      @tyvek05 yeah I guess for the past 40+ years the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on helicopters were just for kicks

    • @9753flyer
      @9753flyer Před 4 lety +43

      @tyvek05 1000 gallons is enough to keep roads cleared for evacuations and to hit hot spots before they flare into full blown blazes.
      AirCal still has their multi-1000 gallon large tankers as well.
      Fighting fires is not an all or nothing or all 1 attack task... just like in anything, specialized tools are critical to turning corners and supplementing the large sledge hammers that are the larger tankers that cannot do precision drops or rapid deployments.
      BTW - how many fires have you fought again?? Also the Hueys in most cases had less than a thousand gallons and were still effective.

      tyvek05 as he said what if a firefighter falls through a burning roof of a house? A helicopters can quickly drop water on that house and save his life

    • @redboylegend1262
      @redboylegend1262 Před 4 lety +8

      tyvek05 it actually can. These fire hawks are replacing the current hueys that carry firefighters that’s called helitack. On the hueys, pilot has to drop off crew in a safe place then hook up the bucket that only carrys 250-300 gallons. These are carrying 1,000 gallons already that can make a drop and then drop off the crew on that spot. Helitack is crucial in early intial attack when the fire is 10 to a few hundred acres. These could save fires from reaching into the thousands or hundred thousands of acres.

    • @Rooksaho
      @Rooksaho Před 4 lety +11

      tyvek05 as a pilot for cal fire, you are absolutely wrong, 1000gal is more than you can understand, especially as we have 12 hawks and almost 80 other helis

      Vapor in fire is perfect, humidity kills fires. The more humidity the better the chances, when water is dropped in high quantities you get both large molecules and the vapor. Water wets but vapor kills oxygen
