, doesn't work. I don't know what tools to use or what to do in that situation. It's better to leave it the way it is to prevent putting tools that far deep into the xbox and screw things up. A cheap fix is to buy a USB drive and use that as your hard drive from now on. Just plug it in and you're good to go.

The ghetto method I described in the video was the only way I could get mine out honestly. After the tag ripped out there was no way to hold onto the hard drive other than pliers.
